Set within the Welbeck Estate, just outside Worksop, Child First Nursery offers children an unusually spacious environment in which to learn, explore and spend time in nature. With access to the wider 5,500-acre estate, the setting makes the most of its surroundings to provide experiences that extend well beyond the traditional nursery environment.

Children are introduced to a broad range of activities and skills, including horticulture, art, dance, music, cooking, nutrition and the natural world. Facilities include a music cave, sensory room, outdoor art room, allotment, fire pit and covered outdoor sleeping area. The nursery even has its own rare-breed chickens, giving children further opportunities to learn about animals and the natural environment.
Both indoor and outdoor spaces have been designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and active learning. The extensive grounds of the Welbeck Estate provide additional scope for children to experience the outdoors and develop an appreciation of the world around them.
Food is freshly prepared by an on-site chef, with locally sourced produce used wherever possible. Mealtimes form part of the nursery experience, complementing children's opportunities to learn about food, cooking and nutrition.
Child First places particular emphasis on its team of specialist practitioners and chooses to staff the nursery above the minimum legal requirements. During the settling-in period, each child is given the time and support they need to become comfortable and confident in their new surroundings, with their individual happiness and wellbeing remaining the priority.
The nursery is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and offers free parking for families. While its estate location may mean travelling a little further for some parents, Child First aims to make that journey worthwhile through the breadth of space, experiences and opportunities available to children.

Where do I start with this amazing nursery! My daughter has been coming since she was two, she is now almost four and still loves it! I am a key worker, and they have remained open so I can go to work. All the staff go above and beyond to make sure that she still has a wonderful day, even though there are a lot fewer children at the moment. She, unfortunately, left her most favourite teddy there just before the Easter break and one of the staff members was so kind in returning him to our doorstep. I am so grateful for everything they have done for us. We love getting pictures and videos of all the fun she is having in this incredible setting.
I cannot recommend them enough!

Finding a nursery for my daughter in 2016 was tough but when I heard that Child First was opening at Welbeck, I was excited to visit as I like the Child First ethos. My daughter started as soon as it opened and stayed until she had to start school. She loves the outdoors, and this is the perfect place to nurture those interests and so much more. They can choose if they want to play inside or out, and the staff encourage the children to learn through play, paint, songs, stories but let them lead the way. My Son started in December 2019 and was just starting to settle when the pandemic hit. His key worker was so supportive as he was reluctant to have me leave, but each visit, was getting better and he even started to ask “can I go to nursery today”. I’m hoping that he can be back there soon so he can grow and develop friendships in such a happy, natural environment. Thank you to all the staff at Welbeck for making it a lovely place to be.

This is an outstanding nursery that is totally unique and allows children to be children, playing in the mud and learning through play. I love the fact that its free flow and ages mix.
The grounds are stunning, food is cooked on-site and menus provided to ensure we know what the children have eaten. All allergies are always catered for. The staff team, including management, cannot do enough for the parents and children. They really do feel like an extended family.

I and my husband just wanted to leave a review so everyone else can know just how exceptional this nursery is. Our daughter has been going here just short of two years now and it really is amazing, the activities that the children can do are exceptional on a daily basis from cooking with the chef to feeding the chickens and jumping in muddy puddles; they really do have it all! The staff are amazing and go above and beyond, and our daughter is always talking about how amazing they all are! If you want your child to thrive, and be loved like they are at home, then you don’t need to look any further.

My son has been coming to this nursery since May 2019. I cannot recommend this nursery enough. The nursery offers a wide range and variety of activities which wouldn’t be offered at ‘normal run of the mill’ nurseries, for example, they do yoga classes, painting to different styles of music and let them express themselves as they wish to do so in a safe, calm and caring environment, letting the children gain a wide range of experience growing/planting and taking care of plants, flowers and vegetables. I also like the fact that the children get the opportunity to bake and cook different things from buns, cupcakes and pastries to savoury dishes. The staff are absolutely outstanding, always putting the needs of the children first, and most importantly are so approachable kind and friendly. Whenever I call the nursery to see how my son is doing the staff always have time to speak to me. Any child would be so lucky to come here!

Our daughter absolutely loves it here. She was so anxious and quiet when she first started five months ago, but the staff made every effort possible to make sure her time was enjoyable and also that we knew she was ok. She now gets so excited when she knows she's going. Her confidence has soared, her language and understanding has increased massively and all while exploring and playing. I don't think she would have settled this well at any other nursery.
The setting is beautiful, but it really is the staff who make this nursery so special.

Choosing a nursery to send your children to is one of the most difficult decisions. However my children picked Child First and it picked me, from the moment we entered we were all hooked by the beautiful setting. We were instantly welcomed as a family, our thoughts and wishes valued and each of our children treated as individuals.
The girls were/are always excited to be going to nursery and had wonderful stories to tell, once been about their adventures. Their self-confidence and personality have grown incredibly strong and their love for the outdoors has blossomed! The only way I can sum up our experience is it felt like leaving my children in the care of family! Thank you to all at Childfirst for enabling me to go back to work worry free!

Moving our little girl to this nursery was the best decision we have ever made. All the staff are so attentive, loving, caring and supportive. They actively encourage them to be children, to have fun and to learn while doing so. My little girl absolutely loves all the members of staff and the nursery. And of course, one of the best things is she gets to be herself. The fact that this nursery is mainly all around being outside and exploring and growing makes it such a magical and one-off place for these children.
The chef is amazing. My little girl eats so much more now after being able to experiment with her foods. Every child that attends here is kind, loving and caring. It really is like a large family. I can’t thank the team enough for everything they do. One of a kind.

I'm a mum of two grown-up daughters and am a Nan to a beautiful baby boy, Eliott. I've worked in early years settings for 21 years. I love being part of children's journeys and watching them grow. It brings me immense joy to see that I've played a part in the first chapter of their lives.
