Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool (Formerly Shortlands Little Stars)

Shortlands day nursery is a beautiful converted church which boasts some of the original features, high ceilings and generous space in the rooms. The nursery has four rooms which include a baby, toddler, nursery class and Preschool room and they are lucky to have separate gardens for the under twos and over twos. They are a two minute walk from Shortlands station which has excellent links into London and a short drive into the centre of Bromley.

The nursery offers a high standard of childcare and education and provides a happy and secure atmosphere for children aged three months to five years.

An enthusiastic team of professional staff are dedicated to providing the children with the very best opportunities and are committed to the development of each child.

The children also benefit from bespoke Growing Programmes including: Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians. Healthy meals and snacks are prepared on-site by the talented chef.

Bright Horizons Shortlands has been great beyond words. My daughter is now trying and testing foods she would have once refused. She has really thrived in the setting. The staff are absolutely incredible and I would recommend Shortlands to everyone. Thank you to my daughter's caregivers especially,
but most of all thank you to everyone. You have made our experience a very pleasant one.

Our experience at Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool was really positive. Our son started at the nursery from around 2, and he has been making lots of progress ever since. There are many different kinds of activities throughout the day and the week, and the children have a big garden
to go out and play. It was slightly messy at times (rain, wet etc.), but our son loved it. He also made lots of friends and always came home happy after school.
As parents, we love how the nursery sends us many photos and information to keep us up to date via the app (which works quite well). Moreover, the school is quite flexible at dealing with urgent childcare requests from us (extra sessions), and this helped us immensely.
Overall, we are quite happy with the nursery.

My daughter moved to Bright Horizons Shortlands from another Bright Horizons nursery that closed for refurbishment. The staff helped her to settle in well and she has grown in confidence over the past ten months. Although she will be the youngest in her new primary school year, she has been well prepared
by the nursery to start school. We have been very happy with the nursery and the staff who have cared for her so well.

Our children attended Bright Horizons Shortlands for the last year in different groups. They have been in other settings before and the staff at Shortlands were very good at helping them settle in. The children enjoyed their time in the nursery and they have learned a lot during their time there. The
older one also enjoyed a lot his time in pre-school and the fact that they have done the prepping for school days and the overall activities. They have also benefited from spending a lot of time together in the garden and play with each other and the staff was always great at helping them rely on each other if they needed support to get back into the nursery schedule after a break. The graduation celebration for the children in pre-school was also very well organised and the staff put a lot of thought and effort into making sure children and parents get to enjoy a special day.

Every time we drop our daughter off, our daughter has such a big smile when she sees all staff members. She loves them. The staff seem genuinely very happy to see her. She is developing so well there. She does activities (artistic) that we would struggle to do at home as well as they do at nursery,
which helps her development. We trust the staff and know she is in great hands. We feel relieved that we are leaving her in the care of the staff. Her diet is varied there.

Excellent nursery run by a well-managed and extremely hard-working team. All of the staff who have worked with my children have taken the time to get to know our children, which has really supported their development. Would definitely recommend to other parents.

My daughter did really enjoy going to nursery every morning. She made good friends and really had a great time. She was always very happy to see her carer and the rest of the team at the nursery. Our eldest also spent time at this nursery and as a family, we could not be more grateful to the team.

Our son has been with Bright Horizons, Shortlands for a year and a half, in the preschool room. We couldn't be happier with the care! He is always excited to go and skips in without looking back. His days are filled with art, learning and time in the garden (which has just been redone)! With the help
of the team who manages his room, he has grown into a happy, kind, inquisitive little boy - ready to go to school this September! They have been great getting him ready for this transition with packed lunch and PE days!

My child has been at the nursery for over a year and has made good progress. The staff are caring, but one or two are particularly vague at pick-up times, when I ask how my child has been during the day/activities they have been doing. Compared with friends who have children at other nurseries, the
updates from Bright Horizons, Shortlands, are somewhat lacking. They have an app, but photos are rarely posted. There are no insightful comments about my child's development (either on the app or in person) and I do not think the app is utilised as well as it could be. The meals, they are served, are generally good and healthy-sounding. But there are more occasions than I would like when my child eats crackers and spread for dinner and returns home, ravenous. Lots of outside playtime, which is excellent. My child appears to be making adequate progress, although I am told by him that they do watch TV at nursery, which is not really what I pay for!

My son has been going to nursery for the last two years, and he has developed so much under their care. The staff are lovely and very helpful. They have also launched an app recently, using which parents can view the child's activities throughout the day, which is really great.

My child has been attending Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool for over two years, and I am really happy with the care that they have provided. He has grown and developed so much. The staff are all amazing at what they do. He’s bonded really well with all his key workers. He loves
to be mostly in the garden and when I pick him up he always has a smile on his face. He loves to tell me about his day, which is lovely to hear. Also, the staff have had to take on a lot more during Covid-19 and they have done amazingly.

My niece has been attending Shortlands for nearly a year now and I and her family are very happy with her progress. We have no worries about sending the little one in due to covid as we know all measures and policies are being met. The staff in her room are amazing at what they do and always give us
great feedback and photos of her day. When I collect my niece which is fortnightly, staff still always take the correct measures to make sure my niece is able to leave with me and given permission from her parents. I can’t wait to be able to bring my child here.

My daughter attended Shortlands from the age of 1 and started Reception this year. She has been home-schooling since January and in observing her classes I have remarked that her level of numeracy, literacy and social engagement is in advance of her peers, something her teacher has confirmed. I know
such strong groundwork was laid by the nursery and the staff, who worked so hard to engage and instruct the children. I knew at the time that she was having a ball, it's gratifying to see that the effects of a good nursery have greater positive reach into her future. Ever thankful for her early year's experience in this fantastic setting.

Helen

Helen

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Helen has been working with Bright Horizons for over 15 years, starting as a Nursery Nurse in Shortlands and progressing to Deputy Manager. In 2016, she moved to Caterham to gain experience in a larger nursery before returning to Shortlands as Nursery Manager in January 2018.


Holding a degree in Early Childhood Studies, she has gained valuable insight into child development. Her experience includes working in a nursery in Australia and she continues to refresh her knowledge and expertise in early years education.


Her passion has always been to guide each child in reaching their full potential. She feels privileged to make a meaningful impact on children's lives during this crucial stage of development.

Jodi

Jodi

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Jodi has been working in the childcare field for over 18 years, with eleven of those years at Bright Horizons Shortlands. She began as an apprentice and worked her way up to Room Leader, Third in Charge and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2018.


She feels incredibly fortunate in her role, as it allows her to support the development of children, the team, and the learning environments. She especially enjoys watching children grow and progress through each room until they graduate to their reception classes at school.

Jennes and Sam

Job Title: Chef

At the very heart of Shortlands Day Nursery is our two wonderful chefs, Jennes and Sam.


They have over 50 years kitchen experience combined. Together Jennes and Sam have continuously achieved 5 stars EHO inspections and have provided the children with delicious, nutritious meals. They have also supported the children with growing our own produce to cook and have facilitated creative cook sessions.


Jennes favourite meal to cook is different pasta dishes and at home is fried chicken and rice. Sam's favourite meal to cook are a roast dinner and chicken curry.
