The Cottage Day Nursery in Bedford Street, Derby, was established in 1990. It is a family-run business with nurseries based in Derby, Mickleover and Heanor. Bedford Street nursery is the largest in the group, with extensive facilities and age-specific playgrounds.

The baby and toddler unit is in its own building and comprises of a play room, dinner/art room, sensory room, sleep room, physical room and playground.

Main Nursery and Preschool (ages 2+) are on the opposite side of the road and are also in their own buildings. They share a vast playground which also consists of a sensory garden, vegetable garden, story area, indoor soft play area and indoor gym.

The staff have been amazing with my son especially with him having special needs and have placed equity over equality and always making sure each is a great day for him. The admin staff are always fabulous with parent communication and making sure the seating is perfect for all children irrespective
of their needs, you can always go to them with concerns and there is a ready response and open communication every time.
The entire team at The Cottage Day Nursery are very lovely, professional, ready to give care, adaptive and overall every member of staff welcomes both the children and parents with a wonderful smile every day and all the time.

Cannot rate this nursery more highly, they are brilliant.
From the beginning, they are supportive of getting you started. Both from a paperwork standpoint and getting your little one comfortable in their new environment.
The care the staff show the children is outstanding, our little one loves it
here.
The meals are varied with excellent nutritional balance.
At every stage you are kept up to date with what is going on with your little one day to day and the staff always make time to speak in more detail if needed. The senior staff are very accessible with any issues you may have and are very flexible so that you can ensure that what is best for your child is always at the forefront.
We could not have hoped to have found a better place to send our little one.
As an aside, is it excellent to see the dedication the nursery has to developing their staff and training new professionals.
It really comes across how passionate and motivated everyone who works there is.

This nursery was recommended by a friend to us. We enrolled our daughter since she was approx 7 -8 months old. I am grateful to have found a nursery that fits our needs so well! The food is excellent, children have many activities throughout the day and the nurture given is beyond excellent. Many thanks

Amazing nursery for both of my boys who have been all the way through the baby unit to preschool. The staff are so friendly and helpful and my boys really enjoy it at the Cottage Day Nursery. The food is nutritious and I think another bonus of this nursery, is that it has its own soft play too.

My little girl has attended The Cottage Nursery in Derby since she was 15 months old and I couldn't recommend this nursery enough! The facilities and environments that she has been able to explore are fantastic! She has just come home with a Christmas folder full of beautiful artwork and creations.
Every morning she walks in happy and smiling and it is rare that I ever pick her up and she is sad, or any of the children for that matter. I truly would recommend this nursery to anyone.

My son loved his time at The Cottage and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The facilities are fantastic, safe, clean and well organised. The people who work here are genuinely caring, nurturing and committed to finding innovative ways to build learning into play. The special events such as the Positive
Ponies visiting were very, very exciting! Importantly, I observed all the children being celebrated for who they are and every child being respected as an individual. Management's commitment to real inclusion stands out; by normalising difference and including and nurturing everyone they are setting an example that will help shape our future society.


I really can’t thank everyone at the Cottage enough for making my son’s preschool days such a lovely time!

This nursery is definitely deserving of its outstanding certificate. My son has been here since he was 18 months and he has grown and learned so much since being here, from the day he started he has shown a positive change. The team are so informative and shows genuine care for each child and their
progression. Even the girls in the office know the children. My son is very comfortable here and has grown a lot of confidence here.


I enjoy the detail on the Famly app which gives me peace of mind and allows the end-of-day catch-up to run smoothly. Also, the nursery's help with food allergies, preferences etc is amazing and it's reassuring to know that my son is being taken care of just as well as he would if he was at home! My son will definitely be here up until he has to go to school, I recommend anybody to come here.

My daughter has been to both The Cottage Day Nursery at Mickleover and on currently at Bedford Street and both have been fantastic! My little girl loves it there, they are very caring and have the kids out in the garden with the rabbit and chickens as much as possible. The food selection is great, and
the nursery is clean and well looked after. I would always highly recommend either of the nurseries.

Our son has settled in amazingly since starting in July 2023! He has always gone in happy and smiling apart from when he was feeling a little unwell. He adores all the staff in babies and toddlers and the office staff that help out in the evenings. We absolutely love the nursery just as much as our
son does! All staff at the nursery are brilliant, and it is always clean! It takes a lot of my mind knowing just how much our son is loved and cared for when he's away from! Fantastic Nursery!

A fantastic nursery that has been great over the past 2 years, we are sad to move away and miss out on our youngest following through as well.


Baby and toddler unit gave loads of variety in activities and environment as it had 4 rooms, plus a sleep room and garden to visit throughout the day.


The

main nursery has access to a soft play room and generous garden with climbing frame, bikes and ride-ons, a rabbit and other exploratory equipment. They really make the most of the outdoor facilities particularly over the long summer last year.


All the staff have been wonderful, fostering close key working relationships but also in the wider team. They worked with us on dietary needs due to allergies, looking for suitable alternatives so he didn't miss out. Great support and feedback throughout.


The management are visible and accessible and we've always felt comfortable asking questions. A wonderful nursery which we will miss, and will be hard to match in our new location.

Unit staff have always been fantastic. My daughter has had a great experience at The Cottage and I am sure she will miss it. It is clean and has great space both indoor and out. I would recommend.

The Cottage is an excellent nursery. The facilities are exceptional and the staff are friendly and attentive. My daughter is always excited about going to nursery, she's made lots of friends and they've been great at supporting her learning and development.


The toys are in great condition, the outdoor

play area is one of the best I've seen and they even have an indoor soft play area.

My daughter is been coming to The Cottage since she was a baby. She settled in beautifully and created some wonderful bonds with all the staff. They are always caring, attentive and gave so much support when I needed help with toilet training.


My daughter has since progressed through to the main

nursery and recently transitioned into the preschool room. It's has been amazing to watch how much she has learnt and progressed while having so much fun.


She thoroughly enjoys exploring the large garden, especially the sensory garden and taking care of the pet rabbit Sooty (so much she's convinced she's coming home with us).


I can't wait to watch her continue her journey with you. Thank you so much for everything you have done so far.

My son was there for about 3 years and is a child with special needs.
At this nursery he learned a lot of new things and he wasn't treated like a different child, for them he was a normal child and that was great.
My son received a lot of help, 1 to 1.

My little boy has been going to this nursery full-time since he was 10 months old. He's almost 3 years old now and thrives at the main nursery. He's made so many friends and absolutely enjoys story time, the outdoor playing and soft-play. The staff seem to be very friendly and caring and always give
him a warm welcome in the morning when I drop him off.


As with any toddlers, accidents can happen and the nursery has a proper documentation process and always keep us notified. At the end of every day, my little boy seems to be happy and almost every time I go to see him, he seems to be confidently and happily playing with toys or his friends.


I would definitely recommend Cottage Day Nursery to anyone.

My son started at pre-school when he was going through a separation anxiety phase. The staff were incredibly patient and kind with him and helped him to settle in really well. My son has enjoyed his time at The Cottage and the staff have always worked with me and kept me involved with all of his developments.
From his key worker to the other adults in his room, to the other staff, I have always had nothing but the kindest words and encouragement.


I would highly recommend The Cottage Day Nursery Derby to anyone. It is a fun environment with lots of learning opportunities. Thank you for all of your hard work. We are both very sad to be leaving you this summer!

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2014

Hi, my name is Amy and I have worked at The Cottage since 2014.


I originally began my time here as a Nursery Deputy, before being promoted in 2015 to Nursery Manager. Since then we have had quite the journey - a pandemic included - where my role grew into the Business Manager of all three of our sites.


I have worked in nurseries for the majority of my life and I feel so privileged to work at a place like The Cottage. We strive to maintain the same level of outstanding care across all 3 of our sites and working closely together to share best practice, ideas and support where necessary.


You'll most likely hear from me about anything business related - policies, notifications, payments, billing, funding, booking patterns - you name it!


I'm always more than happy to help if you have any queries, I look forward to meeting you.
