Bright Kids At Northfield in South Birmingham was established in 2004 when the two adjacent spacious semi-detached Victorian houses were fully renovated to provide ample space for children to learn and play in their small homely age group. The nursery is well-positioned close to local schools and amenities.

The nursery has an excellent outdoor play space with defined areas for climbing, growing, and creative play in addition to the traditional hard-play surfaces. This 'all-weather' outdoor area ensures access is possible all year round. With a mini-forest school planned for the future, this will become a 'natural haven' for the nursery children within the city.

With a philosophy of learning through play, children work and play together in small groups to develop skills and knowledge to become independent learners for life. Working with the new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum under the guidance of their own fully qualified Early Years Professional.

Our son is currently at Bright kids and loves it here. The staff are brilliant and accommodating and he is flourishing. Nothing is too much trouble and they have great activities and events throughout the year to include the parents. I wholeheartedly recommend Bright kids to any parent looking for
a safe and nurturing environment for their child.

We have had the most fantastic experience since joining Bright Kids Northfield around 6 months ago. We previously used a childminder however the difference is unbelieveable. So many fantastic activities for the kids to do, really caring and supportive staff. We get regular updates as to what our son
is up to.
As an example we very recently tried to potty train our son (quite early at 18 months), they were very accomodating even though he was very much struggling - the staff did everything they could to support us!
Could not reccomend this nursery highly enough.

Bright Kids have been a kind, welcoming and supportive environment for our daughter. She has grown so much personally and emotionally since starting at Bright Kids 2 years ago. Our daughter has made strong relationships with both staff and other children. The communication with staff is always done

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Bright Kids Northfield. From the moment we first visited, we instantly knew this is where we wanted our little girl to go.


Our little girl did get upset at drop offs but we changed to door drop offs, suggested by the Nursery, which did work much better.

Whenever we picked her up she'd always tell us what a lovely day she had so we knew she enjoyed it there.


The nursery environment is bright, safe, and engaging, with a wonderful balance of learning and play. We've been especially impressed by the variety of activities that encourage creativity, independence, and social skills. It has really set her up well for school.


Communication was great with updates throughout the day (via an app). There were also learning journals so we always felt informed about our child's progress and day-to-day experiences.


The staff are all amazing, so patient, and attentive, and it's clear they truly love what they do. Would 100% recommend.

Our little one has attended for a few weeks and we are really happy with Bright Kids. The staff are friendly and helpful, they listen and communicate well and we feel that our little one is getting good care and enjoying his time at nursery. We get regular updates and know he is looked after well whilst
enjoying a variety of activities to help him develop. We don't have any complaints and our little one is really coming on. Would recommend this nursery.

My son started this nursery with the worst separation anxiety, he would scream and cry and overall, make me feel like the worst person in the world for leaving him but thanks to the most amazing team of staff who showed him so much patience, he found a way to settle. Both he and myself have had such
a positive, supported experience from everyone in the nursery. The development in him since he started two years ago has been phenomenal and I'll be so sad and yet grateful for the two years he has spent there when he leaves.
I couldn't recommend anywhere else but Bright Kids to anyone looking for a nursery.

I've worked in many nurseries so know what I'm looking for, I sent my little boy here from a recommendation and glad I did. All the staff are lovely and very helpful, any problems I've had have been dealt with quickly, really supportive in children's development. A good rundown of the day that they've
had, my boy is very shy and doesn't like leaving me but I know once he's in he's happy and has a good day. Management is always happy and very helpful.

My experiences with Bright Kids have always been brilliant. My daughter has attended since April 2023 starting out in the toddler room and then onto the preschool room.
The staff are always interacting and playing alongside the children and making sure their needs are met.
The activities and planning
around the children's learning pathways are excellent and my little girl has always had such fun and enjoyed her day.
The mealtimes and snacks are all very well balanced and varied to suit children's individual dietary needs. This has had such a positive impact on my daughter becoming less fussy and eating a wider range of foods.
The rooms are well-organised and interesting for the children and the outdoor spaces and garden are fantastic. I can confidently recommend Bright Kids to parents/carers who are looking for a wonderful nursery setting. A great nursery, a wonderful team and a lovely environment for children.

My daughter attended this nursery for one year. The fees were paid in full and in advance until April 2024, when I received government funding that reduced the cost. In May 2024, I withdrew my child. As of July 2024, this nursery has continued to claim my daughter's funding. This is despite my daughter
not being in attendance, them being asked not to and the council's confirmation that the funding could be used elsewhere. They have held the funding ransom in the belief they are owed money. They were paid for every holiday, training day, closure, and when my child was off ill. They were paid for every day my child attended. They are money grabbers and should be ashamed of themselves for denying an infant's place. Much of the funding for 2-year-olds is for the most deprived children.
Shame on them. I am sorry for the carers here, who are pretty good, and I regret my daughter had to leave them. Management needs to rethink its approach. It's an unfortunate stain on their reputation.

Staff are lovely and friendly and feel comfortable to leave my child in their care. Updates are provided throughout the day or as soon as they leave so we know what they have been doing. Loads of different activities, both indoors and outdoors. Good option of food throughout the day. Workshops for parents/carers
to attend throughout the year.

I have loved this nursery since I had my second child when I paid a visit and they didn’t have any places. I always had it on my top 5 and I was so happy to stumble on it again with my son. Absolutely lovely, clean and most of all so good for him and is an educational journey for soft play, and interactive
role-play. He loves every bit and the staff are very professional at all times. Highly recommend.

Our daughter has been at Bright Kids since February 2022 and we think they've done a fab job with her. She had an unsettled start and the staff did everything possible to make it easier for her. My daughter has been at nursery for a while now and she adores it, the staff are the kindest people ever and couldn't find anywhere better. The handovers are lovely and take the stress from my partner and me in how our child is. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) are a lovely team, before
and after my daughter had been diagnosed with anything and I can trust they will help all the children. The staff treat us lovely even when I'm on a breakdown of tears they relieve me from any stress. I do recommend the nursery and the help the staff gives me and my family.

We have used this nursery for more than 2 years and will continue to use it as our family grows. Our son has built strong relationships with staff and the other children at Bright Kids. Staffing has been consistent over the last 2 years with a low staff turnover. The staff are a real asset to the nursery,
they are so enthusiastic, patient and caring.
Our son has been well supported in learning key skills including toilet training, using cutlery, being kind to others and saying please and thank you.
We love the big garden and the children get really excited about nature and the animals they come across (squirrels and hedgehogs). Improvements are often made to the outdoor area to make it even better.
Our son has always been well cared for and communication with home is good. We like the size of the nursery, even when our son was in the baby room the staff all knew him.
The option of early drop off at 7:30 am and collection until 6 pm is also very useful for fitting around work.

My little boy only started a few months ago, but already I can see that the team here are just amazing. My son has social and communication delays, trust issues and anxiety, plus he requires a little extra supervision for his safety. The two main people in his room are so lovely, they get very excited
to tell me how he's progressed that day and celebrate the small wins with me, which really means a lot. I honestly couldn't ask for a better team to look after him. It's only been 3 months but already I'm seeing positive changes in his development and I genuinely think it's because the team are so patient and understanding of his needs.

Bright Kids is a wonderful nursery, the staff are brilliant with the children and they have helped my son with his speech and confidence so much.
The setting is very safe and secure, they have so many different toys and resources for the children, and so many different activities that help the children
learn as well as have fun playing. The garden is large and full of fun and safe toys for the children - my son loves being outside.
They have helped my family through some difficult times, being very supportive, kind and caring.
We've used Bright Kids for several years as my daughter also attended before she started school. I'd definitely recommend them to any parent looking for childcare for their children.

Janette Moran

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2014

I began my career in 1992 when I became a parent volunteer in a nursery school. I’ve progressed to gaining my qualifications in childcare as well as education starting in 1996. In October 2013 I gained my BA Hons and in addition in February 2014 I qualified as an Early Years Teacher Status. I have collectively worked in both childcare and education for 26 years as well as raising my own four children. I’ve currently have thirteen grandchildren.


I immensely enjoy working with children and families and feel I have a lot of experience and knowledge to share. I’m really enjoying my time here at the Bright Kids Nursery Northfield where I can work alongside my team to ensure children in our care have the best possible childcare and education in a play based curriculum to support the children’s progression into school and build on their life skills.


The bright sunny rooms with stimulating activities encourage our children to be independent, critical thinkers, creative and challenge their skills and development. I am proud to be part of the Bright Kids Team.

I started my career at Bright Kids Nursery Northfield as a student in June 2005. In 2006 when I qualified as Level 3 in childcare I was employed as club staff and Nursery Nurse. My career progressed to Room Leader and then to Senior Nursery Nurse.


Becoming Deputy Manager in 2014, I fully enjoy my role, and have achieved many childcare related qualifications.


I love being a mom to my two children and enjoy working with children and their families, supporting them and watching their children grow and develop.


As a long-standing member of the Bright Kids team I am very proud of what I and also what we have achieved here at Bright Kids Northfield.
