Acorn at Westcroft is a nursery in the Westcroft retail district, offering a spacious and well-equipped range of rooms for children to play and explore.

There are four small, outdoor play areas and in keeping with Acorn's strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, the nursery has its own Forest School site at the nearby Howe Park Wood.

The nursery has a full-time cook and all meals and snacks are freshly prepared on site. The experienced and well qualified staff team are very warm and welcoming and look forward to showing prospective parents around the nursery.

The nursery offers Forest School sessions that take place weekly for older children as well as many planned events throughout the year such as; sports days, graduations, messy stay and plays and cultural themed days. The nursery is also passionate about getting involved with the local community, regularly visiting a group of elderly people at the Shenley Parish Council building nearby; hosting visits from the fire brigade, police, dentist and vets and arranging days where parents can get involved in nursery life through reading, cooking, show and tell and joining the nursery for forest school sessions.

A home visit from the nursery manager and your child’s key person is offered to all new families as children benefit from meeting their key person in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

  • Fees are inclusive of all meals, snacks, drinks (including approved formula milk), nappies and activities.
    We do not charge registration fees, only a £100 deposit which is refunded against the first month’s fees. We don’t charge for settling in sessions, but we do expect payment for all nursery fees to be paid up front at the beginning of each month, which is standard practice for all childcare providers. We do not charge for bank holidays, our four training days each year, or for the three days closure between Christmas and New Year. We do, however, charge for days children don’t attend through illness or holidays, apart from exceptional circumstances.

Fantastic nursery, very caring staff. My daughter started in January and has settled in really well. They update every bit of information on the app and give daily picture updates too so you are rest assured that your child is happy. Love the fact that they take the babies out to the shops or playground
- something I've never come across in other nurseries! She seems to be learning and developing so much since starting. She also seems to be having a wide variety of food and is loving the menu! Would highly recommend.

My daughter has been attending the nursery for a while and I've just registered our second child as well. The staff are just amazing! Always child-centred, responding quickly and so welcoming for children and parents as well. Huge variety of activities for children, excellent care and well-trained staff.

My son comes back absolutely happy here compared to his own nursery. No question/request is ever too much and we as a family feel very welcome. They also try to do activities with parents as a bonus without any additional charge.
The premise is within a very busy area however I feel secure knowing
my son is safe as they really take care of who is at the door on entry etc. Very pleased. So pleased that we have recommended it to others who have also since joined and share the same opinion.

My daughter started at Acorn Nursery in October 2023. Since starting she has thrived and has engaged very well. The staff have been excellent with her, she has additional needs and the nursery has used the resources in order to help with her development. The staff are very supportive and knowledgeable
in regard to child development and care. We receive thorough feedback after each session which is very helpful. They all do an amazing job and my daughter really enjoys her time there.

Couldn't have asked for a more loving, nurturing environment for my son. He loves going to nursery and I feel comfortable knowing that he is well looked after when he's there. My child has been going here for a year and had a hard time settling in, so the staff supported him gently easing in. I’m grateful that they had the experience and patience to handle this while also reassuring us as parents. Once settled in he started learning and engaging with us a lot more. They also
regularly check in to know his interests to learn how to engage with him at nursery. More recently he has shown a lot of enthusiasm to go back to nursery after weekends/breaks, and it shows how comfortable they have made him feel there. They also supported potty training and were very encouraging of his efforts. All in all great care, thought and effort is put in by all the staff and we’re very happy with Acorn at Westcroft.

We've had a very good experience with Acorns. My son moved from the baby room to Squirrels in October last year. The team supported the transition very well. We get regular updates about my son which is great. The team has been excellent in supporting other aspects like potty training, learning, communication
etc. Children get a lot of variation in food and snacks. I'd highly recommend the nursery for other children.

The Acorn Nursery is the best in terms of staff who take care of our child. They are very friendly and make an effort to know the parents to make taking care of kids more intuitive. Overall, I am happy with the care that my son has been receiving at the nursery. The staff seem really good at looking after the kids, involving them in various activities and teaching them good habits. Since my son started going to the nursery his independent play time has improved at home and he has
picked up quite a few good habits. I am also very happy with the way my son is taken care of when he is in a bit of distress (when I drop him off at the nursery).

My daughter absolutely loves her days at nursery!
I feel at ease to know that she is being so well taken care of and having lots of fun.
She often speaks about her teachers at home and tells me how much she loves them.

Great nursery - since my children have joined the staff have helped to settle them with ease. They work hard to develop the children through different daily provisions. They promote plenty of outside play as well as weekly forest school activities, yoga and ad hoc trips to productions. Daily photos
and frequent observations are made, helping to connect their nursery experience with home life. Stay and play sessions allow us to see firsthand how much fun they have!

Our little girl has been at Acorns since the age of 1. Staff have been amazing from the start and always give great care. They are warm and help the children settle to feel safe and secure in their space. We get regular feedback from key staff on our little girl’s development and the photos they share
each day give us a lovely insight into their activities. They have a wide variety of activities and encourage the children in exploring these. We are very pleased we chose acorns and would recommend them to other parents.
