The city setting opens into a generous all-weather garden, with defined areas for climbing, growing, creating and energetic play. Natural spaces, planting and opportunities to encounter wildlife give children their own little haven within Birmingham, where they can dig, build, investigate and notice the changing seasons throughout the year.
Inside, children are surrounded by open-ended materials, authentic objects and familiar items from everyday life. They might pour from a real teapot, investigate household tools, create with loose parts or serve themselves at mealtimes using crockery and cutlery. These experiences invite richer play while building coordination, confidence, responsibility and independence.
Learning at Northfield begins with curiosity. Practitioners notice the questions, fascinations and ideas children bring into nursery, then create experiences that help them think more deeply, develop language, solve problems and test out their own ideas. Children are encouraged to become active participants in their day rather than being shown what to do.
Bright Kids Northfield provides care from six weeks to school age and is open from 7.30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, for 51 weeks of the year. Flexible and part-time attendance options are available, with nutritious hot meals and snacks included.
Families are invited to visit, meet the long-standing team and discover a nursery where children are given space to wonder, explore and grow.

Our 2.5 year old son attends bright kids and has done since he was 9 months old, he started off doing a couple of mornings to settle him in and then we built him up to 2 full days over a year.

Our 2.5 year old son attends bright kids and has done since he was 9 months old, he started off doing a couple of mornings to settle him in and then we built him up to 2 full days over a year. I've found the staff to be warm, friendly and open. They are supportive and really understanding especially with a parent like me, I was very cautious about sending him and I often rang for updates when he first started. As time has gone on he's settled well and I love the activities they do with the children, the feel of the nursery inside is so nice, and the garden is phenomenal, such an engaging space with so many areas to explore! In the recent heat wave we've been amazed at the resilience and professionalism of the staff when it must be so hard keeping the children entertained and cool at the same time.
I highly recommend this nursery, we love it there.

We have had the most fantastic experience since joining Bright Kids Northfield around 6 months ago. We previously used a childminder however the difference is unbelieveable. So many fantastic activities for the kids to do, really caring and supportive staff. We get regular updates as to what our son is up to. As an example we very recently tried to potty train our son (quite early at 18 months), they were very accomodating even though he was very much struggling - the staff did everything they could to support us!
Could not reccomend this nursery highly enough.

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Bright Kids Northfield. From the moment we first visited, we instantly knew this is where we wanted our little girl to go.
Our little girl did get upset at drop offs but we changed to door drop offs, suggested by the Nursery, which did work much better. Whenever we picked her up she'd always tell us what a lovely day she had so we knew she enjoyed it there.
The nursery environment is bright, safe, and engaging, with a wonderful balance of learning and play. We've been especially impressed by the variety of activities that encourage creativity, independence, and social skills. It has really set her up well for school.
Communication was great with updates throughout the day (via an app). There were also learning journals so we always felt informed about our child's progress and day-to-day experiences.
The staff are all amazing, so patient, and attentive, and it's clear they truly love what they do. Would 100% recommend.

My son started this nursery with the worst separation anxiety, he would scream and cry and overall, make me feel like the worst person in the world for leaving him but thanks to the most amazing team of staff who showed him so much patience, he found a way to settle. Both he and myself have had such a positive, supported experience from everyone in the nursery. The development in him since he started two years ago has been phenomenal and I'll be so sad and yet grateful for the two years he has spent there when he leaves.
I couldn't recommend anywhere else but Bright Kids to anyone looking for a nursery.

My experiences with Bright Kids have always been brilliant. My daughter has attended since April 2023 starting out in the toddler room and then onto the preschool room. The staff are always interacting and playing alongside the children and making sure their needs are met. The activities and planning around the children's learning pathways are excellent and my little girl has always had such fun and enjoyed her day. The mealtimes and snacks are all very well balanced and varied to suit children's individual dietary needs. This has had such a positive impact on my daughter becoming less fussy and eating a wider range of foods.
The rooms are well-organised and interesting for the children and the outdoor spaces and garden are fantastic. I can confidently recommend Bright Kids to parents/carers who are looking for a wonderful nursery setting. A great nursery, a wonderful team and a lovely environment for children.

My daughter attended this nursery for one year. The fees were paid in full and in advance until April 2024, when I received government funding that reduced the cost. In May 2024, I withdrew my child. As of July 2024, this nursery has continued to claim my daughter's funding. This is despite my daughter not being in attendance, them being asked not to and the council's confirmation that the funding could be used elsewhere. They have held the funding ransom in the belief they are owed money. They were paid for every holiday, training day, closure, and when my child was off ill. They were paid for every day my child attended. They are money grabbers and should be ashamed of themselves for denying an infant's place. Much of the funding for 2-year-olds is for the most deprived children.
Shame on them. I am sorry for the carers here, who are pretty good, and I regret my daughter had to leave them. Management needs to rethink its approach. It's an unfortunate stain on their reputation.

NM, Thank you for highlighting this in a review of us at Day Nurseries. I am glad that you were happy with the care and that your little one received saying our carers are 'pretty good'. We also find them to be an exceptional team of carers and I know your child had a lovely time with us. As you know when you informed us on 10 June that you had already left we sent you an email, asking you for details so that we could follow the local authority funding protocols - the termly funding was already paid so there was nothing more to claim by us. We wrote again on 17 & 20 June, and still to this date (August) we have not had any response from you. We need you to contact us in order for us to hand over the funding. It is an established protocol that we have to follow, with guidance from the local authority, in order to do this. We are happy to pay over monies to other nurseries when this is instigated by the parents, but we do need you as the parent to actually talk to us direct, so please do.

I have loved this nursery since I had my second child when I paid a visit and they didn’t have any places. I always had it on my top 5 and I was so happy to stumble on it again with my son. My daughter has been at nursery for a while now and she adores it, the staff are the kindest people ever and couldn't find anywhere better. The handovers are lovely and take the stress from my partner and me in how our child is. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) are a lovely team, before and after my daughter had been diagnosed with anything and I can trust they will help all the children. The staff treat us lovely even when I'm on a breakdown of tears they relieve me from any stress. I do recommend the nursery and the help the staff gives me and my family.

We have used this nursery for more than 2 years and will continue to use it as our family grows. Our son has built strong relationships with staff and the other children at Bright Kids. Staffing has been consistent over the last 2 years with a low staff turnover. The staff are a real asset to the nursery, they are so enthusiastic, patient and caring. Our son has been well supported in learning key skills including toilet training, using cutlery, being kind to others and saying please and thank you. We love the big garden and the children get really excited about nature and the animals they come across (squirrels and hedgehogs). Improvements are often made to the outdoor area to make it even better. Our son has always been well cared for and communication with home is good. We like the size of the nursery, even when our son was in the baby room the staff all knew him.
The option of early drop off at 7:30 am and collection until 6 pm is also very useful for fitting around work.

My little boy only started a few months ago, but already I can see that the team here are just amazing. My son has social and communication delays, trust issues and anxiety, plus he requires a little extra supervision for his safety. The two main people in his room are so lovely, they get very excited to tell me how he's progressed that day and celebrate the small wins with me, which really means a lot. I honestly couldn't ask for a better team to look after him. It's only been 3 months but already I'm seeing positive changes in his development and I genuinely think it's because the team are so patient and understanding of his needs.

Janette began her early years journey in 1992 as a parent volunteer in a nursery school, which inspired her to build a career supporting children and families. From 1996, she began completing qualifications across childcare and education, later achieving a BA Honours degree in October 2013 and gaining Early Years Teacher Status in February 2014.
Throughout her career, she has worked across both childcare and education, bringing many years of experience alongside the personal insight she has gained from raising four children of her own and now being a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren(!)
Janette has always found it incredibly rewarding to work with children and their families, and she enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with the team at Bright Kids Northfield. She is committed to ensuring every child receives high-quality care and education through a play-based curriculum that supports their development, builds essential life skills and prepares them for the transition to school.
She said: "Our curious and inspiring environment is designed to create moments of awe and wonder, encouraging children to explore, investigate and follow their own interests. Kerrie's journey with Bright Kids Northfield began in June 2005, when she joined the nursery as a student. After qualifying with her Level 3 in Childcare in 2006, she became a permanent member of the team, initially working across both the nursery (and, at the time, out-of-school club).
Over the years, she has progressed through a variety of roles, including Nursery Nurse, Room Leader and Senior Nursery Nurse, before becoming Deputy Nursery Manager in 2014. She has continued to build her knowledge through a wide range of childcare-related qualifications and values every opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.
As a mum of two, Kerrie understands how important it is for families to feel confident that their child is known, cared for and supported as an individual. She loves building strong relationships with children and their families and feels incredibly privileged to watch children grow in confidence throughout their time with us.
She said: "Having been part of Bright Kids Northfield for so many years, I am extremely proud of everything the nursery and team have achieved. It is very special to have grown within the setting myself while helping generations of children and families feel welcomed, supported and part of our community."
