The Cottage Day Nursery in Bedford Street, Derby, was established in 1990. It is a family-run business with nurseries based in Derby, Mickleover and Heanor. Bedford Street nursery is the largest in the group, with extensive facilities and age-specific playgrounds.

The baby and toddler unit is in its own building and comprises of a play room, dinner/art room, sensory room, sleep room, physical room and playground.

Main Nursery and Preschool (ages 2+) are on the opposite side of the road and are also in their own buildings. They share a vast playground which also consists of a sensory garden, vegetable garden, story area, indoor soft play area and indoor gym.

All three of my children have been to the Bedford Street site of The Cottage.
Throughout 10years we have had excellent care and support from all nursery nurses and management team.
We have recommended to several friends.

Out little boy loves nursery and is learning lots of new things. The feedback we get is great from the staff. Out little one has bonded well with his key person and this puts us as parents at ease/

The Cottage on Bedford Street is definitely one to recommend, my little boy has been attending for the past 3 months and has settled in amazingly. All the staff here are so friendly and nurturing towards all children and make them feel welcome and loved. My little ones development has come on in leaps
and bounds also and I must thank The Cottage for this.

Both of our boys have attended The Cottage over the last nine years and we cannot speak highly enough of everything they have done and continue to do. From starting as babies to leaving ready for 'big school', the standard of care has been excellent. The staff work so hard to provide a stimulating environment
and plan such varied activities to engage the children from the moment they arrive in the morning. The reaction of the children on a Monday morning after the staff have spent their evenings decorating the entire nursery ready for Christmas is truly magical. As parents, we have always been happy to entrust The Cottage with the care of our children and are confident that our boys are happy and well cared for by the staff. We have seen the nursery change and grow in the time we have been there and believe the outdoor space is second to none with areas such as a lovely sensory garden and trim trail.
Our boys loved every minute of their time at The Cottage and have such lovely memories of their time there - we only wish they could have stayed longer!

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2014

Hi, my name is Amy and I have worked at The Cottage since 2014.


I originally began my time here as a Nursery Deputy, before being promoted in 2015 to Nursery Manager. Since then we have had quite the journey - a pandemic included - where my role grew into the Business Manager of all three of our sites.


I have worked in nurseries for the majority of my life and I feel so privileged to work at a place like The Cottage. We strive to maintain the same level of outstanding care across all 3 of our sites and working closely together to share best practice, ideas and support where necessary.


You'll most likely hear from me about anything business related - policies, notifications, payments, billing, funding, booking patterns - you name it!


I'm always more than happy to help if you have any queries, I look forward to meeting you.
