Established in 2004, the nursery is set in South Birmingham, close to local schools, amenities and Northfield Station. Each age group has its own thoughtfully arranged rooms, helping babies, toddlers and preschool children feel secure while giving them space to explore at their own pace.
The city setting opens into a generous all-weather garden, with defined areas for climbing, growing, creating and energetic play. Natural spaces, planting and opportunities to encounter wildlife give children their own little haven within Birmingham, where they can dig, build, investigate and notice the changing seasons throughout the year.
Inside, children are surrounded by open-ended materials, authentic objects and familiar items from everyday life. They might pour from a real teapot, investigate household tools, create with loose parts or serve themselves at mealtimes using crockery and cutlery. These experiences invite richer play while building coordination, confidence, responsibility and independence.
Learning at Northfield begins with curiosity. Practitioners notice the questions, fascinations and ideas children bring into nursery, then create experiences that help them think more deeply, develop language, solve problems and test out their own ideas. Children are encouraged to become active participants in their day rather than being shown what to do.
Bright Kids Northfield provides care from six weeks to school age and is open from 7.30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, for 51 weeks of the year. Flexible and part-time attendance options are available, with nutritious hot meals and snacks included.
Families are invited to visit, meet the long-standing team and discover a nursery where children are given space to wonder, explore and grow.

I couldn't of picked a better nursery for my daughter! The staff are all amazing and had a great relationship with my daughter, she knew all the staff by name and was never afraid to approach them which is so important!
They really got to know my daughter and encouraged her interests (and the garden is amazing which was very important to her!). In all of the time she spent there I can honestly says I didn't have any problems.
I would highly recommend this nursery to everybody!

I'm so pleased that I chose Bright Kids Northfield as my boys' nursery. The staff really helped the boys to settle in quickly and have always been very kind and caring. I've had no safeguarding issues whatsoever and they seem to have very rigorous policies in place and enforced such as no mobile phone use on site. Communication is very good with regular newsletters and they've also held parents' mornings which have been lovely and really enjoyable. The boys have really developed in their literacy and numeracy since being there and their confidence has also grown; it's clear that their key workers know them well. The online learning journal is great as you receive regular updates on their progress. Most importantly, the boys have really enjoyed their time there and will miss going once they start at school.

I found Bright Kids Northfield to be very welcoming, all of the staff are friendly and approachable. My daughter started in January 2015 as a shy quiet little girl, she has just graduated as a very confident little lady. I cannot thank the staff at Bright Kids enough for their support and teaching ability to bring that confidence out in her. I am sad that my daughters journey here has come to an end, as she thoroughly enjoyed every moment she spent here.

Janette began her early years journey in 1992 as a parent volunteer in a nursery school, which inspired her to build a career supporting children and families. From 1996, she began completing qualifications across childcare and education, later achieving a BA Honours degree in October 2013 and gaining Early Years Teacher Status in February 2014.
Throughout her career, she has worked across both childcare and education, bringing many years of experience alongside the personal insight she has gained from raising four children of her own and now being a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren(!)
Janette has always found it incredibly rewarding to work with children and their families, and she enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with the team at Bright Kids Northfield. She is committed to ensuring every child receives high-quality care and education through a play-based curriculum that supports their development, builds essential life skills and prepares them for the transition to school.
She said: "Our curious and inspiring environment is designed to create moments of awe and wonder, encouraging children to explore, investigate and follow their own interests. Through meaningful experiences and carefully considered opportunities, we support children to become independent, creative and confident thinkers who are willing to challenge themselves and develop new skills."

Kerrie's journey with Bright Kids Northfield began in June 2005, when she joined the nursery as a student. After qualifying with her Level 3 in Childcare in 2006, she became a permanent member of the team, initially working across both the nursery (and, at the time, out-of-school club).
Over the years, she has progressed through a variety of roles, including Nursery Nurse, Room Leader and Senior Nursery Nurse, before becoming Deputy Nursery Manager in 2014. She has continued to build her knowledge through a wide range of childcare-related qualifications and values every opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.
As a mum of two, Kerrie understands how important it is for families to feel confident that their child is known, cared for and supported as an individual. She loves building strong relationships with children and their families and feels incredibly privileged to watch children grow in confidence throughout their time with us.
She said: "Having been part of Bright Kids Northfield for so many years, I am extremely proud of everything the nursery and team have achieved. It is very special to have grown within the setting myself while helping generations of children and families feel welcomed, supported and part of our community."
