8.5 Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool has a Review Score of 8.5 (8.530)

The Review Score of 8.5 (maximum of 10) for Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.51 for Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 192 Ratings = 4.51

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.02 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 14.8 positive Reviews (74 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 14.8 Target = 0.270

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

As a step parent it is sometimes scary taking your step child into an environment where you may feel judged, the staff at Shortlands have been so welcoming of our family and our circumstances - I couldn't praise them more.
We had a rocky start with settling due to my child being very clingy, but the staff were considerate of both mine and my child's feelings at this time.
The nursery is clean, bright and welcoming and all staff are happy which helps the children to settle quickly.
I have and will continue to share the experience I have at Shortlands.

Both my children have been to this nursery and thoroughly enjoyed their time.
Bright Horizons high standards and the lovely people that work there have made my return to work after maternity a painless experience.
There is also a low staff turn-over which is usually sign of a good management.
I have really enjoyed the people working here. The nursery is located next to the train station and opens long hours.

I was impressed from our first visit with the cleanliness, and the professional and really lovely caring staff. The children are always playing happily, and there are lots of creative things they can do, plus a great garden when it is good weather. He also always loves the food!

My son's development has increased through the interaction he's had with the other children and child care staff. It's helped that he's made some close friends in nursery. Staff are all very attentive and I have seen them comforting teary children whenever I've done the drop-off / pick-up. The planned activities make learning fun and the weekly updates that parents receive is much appreciated as we're informed of their progress.

I feel like my child's room is a warm and inviting environment. The staff are very caring and passionate about the children. They are also very reassuring. My child always comes away from nursery happy with a new thing she has done each day. The nursery, in general, is a calm, happy and safe environment, which makes me very reassured that my child will be happy in my absence.

This year has seen a lot of change in the personnel at the nursery and the new management has taken while to bed in. However, I think the changes and re-establishment of experienced leadership in the pre-school are now showing a positive effect, learning activities and more structured play have been restarted along with appropriate responsibilities for the children. When we had a specific behaviour problem in the nursery early in the year staff responded quickly and appropriately and worked with us to give emotional training to our child and the others involved and our child is now a lot more confident as a result. More work with parents and specific learning activities for individual children would be very helpful.

Thank you for your feedback – your thoughts are very important to us. By giving us your feedback, you are helping us to understand how we can provide the highest level of care to our children and families.

I'm so happy to know I can leave my daughter in 2-3's knowing she is well and truly looked after. My daughter is always asking if she can go to nursery even on days she does not go and weekends. All staff in the 2-3's and around the other rooms show so much care and concern for the children and always make us feel welcome.
There's always lots of activities going on all through the day and I really enjoy bringing home my daughters work.
I also enjoy that my daughter goes outside every day in all weathers and on small trips when they can :)

When my baby started nursery in February, we had very intense time, the baby was always sick and went only for few a days and cried a lot, but after this very hard moment, my baby was really enjoyed it. He has learned how to eat and drink by himself, he changed his habits in a good way.
What I like the most, is that there is a continued work between family and the teachers. We communicate a lot, they were so supportive when the baby was continuously sick in the first month. I feel now that the nursery is part of our routine and the baby is so happy.
He started to not cry in the morning any more!!! If someone had told me that, I would not have believed it.
So in the end it was the right choice and I have already recommended it to my colleges.

Hope this could help a family or mother to start their baby into nursery, it is very hard moment when you have to separate from your baby, but to have a good team supporting you, can make the difference.

My daughter joined the nursery a few months ago and I have nothing but praise for the staff. They are very accommodating to my needs, and as a particularly worried parent they put my mind at ease whilst I'm at work. The activities she participates in are great as we do not have the space at home. The updates I receive at the end of the day are very useful too as we can see what and how much she's eaten and slept that day. If you are looking for a place for your child that is flexible, caring, considerate and professional then this is the nursery for you.

The staff at Shortlands have been fantastic in welcoming our daughter to nursery. She took a little time to settle in, but with their patience and kindness she is now thriving and thoroughly enjoys her days there. The carers have also shown great awareness of the needs of us as parents, understanding and supporting us as we get to grips with nursery life.

Both my girls went to this nursery. Although my standards were quite high coming from NZ it was the only nursery that could accommodate both my girls. After not expecting too much I have been really impressed with them and the staff. The turnover is very low and the environment is excellent compared to others I looked at. One of my daughters took a while to settle but the staff always gave her reassuring cuddles. Both girls were happy and well fed. They did loads of creative activities.
