My daughter did really enjoy going to nursery every morning. She made good friends and really had a great time. She was always very happy to see her carer and the rest of the team at the nursery. Our eldest also spent time at this nursery and as a family, we could not be more grateful to the team.
Really excellent feedback when collecting and the facilities are great. Our child has had s wonderful time here and has developed really well.
Our son has been with Bright Horizons, Shortlands for a year and a half, in the preschool room. We couldn't be happier with the care! He is always excited to go and skips in without looking back. His days are filled with art, learning and time in the garden (which has just been redone)! With the help of the team who manages his room, he has grown into a happy, kind, inquisitive little boy - ready to go to school this September! They have been great getting him ready for this transition with packed lunch and PE days!
My child has been at the nursery for over a year and has made good progress. The staff are caring, but one or two are particularly vague at pick-up times, when I ask how my child has been during the day/activities they have been doing. Compared with friends who have children at other nurseries, the updates from Bright Horizons, Shortlands, are somewhat lacking. They have an app, but photos are rarely posted. There are no insightful comments about my child's development (either on the app or in person) and I do not think the app is utilised as well as it could be. The meals, they are served, are generally good and healthy-sounding. But there are more occasions than I would like when my child eats crackers and spread for dinner and returns home, ravenous. Lots of outside playtime, which is excellent. My child appears to be making adequate progress, although I am told by him that they do watch TV at nursery, which is not really what I pay for!
My son has been going to nursery for the last two years, and he has developed so much under their care. The staff are lovely and very helpful. They have also launched an app recently, using which parents can view the child's activities throughout the day, which is really great.
My child has been attending Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool for over two years, and I am really happy with the care that they have provided. He has grown and developed so much. The staff are all amazing at what they do. He’s bonded really well with all his key workers. He loves to be mostly in the garden and when I pick him up he always has a smile on his face. He loves to tell me about his day, which is lovely to hear. Also, the staff have had to take on a lot more during Covid-19 and they have done amazingly.
My niece has been attending Shortlands for nearly a year now and I and her family are very happy with her progress. We have no worries about sending the little one in due to covid as we know all measures and policies are being met. The staff in her room are amazing at what they do and always give us great feedback and photos of her day. When I collect my niece which is fortnightly, staff still always take the correct measures to make sure my niece is able to leave with me and given permission from her parents. I can’t wait to be able to bring my child here.
My daughter attended Shortlands from the age of 1 and started Reception this year. She has been home-schooling since January and in observing her classes I have remarked that her level of numeracy, literacy and social engagement is in advance of her peers, something her teacher has confirmed. I know such strong groundwork was laid by the nursery and the staff, who worked so hard to engage and instruct the children. I knew at the time that she was having a ball, it's gratifying to see that the effects of a good nursery have greater positive reach into her future. Ever thankful for her early year's experience in this fantastic setting.
During this challenging year, the keyworkers have remained dedicated, resilient, and have never been too busy for an informative daily handover. Great Job to the entire Team! Thank you for your support, warmth and positivity. We appreciate it more than you know!
The setting and activities are suitable and make the kids entertained. Both our children enjoyed going there and this is priceless to our family! Thank you for all your support.
Our son was moved here as a 'Hub' nursery during the 1st lockdown. He loved it so much that we moved him there permanently. We had one issue with another child consistently upsetting our son but this was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the team. The team have been kind, welcoming and supportive and have nurtured our son. He has come on leaps and bounds and has made great social connections. The team communicate his learning needs and process well and we feel confident leaving him in their care knowing he is happy and settled. Also, the staff have been amazing in accommodating changes to his set days where they have capacity which has allowed us to work and support the NHS during the pandemic. Thanks.
My son is going to Bright Horizons from his birth fulltime and we are very happy with his nursery in a short space of time. Good space, nice staff, clean area. My son is so happy to go there every day.
Overall I am extremely happy with Bright Horizons the staff are great as well as the management. My daughter settled quickly and extremely happy with the activities and gets along with the staff. The care they have given along with looking after the children are excellent.
We only occasionally collect our granddaughter from nursery but whenever we do, every member of staff is very friendly, helpful and full of information about our granddaughter’s day. It’s clear that she always has a great time at the nursery.
My daughter has just finished pre-school and has been well set up to start reception by the staff at pre-school. The program of preparation sessions worked really well. She has formed good friendships with the other children and has been well cared for by the staff, especially during the lockdown when there were staff and children changing locations due to the 'hub' that was created to look after key worker children.
Since my little girl started at Shortlands Bright Horizons, she loved it. The staff are amazing with the children and helped me as a parent when my daughter was settling. I have seen over the two years that my daughter has attended the nursery, her personality developed and her confidence grew. Nothing is too much trouble with the staff and I found my daughter's key workers kind and caring towards her. I cannot rate the nursery highly enough.
Our children have had a wonderful journey during their time in this nursery. The staff are friendly and genuinely care for the children. It has been an absolute pleasure dealing with the staff.
It's a great nursery with amazing and attentive people working there. It has lots of space, a nice garden for kids to run around, plenty of interesting toys, and many planned activities. Everyone who works there clearly loves kids and lavishes them with attention but also encourages them to develop their skills and explore the world. My kid really enjoyed it there, I loved it there and felt very supported as a new parent, and I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.
It was an amazing journey that we have done in the nursery. My child is confident, friendly, English is excellent (not his first language). I will always be grateful to the team, especially two particular members of staff. We grew up together, they helped us so much! They did a fantastic job. Always will be in our heart. Thanks for your help and support.
I'm a fan of Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool. The staff are wonderful and the children are very happy.

Meet the Team (3)
Helen has been working with Bright Horizons for over 15 years, starting as a Nursery Nurse in Shortlands and progressing to Deputy Manager. In 2016, she moved to Caterham to gain experience in a larger nursery before returning to Shortlands as Nursery Manager in January 2018.
Holding a degree in Early Childhood Studies, she has gained valuable insight into child development. Her experience includes working in a nursery in Australia and she continues to refresh her knowledge and expertise in early years education.
Her passion has always been to guide each child in reaching their full potential. She feels privileged to make a meaningful impact on children's lives during this crucial stage of development.
Jodi has been working in the childcare field for over 18 years, with eleven of those years at Bright Horizons Shortlands. She began as an apprentice and worked her way up to Room Leader, Third in Charge and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2018.
She feels incredibly fortunate in her role, as it allows her to support the development of children, the team, and the learning environments. She especially enjoys watching children grow and progress through each room until they graduate to their reception classes at school.
At the very heart of Shortlands Day Nursery is our two wonderful chefs, Jennes and Sam.
They have over 50 years kitchen experience combined. Together Jennes and Sam have continuously achieved 5 stars EHO inspections and have provided the children with delicious, nutritious meals. They have also supported the children with growing our own produce to cook and have facilitated creative cook sessions.
Jennes favourite meal to cook is different pasta dishes and at home is fried chicken and rice. Sam's favourite meal to cook are a roast dinner and chicken curry.
