Grasshoppers Day Nursery is a service in St Albans that is dedicated to the highest standards of care for babies and toddlers, and prides itself on the warm and welcoming atmosphere. They have also obtained their Green flag for Eco-Schools.

Grasshoppers has excellent play areas and secluded gardens, together with a great range of resources to suit all age ranges, the nursery provides a happy, social environment where every child is treated as an individual. Children’s days are packed full of activities designed in line with EYFS principles and implemented by highly trained and knowledgeable staff.

Open from 7.30am to 6.30pm, Grasshoppers offers an all-inclusive package to maximise the convenience to parents, which includes formula milk, nappies, nappy cream, baby wipes, sun cream, and well-balanced meals throughout the day. Grasshoppers provide visits in the local community, visitors to the nursery such as African dance workshops and sporting sessions and cooking experiences for the children to take part in, self-service to promote independence and regular updates on their online learning journey platform to keep parents included in their development.

Grasshoppers Day Nursery also currently offer the extracurricular activity of Yoga Mites on a Wednesday between 2:30pm and 3pm for their Preschool room.

Grasshoppers is a superb nursery at every level. The staff are consistently excellent - I have two sons in the nursery in different rooms and both teams are excellent. From an administration and management perspective, they are also excellent and put the children and parents at the forefront of all
they do. My eldest son has attended four nurseries, two very briefly, and Grasshoppers has been the best for so many reasons. Both my sons are confident, cared for, loved, educated, curious, adventurous and happy each and every day. The setting and facilities are also excellent both inside and outside. I'd be happy to recommend Grasshoppers to anyone.

My son has recently joined the nursery and this is our first experience. I have been extremely impressed by how welcoming and supportive staff have all been, which has helped settle him in so well and put my mind at ease.
When leaving my son for the first time, I was encouraged to call as often as
needed in this first few weeks and never felt like I was fussing. Staff all have a genuine interest and show enthusiasm supporting his development. Regular updates and pictures on the portal evidence this. My only suggestion for improvement would be the construction of a bigger pram store area (fire exit sometimes blocked). However, overall an excellent experience.

Overall, we have had a very positive experience at Grasshoppers. All the staff are friendly and competent. Both my children enjoy their time there.
The baby rooms have very limited capacity and tend to fill up with siblings. Therefore, there is little flexibility if you need to change days.
The key
workers strive to complete an observation each week but sometimes, only manage once a month. Although if that happens, they usually do several. Handovers at the end of the day are done well, even though it's a busy time.

Lovely nursery - my daughter loves it here. So many activities - from music and football to science and arty things. She has tonnes to do.
We're amazed by her progress in language and trying new things and confidence.
Lovely friendly staff and my daughter has really great connections and friendships

I'm happy with the level of care my daughter receives and she seems happy at Grasshoppers Day Nursery. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
I think the building could do with some slight refurbishment particularly flooring could be replaced with a cleaner carpet.
The food is very good.

Great experience, really helpful staff. Homely atmosphere. The staff always make an effort to say good morning to all the children who enter, they are always smiley and happy and nothing is ever too much of a problem. They seem to really care for the children.

Wide variety of toys, resources and learning materials that are stimulating in terms of sensory and intellectual. Good variety of meals - made blended suitably for my baby. Very caring, welcoming staff - always make me and my baby feel welcomed. Very attentive staff. Clean facility and hygienic practices
in place. Overall very happy with this nursery.

My daughter started nursery at 6 months old at Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans). This was very hard for me as I was nervous, she was so young. The team were simply fantastic at reassuring her and us as parents. My daughter absolutely loves coming here - she giggles and plays with the other children
and adores her key worker. Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans) has the ultimate 'homely' feel - The management ensures that everything runs smoothly and I have confidence that my daughter could not be in better/safer hands.

My son settled very quickly and gets on well with his key person. The staff are lovely and everyone knows his name. It feels very much like an extension of our family. We are very happy with his progress at the nursery and would highly recommend the nursery to anyone who wants to join. The admin staff
also make the registration and joining process very smooth and try to be accommodating as possible.

I had my first son started here in the pre-school room. We had a good experience. Staff were good and caring. Now he is in Oakwood School and I got my 2nd son in the nursery. It is difficult to assess as he has been poorly so many days and didn't attend the nursery regularly. But the staff are very

Grasshoppers is a fantastic nursery, my daughter has been attending for 2 months now and she has settled so well. She has built a strong relationship with the staff who look after her and she is full of smiles for them all when she arrives each day. I love the fact that all the staff know her even if
they don't work in the same room and it makes me feel relaxed at work knowing she is having such a good time. The nursery has a real home from home feel and I really value the staffs knowledge and the care they take with the children.

I am pleased that my baby is developing well at the nursery. I have found that the staff are very knowledgeable about the child's development and actually guide and help me ensure that milestones are reached and how to support/help the baby achieve them. This nursery has surpassed my expectations and
my baby has established very strong bonds with the staff which makes it easier for me to work knowing she is well looked after.

Our two children went to Grasshoppers, starting in August 2010, the younger of the two having just 'graduated' preschool recently. We appreciated the caring staff, particularly those who had been there for so long and always felt assured we were leaving our children in a safe and loving environment.

Claire is the Manager of Grasshoppers Day Nursery in St Albans and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the Early Years sector for 22 years. Claire has numerous qualifications, including an NNEB Level 3 & Level 5 in Leadership, and Early Years Management.


What is your favourite feature of Grasshoppers?
The nursery has a very welcoming homely feel, and the rooms have been designed and furnished to meet the children's developmental needs. We have a large preschool room and lovely garden areas.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
I am really impressed with the team's partnership with parents and the relationships they form with them.
