Set within the Welbeck Estate, just outside Worksop, Child First Nursery offers children an unusually spacious environment in which to learn, explore and spend time in nature. With access to the wider 5,500-acre estate, the setting makes the most of its surroundings to provide experiences that extend well beyond the traditional nursery environment.

Children are introduced to a broad range of activities and skills, including horticulture, art, dance, music, cooking, nutrition and the natural world. Facilities include a music cave, sensory room, outdoor art room, allotment, fire pit and covered outdoor sleeping area. The nursery even has its own rare-breed chickens, giving children further opportunities to learn about animals and the natural environment.
Both indoor and outdoor spaces have been designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and active learning. The extensive grounds of the Welbeck Estate provide additional scope for children to experience the outdoors and develop an appreciation of the world around them.
Food is freshly prepared by an on-site chef, with locally sourced produce used wherever possible. Mealtimes form part of the nursery experience, complementing children's opportunities to learn about food, cooking and nutrition.
Child First places particular emphasis on its team of specialist practitioners and chooses to staff the nursery above the minimum legal requirements. During the settling-in period, each child is given the time and support they need to become comfortable and confident in their new surroundings, with their individual happiness and wellbeing remaining the priority.
The nursery is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and offers free parking for families. While its estate location may mean travelling a little further for some parents, Child First aims to make that journey worthwhile through the breadth of space, experiences and opportunities available to children.

My little boy thrives at this nursery. It was the first and only I looked at, I knew he would be okay here. The staff are so lovely and always keen to let me know how he has gotten on that day. They always have time to talk and never make you feel like an inconvenience. Super responsive via the app whenever there's a question/concern. My son has come on massively with his eating which has always been a challenge and I'm sure this is down to nursery. I couldn't rave about this place more and it's always the first place I recommend when I'm in conversations with mums looking for a nursery.

My experience with Child First Welbeck has been nothing but positive. From my older son attending their pre school to my daughter just starting in the baby room. They have been nothing but accommodating with my daughter and making me feel at ease with her going to nursery and not be with me 24/7. My son had also advanced dramatically, he is only 3 and can do simple sums and spell words and all of this has been supported by the nursery. We really love it here.

My daughter has been attending the nursery for a year now and it's been a very positive experience. The management was very good in setting things up for us and getting all the admin done and the staff overall have been fantastic in welcoming her and then looking after her. We've seen great progress with our daughter in terms of her social skills, but it's clear the staff also have the children's educational needs in mind as well and encourage learning through playtime, games and singing etc. We also like the environment and setting, it's not a sterile boring classroom environment and there are plenty of outdoor activities encouraged.
Feedback is good, updates are provided by the online app, and we've recently attended a 'parents evening' to discuss progress. Lastly, extra events are a nice touch, encouraging participation in Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's etc. as well as having events for things like Mother's Day and Father's Day breakfasts.

My little boy has been attending Welbeck for over 2 years and I cannot praise them enough. The attention they give to the children and the nurturing they do to allow them to grow and progress is second to none. My little one's development would not be where it is if it wasn't for the amazing staff.
The food they provide was one of the main reasons for choosing the nursery as well as the outdoor facilities and I can only say that due to this place, my little boy has thrived!

What a wonderful nursery! Our eldest daughter has been attending for three years. She has an autoimmune condition and multiple allergies, which the nursery offered us full support in managing. She is growing into a happy, kind and very intelligent little girl thanks to the care the amazing staff...
What a wonderful nursery! Our eldest daughter has been attending for three years. She has an autoimmune condition and multiple allergies, which the nursery offered us full support in managing. She is growing into a happy, kind and very intelligent little girl thanks to the care the amazing staff have poured into her. Our second daughter is currently undergoing her settling-in sessions which are going very well. The app has been particularly useful in asking questions ahead of her properly starting.
The best thing about this nursery (aside from being outdoors so much!) is undoubtedly the staff. The ladies in the office go above and beyond to make things easier for busy parents, the chef cooks yummy home-cooked meals and caters brilliantly for allergies and every member of the staff in each room is friendly, helpful and a good role model to the children. I know our eldest will be very sad to leave when she goes to school in September!
