We managed to get a place at Dicky Birds Day Nursery just before I was due to go back to work. The team were amazing at settling my son in on unusual circumstances and making sure we, as a family, were happy.
The team are always so positive and happy, and nine weeks in my son is loving his time there.
They have fantastic activities for the babies to enjoy each day, a great variety of food and I couldn’t be more confident that this is the right nursery for him. A huge thank you to the staff for making this transition such a positive experience.

Our little girl has been at Dicky Birds, Claremont Road, Surbiton since she was just under 2 years old. We had just emigrated to the UK from South Africa and were very nervous about leaving our child in anyone’s care other than our own. Needless to say the team at Dicky Birds very swiftly quelled all
our concerns. They are all so competent, kind and helpful. Our little girl goes from strength to strength in developing her confidence, social skills etc and has adapted so well. Dicky Birds is a safe haven for us and we leave our child in their care with complete peace and confidence five days a week. Needless to say our secondborn will be joining the Dicky Birds family later this year too! A massive thank you to the Dicky Birds team for all their hard work; for the love and care they show our chicks and for being such super people in general.
Reply from Charlotte Whyatt, Marketing and Communications Executive at Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Surbiton, Claremont RoadHi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. My son has been attending Claremont Road Dicky Birds from the age of 14 months, going from the Duckling's baby room to now the Emus pre-school room. We couldn’t be happier with the choice we made: the staff are wonderful in all the rooms, meals are good, and communication very thorough. Considering
the centre of town setting, the children benefit from a nice (if small) outside area and they go on outing most days weather permitting, to the river, the park etc. My little one loves going to nursery and I know he will miss it very much once he’s moving on to reception later this year.

We have been part of Dicky Birds Day Nursery since 2016 when my eldest son started there. He absolutely loved his time there and now my youngest is also loving it! My 3 year old always wants to go to nursery and even asks to go at the weekends! The staff are brilliant...communicative, friendly, aware
of developmental milestones and any needs that your child has. You get individualised feedback at the end of the day and regular parent meetings to review your child's development. My son has wonderful relationships with the staff and my older son is still remembered and the staff chat with him when he comes to pick up! Communication is excellent: verbally, via email and through the parent app. All the food is cooked in-house and the children enjoy what they are given. There is a strong vision of supporting independence even in young children, while also being a wonderfully loving and nurturing environment. We have been really happy with our Dicky Birds journey so far!

We visited every nursery in Surbiton and decided on this Dicky Birds nursery because it ticked all the boxes: safety, engaged and responsive staff, structured routine, good staff-to-baby ratio, healthy meals etc. The location of the nursery is great; we liked that it's not on a main road and the garden
is set back away from the road, it's also close to shops and the train station, making a convenient choice. The children have daily outings and lots of activities. The meals are well thought out and made on the premises so it's fresh and our picky eater eats the majority of what is offered to him; much better than at home! I also like that management (and the staff) there are proactive and reactive and are very good at keeping parents informed.
Our son has been going there for two years and he loves it. He's learned so much there as the staff are brilliant in creating lessons disguised as playtime. He loves going to Dicky Birds!

My daughter loves the time she spends at Dicky Birds. She has been there for just over a year and adores the staff and all of the fun activities they do together. They make the most of being outside in the local area and go out daily for walks or sports. We are so happy we chose this nursery, it's been
a hugely positive experience.

My daughter is having a lovely time in the Emus room. She is very fond of all of the staff, who I know are taking really good care of her. She tells me about the walks she goes on, sports lessons, to the river, watching the trains and nature walks.
She really enjoyed watching the chicks hatch earlier
this month and the plants that she has grown.
She is also enjoying the home-cooked meals.

My child is perfectly happy in his nursery. I feel that he learns a lot from playing and interacting with other children and the teachers. He often relates to his experiences during the time in the nursery, tells some interesting stories and is happy overall.

We've had both our children at Dicky Birds from age 1 to 4 and our youngest is getting ready to graduate to school now. It is a lovely nursery with great staff and most importantly the kids have loved going there. The staff are all kind and friendly and I've been impressed at how well they've prepared
them for school, with writing skills as well as building their confidence. The outside space is small but they make the most of the parks in the local area so the kids don't miss out, and they have a great sports program too. I thoroughly recommend.

Dicky Birds is a lovely small nursery (compared to some of the larger ones I’m the area) that makes you feel like it is a home from home in the way it is set up. They focus on the child, and although there is structure it is not rigid and they allow the children to be children and giving them their
own freedom also to make choices. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, and my son has really enjoyed attending there since 2019 to present. I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of nurseries in the Surbiton area.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.711 for Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Surbiton, Claremont Road is calculated as follows: ( (156 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 204 Ratings = 4.711
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Surbiton, Claremont Road is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 number of registered child places is 14, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
