Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool (Formerly Shortlands Little Stars)

Shortlands day nursery is a beautiful converted church which boasts some of the original features, high ceilings and generous space in the rooms. The nursery has four rooms which include a baby, toddler, nursery class and Preschool room and they are lucky to have separate gardens for the under twos and over twos. They are a two minute walk from Shortlands station which has excellent links into London and a short drive into the centre of Bromley.

The nursery offers a high standard of childcare and education and provides a happy and secure atmosphere for children aged three months to five years.

An enthusiastic team of professional staff are dedicated to providing the children with the very best opportunities and are committed to the development of each child.

The children also benefit from bespoke Growing Programmes including: Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians. Healthy meals and snacks are prepared on-site by the talented chef.

My daughter has attended Shortlands since she was 8 months old. In the past 2 years, there has not been a day when she does not have a smile on her face. She has bonded with all of the reassuring attentive staff and has developed a special attachment to her current keyworker. She loves playing in the
garden, sandpit loves showing us her new dancing/singing skills she is proud of her arts and crafts, hand painting. Most of all she loves sitting and chatting with her little friends “on the pink potties ‘. As much as we are able to play with her at home, this is not comparable to the structure, social skills, daily life skills, good manners and ‘group working’ skills that she has already gained from attending such a skilled Nursery.
During this challenging year, the keyworkers have remained dedicated, resilient, and have never been too busy for an informative daily handover. Great Job to the entire Team! Thank you for your support, warmth and positivity. We appreciate it more than you know!

We have been using the nursery for more than 6 years already. Our daughter used it before going to school and our son has started in the baby room now getting ready for school with all the preschool routine. We love the staff who have been our education partner through this entire journey even during
covid.
The setting and activities are suitable and make the kids entertained. Both our children enjoyed going there and this is priceless to our family! Thank you for all your support.

Our son was moved here as a 'Hub' nursery during the 1st lockdown. He loved it so much that we moved him there permanently. We had one issue with another child consistently upsetting our son but this was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the team. The team have been kind, welcoming and supportive
and have nurtured our son. He has come on leaps and bounds and has made great social connections. The team communicate his learning needs and process well and we feel confident leaving him in their care knowing he is happy and settled. Also, the staff have been amazing in accommodating changes to his set days where they have capacity which has allowed us to work and support the NHS during the pandemic. Thanks.

My son is going to Bright Horizons from his birth fulltime and we are very happy with his nursery in a short space of time. Good space, nice staff, clean area. My son is so happy to go there every day.

Overall I am extremely happy with Bright Horizons the staff are great as well as the management. My daughter settled quickly and extremely happy with the activities and gets along with the staff. The care they have given along with looking after the children are excellent.

We only occasionally collect our granddaughter from nursery but whenever we do, every member of staff is very friendly, helpful and full of information about our granddaughter’s day. It’s clear that she always has a great time at the nursery.

My daughter has just finished pre-school and has been well set up to start reception by the staff at pre-school. The program of preparation sessions worked really well. She has formed good friendships with the other children and has been well cared for by the staff, especially during the lockdown when
there were staff and children changing locations due to the 'hub' that was created to look after key worker children.

Since my little girl started at Shortlands Bright Horizons, she loved it. The staff are amazing with the children and helped me as a parent when my daughter was settling. I have seen over the two years that my daughter has attended the nursery, her personality developed and her confidence grew. Nothing
is too much trouble with the staff and I found my daughter's key workers kind and caring towards her. I cannot rate the nursery highly enough.

It's a great nursery with amazing and attentive people working there. It has lots of space, a nice garden for kids to run around, plenty of interesting toys, and many planned activities. Everyone who works there clearly loves kids and lavishes them with attention but also encourages them to develop
their skills and explore the world. My kid really enjoyed it there, I loved it there and felt very supported as a new parent, and I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.

I am very satisfied with the nursery staff and my sons behaviour is improving, every day he is learning new rules to respect, he enjoys the premises, he has got his new friends and talks to me regularly about his teachers. I love the fact that I have been able to rely on the nursery staff since his

Both my daughters have been through this nursery from baby room to preschool, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The staff retention is excellent which I think says a lot. Staff are experienced, extremely caring, and go out of their way for the children and parents. The staff have good relationships
with one another, which creates a relaxed and happy atmosphere. There is a great mix of fun, stimulating activities in a bright and clean environment. The garden areas are small but they make good use of the space and spend a lot of time outdoors. They make a big effort to introduce the children to a wide range of healthy food. Really I have nothing negative to say, it's a lovely place and I will miss it very much when my little one leaves.

We have been very pleased with the recent improvements made in the staffing of the nursery. This has been reflected in the general atmosphere and in the progress in our son's development and his engagement.

As a step parent it is sometimes scary taking your step child into an environment where you may feel judged, the staff at Shortlands have been so welcoming of our family and our circumstances - I couldn't praise them more.
We had a rocky start with settling due to my child being very clingy, but the
staff were considerate of both mine and my child's feelings at this time.
The nursery is clean, bright and welcoming and all staff are happy which helps the children to settle quickly.
I have and will continue to share the experience I have at Shortlands.

Both my children have been to this nursery and thoroughly enjoyed their time.
Bright Horizons high standards and the lovely people that work there have made my return to work after maternity a painless experience.
There is also a low staff turn-over which is usually sign of a good management.
I
have really enjoyed the people working here. The nursery is located next to the train station and opens long hours.

Helen

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Helen has been working with Bright Horizons for over 15 years, starting as a Nursery Nurse in Shortlands and progressing to Deputy Manager. In 2016, she moved to Caterham to gain experience in a larger nursery before returning to Shortlands as Nursery Manager in January 2018.


Holding a degree in Early Childhood Studies, she has gained valuable insight into child development. Her experience includes working in a nursery in Australia and she continues to refresh her knowledge and expertise in early years education.


Her passion has always been to guide each child in reaching their full potential. She feels privileged to make a meaningful impact on children's lives during this crucial stage of development.

Jodi

Jodi

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Jodi has been working in the childcare field for over 18 years, with eleven of those years at Bright Horizons Shortlands. She began as an apprentice and worked her way up to Room Leader, Third in Charge and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2018.


She feels incredibly fortunate in her role, as it allows her to support the development of children, the team, and the learning environments. She especially enjoys watching children grow and progress through each room until they graduate to their reception classes at school.

Jennes and Sam

Job Title: Chef

At the very heart of Shortlands Day Nursery is our two wonderful chefs, Jennes and Sam.


They have over 50 years kitchen experience combined. Together Jennes and Sam have continuously achieved 5 stars EHO inspections and have provided the children with delicious, nutritious meals. They have also supported the children with growing our own produce to cook and have facilitated creative cook sessions.


Jennes favourite meal to cook is different pasta dishes and at home is fried chicken and rice. Sam's favourite meal to cook are a roast dinner and chicken curry.
