Acorn Day Nursery at Burton Latimer occupies a purpose-built building on a half-acre site. The nursery has bright and spacious rooms, equipped with a full range of high quality equipment and resources.

The nursery is well-known for building close relationships with parents, through daily verbal communication, regular newsletters and social events, which are particularly popular, helping to forge strong links with the whole family.

One of the nursery’s most attractive features, and extremely popular with the children, is its wonderful outside play areas and gardens, including a sensory garden. The staff are warm and friendly and welcome all prospective parents to visit the nursery.

  • Fees are inclusive of all meals, snacks, drinks (including approved formula milk), nappies and activities.
    We only charge a £100 registration deposit which is refunded against the first month’s fees. We don’t charge for settling in sessions, but we do expect payment for all nursery fees to be paid up front at the beginning of each month, which is standard practice for all childcare providers. We do not charge for bank holidays, our four training days each year, or for the three days closure between Christmas and New Year. We do, however, charge for the days children don’t attend through illness or holidays, apart from exceptional circumstances.

Thoughtful, caring nursery, my child loves all indoor and fun outdoor activities, role-playing and learning so much so fast. I would recommend to whoever needs all year round with a working family, hot meals made, fantastic facility. Helpful in any help needed. I can't praise this nursery enough so
much my child has learned in short space of time and enjoys every day going, so much fun.

Perfect nursery for our boys! I love the free flow aspect to the outdoors and how much fun the children have every day getting mucky and being free to really use their imaginations. They take part in so many activities and build really strong relationships with the staff and keyworkers. We had a difficult
time with resettling after lockdown but the staff were super supportive and really helped make it a smooth transition. Lots of good manners come home from nursery too!

Acorn is a total gem of a place for our two boys. The staff are awesome and the boys always come back chatting about the play they have had. We have especially valued the partnership approach that has developed, with updates via the app and also at the end of each day, and also really appreciated the
flexibility that Acorn has extended in terms of some of the changes we have needed to make and requests for ad hoc days.

I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to share my views of my daughter's relatively new nursery. I had to move her after six months at another nursery, but after a couple of weeks adjustment, she has settled in beautifully. I put this down to the kindness, encouragement and understanding of her
ways by the room staff, along with the independence encouraged which suits her personality perfectly. Activities and trips out far exceed her previous setting, including visits to an elderly residential home, the local shop, church for a Christmas performance and weekly forest school sessions which are undertaken by a thoroughly dedicated practitioner come rain, wind or shine. She also gets to enjoy music sessions and football undertaken by external visitors. Sessions are accommodating, particularly where government funding is to be used. Our disappointment by her previous nursery was a total blessing in disguise!

I was very anxious about putting my son into nursery however the amazing colleagues at the nursery completely put myself at ease and my son has settled in wonderfully. Sometimes he does not want to come home! The tasks they do are fun and educational and we can see a huge improvement in his development.
He is making friends, having fun and learning all the time. Our youngest will start at this nursery soon and I already know he will be fine as I have seen how great they have taken care of my eldest so far.

My son attends Acorn Day Nursery, the staff there are very friendly, my son has come on a great deal since starting there, they always keep you up to date with the activities, what they have eaten. There's also someone to help with information at the front desk. 100% recommended Acorn Day Nursery.

My little boy absolutely loves it here. The staff were amazing at helping him settle in and he now cries when I pick him up and makes every attempt to stay there. I especially love the fact that it is all on one floor and the children have continuous access to the outside - the main reason we picked
this nursery. The Famly app is also a massive reassurance as a parent.

My son has been coming to this nursery since the middle of last year and it was honestly the best decision we made. I cannot praise the nursery enough. I genuinely think it must be the best nursery. I am happy to leave my daughter from the beginning. The staff are so kind and caring. My daughters love every member of them. When I pick her up I get feedback as to what has she been doing or happened and anything particularly
interesting. Also I can look in their mobile app. They get a visit from the music man, football man, they go to forest school and they do baking with them and much more. She loves it when the ladies plait her hair. She absolutely adored her first key person, she was so nice and helped her through the settling process and others were there to help.
Although we moved, if I had another child I would take her/him there too.

My daughter started at the nursery in January and we couldn’t be happier. She has settled in so well and loves coming to nursery. All the staff are lovely, kind and professional - it really feels like a home from home environment.
Communication is excellent; we love reading and seeing what she has
been up to throughout the day. We would highly recommend this nursery.

Our daughter has a rare chromosome deletion so has global development delays/special needs. Sending her to nursery age 2 was hard but the minute we stepped into Acorns it was decided, and it has been the making of her. Staff are not phased by her needs at all, anything the other children do, she does
too, she has lots of friends, she qualifies for amazing 1 to 1 care due to her needs, and staff have truly gone to all lengths to accommodate her. The staff all very genuinely care for the children - it's easy to see, they eat fab food, go outside as much as possible and do lots of extra activities like Halloween/Xmas parties/mother's day breakfasts. The Family app is fab so you can always see what they're doing from photos, to what they have eaten to how many nappies they have had! Our little lady had never smiled due to her chromo deletion - it's what we've been waiting for, but since being at Acorns she does it all the time. An absolutely fab environment for a child with special needs that we highly recommend.

I have both of my children here age 1 and 2 and they both love it! All of the staff are lovely and friendly. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming.

Having started my child in a different nursery initially, I can’t tell you how miles apart they were.
I was really concerned as I knew I had to go back to work but wanted my daughter to be happy.
Acorn did a home visit which not a lot of nurseries offer, which was great. They met my daughter in
her own environment and gave her a hand made booklet with pictures of the staff and the nursery before going there. I spent time with her there and she now attends 4 days a week and has settled and is really enjoying herself. Best decision I made in choosing Acorn as I can concentrate on going back to work knowing she is happy.

Helen

Job Title: Senior Nursery Manager Joined: 2015

Helen has worked at Acorn for over five years and has a real passion for childcare.


She has two sons and a daughter and until recently lived in Burton Latimer, so knows the area very well. She qualified with her NNEB level 3 in 1997 and completed her Bachelor of Arts, integrated working with children and their families in the early years in 2015.


Helen is also Burton's Designated Safeguarding Lead, so if you ever have any concerns or would like to chat about anything safeguarding-related, please visit or call the nursery and ask to speak to Helen directly - alternatively, the setting can provide a direct email address for her.

Jo Carlisle

Job Title: Senior Administrator Joined: 2014

Jo - Senior Administrator- joined Acorn in June 2014 on a part time basis as the Nursery Administrator. This evolved into a full-time position, and she is now a Senior Administrator, based at Burton Latimer but helps throughout the organisation.
Every day at nursery is very varied and different, one of the key points Jo likes about her job is seeing the children progress through the nursery, growing into unique and confident little humans. Jo also covers in the kitchen and the rooms when required adding variety to her role

Deputy Manager and Forest School Leader. Lucy joined Acorn in March 2022 as the Out of School Manager at Barton Seagrave. Lucy still oversees the out of school club as well as her role at Burton Latimer.
