Grasshoppers Day Nursery is a service in St Albans that is dedicated to the highest standards of care for babies and toddlers, and prides itself on the warm and welcoming atmosphere. They have also obtained their Green flag for Eco-Schools.

Grasshoppers has excellent play areas and secluded gardens, together with a great range of resources to suit all age ranges, the nursery provides a happy, social environment where every child is treated as an individual. Children’s days are packed full of activities designed in line with EYFS principles and implemented by highly trained and knowledgeable staff.

Open from 7.30am to 6.30pm, Grasshoppers offers an all-inclusive package to maximise the convenience to parents, which includes formula milk, nappies, nappy cream, baby wipes, sun cream, and well-balanced meals throughout the day. Grasshoppers provide visits in the local community, visitors to the nursery such as African dance workshops and sporting sessions and cooking experiences for the children to take part in, self-service to promote independence and regular updates on their online learning journey platform to keep parents included in their development.

Grasshoppers Day Nursery also currently offer the extracurricular activity of Yoga Mites on a Wednesday between 2:30pm and 3pm for their Preschool room.

Our daughter has attended Grasshoppers Day Nursery since September 2022, beginning in Caterpillars before moving up to Bumblebees, and she absolutely loves it. It’s great to see her going in with a smile on her face in the morning, and seeing her so happy and settled when collecting her at the end of
the day. The facilities for the children are brilliant, including lots of opportunities to spend time outdoors in the garden which we know our daughter really enjoys. We have been very impressed with all aspects of the nursery’s care and communication, it’s great to get regular updates via the app and e-newsletter. The team always take the time to tell us about our daughter’s day and answer any questions we may have. Parents are kept informed about the week’s learning activities and given the chance to get involved with them from home. One of the most important things about the nursery, for us, is the very caring and loving atmosphere that the staff have created for the children.

Our daughter has been attending the Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans) since November 2022 and our experience has been extremely positive. Settling was made easy thanks to the amazing, caring staff in the Bumblebees room and I cannot thank them enough. They took the time to learn about my child’s
preferences, routines and even some words in Portuguese (our second language) to better understand and communicate with her. They go above and beyond every day and as parents, we feel we couldn’t have chosen a better nursery for our child. The facilities are spacious, clean, bright and well-maintained. The space outside is huge and there are loads of activities. The curriculum is well-designed, creative, age-appropriate and stimulating - I love seeing the pictures of my daughter playing and learning in the app. Also, the staff is always available to answer my questions and keep me informed about my child’s progress and new learnings. I highly recommend the St Albans Grasshoppers Nursery to any parents.

Cannot speak highly enough of the St. Albans Grasshoppers team. Our daughter transferred from playschool around five months ago and we were admittedly nervous that she would be unsettled, but the staff at playschool have made the transition so easy and she's very quickly developed loving relationships
with all of them.
We're grateful to all of the staff and, in particular, those who look after our daughter daily in the bumblebees room. They're fantastic and she always has a lot (for a two-year-old) to say about all of them in the evenings.

I have a child who is two years and nine months, she is in the preschool room, and the staff are all welcoming in the morning, and I know she will be happy when leaving her, even if she gets upset as I leave, they will contact me to let me know that she has calmed down. She is always happy at the end
of the day when I pick her up and will tell me about the things that she had done.

All 3 of our children have now attended Grasshoppers; while one recently graduated from pre-school to join her sister at school, the last one has started in the baby room. Each of them has thrived in this setting. Close friendships have been made; they've loved attending; in particular, the renovated
garden has been a big hit. Over the years, staff have been very accommodating with our needs and we highly recommend them. You're always greeted with a smile, the team are caring and friendly, plus, there are significantly clear structures/policies in place including their communications with parents.

I highly, highly recommend Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans). They were very supportive for the two years that my daughter was there. She absolutely loved it and made some amazing friends there. We were always happy about her nutrition, despite having allergies, and always felt like she was supported
by the staff. Her key worker I couldn't praise more, she really helped my daughter feel at home and was very warm and friendly. We were sorry to say goodbye to all the staff when she moved on to reception. We started in another nursery and made the difficult decision to move her because we weren't happy. So we have seen both sides and were glad to have found grasshoppers.

Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans) is a wonderful nursery. My son really enjoyed going here and loved pre-school. The team are always friendly and approachable and always happy to help with questions and let us know about new developments and activities our son has been taking part in. The food is

My daughter has been at the nursery for six months and absolutely loves it. She's developed so much and look forward to her continuing to do so. My son has been attending Grasshoppers for the past month and to see him build a strong relationship with his key workers is so heartwarming. He has in a short time grown in confidence, started to become independent and his speech is developing in the right direction, all of which I credit the nursery
for. The staff at the nursery are, professional, responsive, great sense of humour, friendly, warm, kind and patient. Always have a warm smile to greet you in the morning! I look forward to seeing my son develop in their care. I would highly recommend Grasshoppers.

The nursery has been excellent throughout the time our children have attended.
The management and staff are all brilliant; engaged and invested in the individual characters of the children and celebrate their individuality. There has also been a lot of continuity in management and staff.
Communication
has always been very good and our children come home every day having had a great time! We (as parents) have been well supported by Grasshoppers Day Nursery who have been flexible with childcare when needed and have also taken time to discuss or observe and feedback on the odd language or behavioural concern we’ve had.
Overall can’t thank Grasshoppers enough for everything they’ve done for us and our children

We loved sending our daughter to Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans). The staff are all so wonderful and we loved the great variety of activities they do with the children everyday. We are a same sex couple and we were always treated the same as other parents and even got two Mothers days gifts for
Mothers day which we thought was a really nice touch. We also found the nursery to be very understanding and supportive during the lockdowns and accommodating to us, I kept having to shield and therefore had to keep pulling our daughter out of nursery and they staff were very supportive of this. We left the nursery with a very heavy heart due to moving to a different area but we couldn't be happier with the nursery and the love and care they gave to our child.

Our child attended Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans) for two and half years and we think this had a very positive impact to his growing up. The facilities have recently been renovated with brand new learning equipment installed, while the size of outdoor space was good. We also noticed that all members
of staff were knowledgeable, skilled, patient, kind and helpful. The school was really organised and this was very much proven by the way they handled Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown's. We were really happy that our child always found time at school interesting besides the very long hours, with members of staff able to fill the daily routine with plenty of activities such as role playing, yoga, music and mandarin language lessons that contributed to his learning skills.

We've been incredibly happy with Grasshoppers since our daughter has been going. The staff are warm and friendly and I feel they take very good care of her. She learns so much and I am always impressed with how much the nursery does for charity and how engaged I feel as a parent with my child's care
there. I can't recommend them enough.

My son has had a wonderful experience settling in with the Caterpillars team at Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans). The staff have made every effort to make my husband, my son and me welcome in the nursery community. The practitioners have gone above and beyond to reassure me that my son has settled
into the nursery routine. From photos and stories during the pandemic, when we cannot go in the nursery and see him playing and whilst face coverings make it more difficult to recognise faces, the practitioners are always smiling and happily recognise me at pick up! I receive updates via the app and verbally every day without fail, to tell me about my son's day, what he's eaten, like a king and how he has slept. I know his future at the nursery is a bright and happy one, supported by an excellent curriculum!

Claire is the Manager of Grasshoppers Day Nursery in St Albans and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the Early Years sector for 22 years. Claire has numerous qualifications, including an NNEB Level 3 & Level 5 in Leadership, and Early Years Management.


What is your favourite feature of Grasshoppers?
The nursery has a very welcoming homely feel, and the rooms have been designed and furnished to meet the children's developmental needs. We have a large preschool room and lovely garden areas.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
I am really impressed with the team's partnership with parents and the relationships they form with them.
