I feel they are attentive, easy going, try to build good relationships with the kids.
I also like the fact that you can chat to the staff via the app and get prompt replies. Admins are brilliant too.
Something that probably can be improved is the feedback when you pick up your kid after 6 pm. Often the staff providing updates haven't worked in your kid's room hence may have limited knowledge of what happened during the day. I think it has been better recently but had occasions before when the staff could not answer some questions.
We also appreciate your comments regarding end of day feedback. We are glad to hear this has improved recently and will continue to work on ensuring updates are as detailed and helpful as possible.
Our daughter has been attending this nursery since September 2025, and she settled in incredibly quickly. From the start, the key staff and other team members in her room have been warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. She is always happy and excited to see them, which is so reassuring as a parent.
During her time here, we've noticed a huge improvement in her speech. She's constantly coming home with new words, songs, and little things she's learned throughout the day, which has been wonderful to see.
It's clear that she is very well cared for. From the daily handovers at pick-up to the photos we receive, she seems to have consistently happy and engaging days.
We're really glad we chose this nursery. It gives us great peace of mind knowing she's in such safe, caring, and capable hands.

Absolutely brilliant all round! The activities for book week were fantastic and Archie loves his nursery because of all the fun and varied activites. A special mention to his key worker Mia who is beyond fantastic. Archies speech - table manners and overallt development has come on leaps and bounds and I put a large part of this down to the nursery. Keep up the good work.

Amazing staff, Celine is so happy, a few hiccups at the start about her milk intake but all resolved and very thoughtful. Would love if more focus is on developing 1 year old standing and walking skills to emulate environment at home / keep things consistent

A wonderful nursery, the staff are excellent. The nursery is very well run and they really set your little one up for school. They're always doing creative and fun activities and make the most of all of the outdoor space and garden, I highly recommend.

They do many activities with the children and keep you updated throughout the day. If I ever need an extra sessions they are always accommodating.

We love this nursery for our little girl. She started as a 6-month-old baby and the adapting period was prepared to meet her needs and prepare for regular sessions. All staff members are lovely and genuinely love children. Every day is filled with a lot of stimulating their curiosity activities which are then beautifully presented to parents. Baby feels very comfortable and approaches the door with a smile on her face. Would highly recommend this nursery!

I approached Bright Horizons as I needed a short turnaround for the start date.
He has loved every minute and has not cried once since starting. He is happy and excited to go to nursery, and this brings me so much joy.
He also had/has ongoing issues with his speech but has come so far since joining.

Throughout her time in the different rooms, the staff have been kind, warm and approachable. There is low staff turnover which contributes to the lovely, family feel and to our daughter developing in confidence throughout her time there. The nursery facilities have been updated recently and the activities planned by the team are always enjoyed and appropriate.
Our second child now also attends Shortlands and we are equally happy with her progress.
I'd highly recommend this nursery to other families in the area.

We've had a wonderful experience with Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool! There is a very personal feel to the nursery and all the staff know the children well (and parents) and are happy to discuss how your little one is doing. We were so pleased with the settling process, management and the key workers took a really, baby-led, flexible approach and were happy to accommodate what was required for our little one to feel settled. The facilities are great and there seem to be lots of fun activities going on (ball pit, messy play, painting etc.) which we get regular pictures of and updates. Overall, we couldn't recommend this nursery more, our little one loves going there and reaches out grinning to all of the staff as soon as we arrive which is so nice and reassuring! Bright Horizons Shortlands is a great, well-run nursery, made even nicer by a welcoming, really warm team.

We have loved our Bright Horizons Shortlands experience. Both of our children have loved coming here and they have developed key social skills. The activities and experiences set up daily are imaginable and impressive and the kids love to tell us about their day. Communication with the new app is great and a great addition during our time here. The activities where they leave the nursery are also a great experience for the kids. It's very difficult being working parents (full time- and we're highly appreciative of the care shown at Bright Horizons Shortlands.

Meet the Team (3)
Helen has been working with Bright Horizons for over 15 years, starting as a Nursery Nurse in Shortlands and progressing to Deputy Manager. In 2016, she moved to Caterham to gain experience in a larger nursery before returning to Shortlands as Nursery Manager in January 2018.
Holding a degree in Early Childhood Studies, she has gained valuable insight into child development. Her experience includes working in a nursery in Australia and she continues to refresh her knowledge and expertise in early years education.
Her passion has always been to guide each child in reaching their full potential. She feels privileged to make a meaningful impact on children's lives during this crucial stage of development.
Jodi has been working in the childcare field for over 18 years, with eleven of those years at Bright Horizons Shortlands. She began as an apprentice and worked her way up to Room Leader, Third in Charge and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2018.
She feels incredibly fortunate in her role, as it allows her to support the development of children, the team, and the learning environments. She especially enjoys watching children grow and progress through each room until they graduate to their reception classes at school.
At the very heart of Shortlands Day Nursery is our two wonderful chefs, Jennes and Sam.
They have over 50 years kitchen experience combined. Together Jennes and Sam have continuously achieved 5 stars EHO inspections and have provided the children with delicious, nutritious meals. They have also supported the children with growing our own produce to cook and have facilitated creative cook sessions.
Jennes favourite meal to cook is different pasta dishes and at home is fried chicken and rice. Sam's favourite meal to cook are a roast dinner and chicken curry.
