The Cottage Day Nursery in Bedford Street, Derby, was established in 1990. It is a family-run business with nurseries based in Derby, Mickleover and Heanor. Bedford Street nursery is the largest in the group, with extensive facilities and age-specific playgrounds.

The baby and toddler unit is in its own building and comprises of a play room, dinner/art room, sensory room, sleep room, physical room and playground.

Main Nursery and Preschool (ages 2+) are on the opposite side of the road and are also in their own buildings. They share a vast playground which also consists of a sensory garden, vegetable garden, story area, indoor soft play area and indoor gym.

My son was at this nursery for a year until we moved away from the area and I have nothing but praise to give all the nursery staff when he first started going to nursery he was behind in a lot of things other children were doing at his age and within months of being there he was ahead of most! He went
from being mute to singing all day and night I absolutely love this nursery and if I was ever to move back to the area would love to come back

From my Son starting in babies all the way through to preschool his whole experience has been incredible. He has learnt so much and come one with his development so well. The staff are fabulous and look after the children with great care and attention. My son absolutely loves going and I never have
issues dropping him off and always happy when I pick him up. He has been set up ready for school well and I have enrolled my daughter to start here when I return to work. Wouldn't consider anywhere else.

My daughter has been attending The Cottage Day Nursery since she was just 1 year old. Like many little ones, she found the early days challenging and cried a lot at first. But the baby unit team were absolutely fantastic - they showed such patience, care, and emotional support, helping her settle in
gently and feel safe and loved.


Now, at 2 years and 3 months, she's moved into the main nursery and goes in with a big smile, excited to play with her friends. It's such a joy to see how happy and confident she is.


I want to give a huge thank you to every single member of staff at The Cottage Day Nursery. It's all the little things you do - the smiles, the cuddles, the creativity, and the reassurance - that make such a big difference. You've made it so much easier for us as parents to leave our child each day, knowing she's in truly trustworthy and caring hands.

If you're looking for a nursery that goes above & beyond, then look no further.
The incredible staff have been dedicated to my sons development & he's come on tremendously. His confidence & abilities are improving every week.
They show a genuine interest in what my son's been getting up to outside
of nursery too so they can continue to support his learning whilst with them.
Every morning my son's excited to go in, he giggles, claps his hands & sings in the car. I really couldn't have asked for a better nursery to send him to. We're heartbroken that he won't be able to continue his learning here as we're moving, but even then the childcare manager has been assisting us with finding a nursery in our new area! This goes to show how invested they are in ensuring my son has the best start in life be it with them or another nursery. Every staff member is caring, encouraging, dedicated, trustworthy, patient, supportive & attentive. The list could go on. Thank you for caring for my boy xx

My daughter has been attending The Cottage in Bedford Street Derby for almost 6 months now. Since starting at The Cottage my wife and I have watched our daughter come along leaps and bounds in terms of her development, speech, counting, socialising with other kids and more. She comes home and tells
us all about her day and how great a time she has had and what she's been doing. The staff are all wonderful and are clearly very interested in the development of all the children under their care. They have been very helpful at both guiding and supporting us all during periods of transition like toilet training for instance. I'd highly recommend The Cottage on Bedford Street if you need a great nursery that you can trust to take care of your little ones.

Hi, my name is Amy and I have worked at The Cottage since 2014.


I originally began my time here as a Nursery Deputy, before being promoted in 2015 to Nursery Manager. Since then we have had quite the journey - a pandemic included - where my role grew into the Business Manager of all three of our sites.


I have worked in nurseries for the majority of my life and I feel so privileged to work at a place like The Cottage. We strive to maintain the same level of outstanding care across all 3 of our sites and working closely together to share best practice, ideas and support where necessary.


You'll most likely hear from me about anything business related - policies, notifications, payments, billing, funding, booking patterns - you name it!
