Bright Horizons West Hampstead Station Day Nursery and Preschool is a beautiful Victorian villa, renovated to a high standard, designed to bring the outdoors in. The big windows maximise the feeling of light and space within the building.

Unlike some London nurseries, the nursery has a large garden at the rear where children can play sports, ride bikes on a cycling track with traffic lights and enjoy sensory experiences.

Our settlement period was 2 months long.
1 Extremely high staff turnover. During the settlement of my child, there were only 1-2 permanent people across the two baby groups the nursery has (1-2 people were on holidays) and the rest were agency staff that changed every day! I wasn’t even able to remember their faces! Obviously, the babies get frustrated being left with strangers every day.
2 On a good point, management was quite open to sharing information during the hard times: kept parents up to date with the recruitment process, made staff shifts available to be viewed.

3 Settlement procedures need to be reviewed. Now the staff just takes the new coming baby for a certain period of time (1-4 hours) and let the baby cry-it-out. I believe this could be done in a much softer way: let parents stay with the baby in the room for a few times then leave only for a short period (5-15 min) for the first time. I believe it’s also helpful to invite staff to visit families at home as some schools do.

Active Learning West Hampstead is an excellent nursery. Having experienced a terrible childcare provider prior to the Active Learning Nursery, we were relieved to experience excellent care for our son in the baby room. The staff are extremely caring and friendly and we appreciate the time they take to inform them us about our sons day when we pick him up. The communication with staff and management is great and we have experienced great flexibility with regards to changes in his nursery hours. We could not have chosen a better nursery for our son.

We feel the children are well looked after in the nursery and despite it being a big setting, each child is known by all teachers and admin staff. The activities proposed are good and give a nice structure to the week. The teachers seem to prepare the children very well to go to school and the pre-school program is a good mix of play and learning. We feel our child develops well and is happy to go to nursery every morning.

Wonderfully friendly and stimulating environment offered by the nursery and its expert staff. Couldn't be happier with the start that it has provided for both my children.

Our son has been at this wonderful nursery for 9 months and he is now 3.5 years old! The staff are caring and enthusiastic - and the facilities are beautiful. He loves the friends he has made over the years - both other children and staff members. They provide perfect experiences for each age - from yoga to art class, to French and now learning to count, read and write! Highly recommend.

The settling in period for my daughter did not go as planned as the lady looking after her left straight after the settling. No one informed me of this situation previously and I only discovered it on a Friday evening. In general, the care is good but the staff are quite reactive and you always need to ask questions. For example, you need to ask to have your child's review or in general just to know if your child is progressing. They are quite good at keeping your current child routine and she seems to enjoy the playtime there.

I just wanted to take a minute to recognise all the hard work the teachers and support staff in pre-school put into the safety, care and teaching of my daughter.

My daughter has benefitted greatly and I'm fully confident that her years attending Active Learning has prepared her for the next stage of school.

Excellent pre-school! My daughter who attends full time has blossomed under the care and supervision of the firm, kind, knowledgeable staff. My daughter loves the range of activities (sport, dance, French, art, yoga and more) and has a real bond with her outstanding key person. The home-school partnership is really emphasised and we truly appreciated the support in my daughter's potty training and "picky eater" phase. My husband and I feel confident that our daughter will be well-prepared for "big school" next year, thanks to her experience at Active Learning, West Hampstead.

Our son has been going to this nursery for six months and it's been good overall. Permanent staff are great, but I do agree that there is a high turnover of people and there seem to be new faces about all the time. Not sure the reason why there is high turnover, but there is clearly an issue underlying there. Apart from that, it's been a great experience overall, people are friendly and they do care well for the children there.

Good nursery with attentive staff that really care for the growth and well being of our son.

We had a period with a lot of staff turnover but this seems to have settled down now to allow the kids some continuity.

Two members of staff in particular are doing a fantastic job in the toddler room and we are glad that another member of staff has also joined the room.

However, we are very concerned that for months there has been a lack of consistency of other staff in the room.

Practically every day there are different people there when we pick up our son.
He is still very young and needs consistency of care, which is not currently being provided.

We are concerned that despite this being an issue for months, there have been no appointments of other permanent staff for this room.

Good permanent staff, however too many temporary personnel. Management needs to review the reason why staff are leaving and address this matter at the earliest. With regards to food, I believe that carbs (i.e pasta) need to be given less and replaced with more vegetables.

I have 2 children at the nursery, one at pre-school and the other at the toddler group.
While I'm happy with the pre-school, and can only say good things about the permanent staff in both rooms, I will not recommend this nursery because of the management.
1. There have been frequent management changes at this nursery in the last 2.5 years since my first child joined. These frequent management changes cause staff members to leave and give a sense of lack of stability to the place.
2. The current manager, who replaced one of the best managers this nursery had, has made some poor changes:
- she turned one of the toddler rooms to an office for herself, at the expense of the children.
- as a result, there's a huge toddler classroom instead of 2 separate, intimate rooms, which this age group desperately needs.
- too many agency staff are brought in, and there's a new face in the room almost every day.

- permanent staff don't have enough time to dedicate to each child as a result.
