Both my boys currently attend this nursery. My eldest is 26months, my younger 5 months. It is incredibly difficult to place your tiny baby in the care of others, but both my boys started at 4 months old and couldn't have been better cared for. My eldest has developed so much confidence and has a fantastic
imagination from all the role play games. Old School Nursery is a truly special place.

A wonderful nursery!

Moved our child here from another nursery nearby that was no good. This one is a real gem! The staff are lovely - caring, skilled and really good at handling all the usual issues of growing up (from tantrums, feeding themselves, to potty training!). They are well organised, the

day is structured and when the weather is dry there is large outside play area. If you are looking for a good nursery this one is wonderful! Don't be put off by the location which for some is a little out of the way - it's the staff and quality of care that your child will get that matters most!

My daughter has been at the Old Station Nursery since February this year and she loves every second she's there. She has so much fun and gets to do so many activities...she especially loves messy play and water play and constantly comes home looking like she's had an amazing day including shoes full
of sand! I'm so pleased we chose this nursery and my daughter would go everyday if we allowed her. She now eats food she wouldn't try before and always has a delicious home cooked hot meal. She's made some wonderful friends and continues to develop into a very confident and outgoing little girl. I especially love the tapestry journal and the thorough handover at the end of the day hearing of how much of a fun day she's had. I'm sure our new little baby that's on the way will join there too.

Thanks again Old Station Nursery and the wonderful staff

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.964)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.964) out of 10 for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (405 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 420 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 number of registered child places is 11.8, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

After 7 years working as a nanny and child minder in the USA and UK I decided I wanted to work in a Nursery environment gaining qualifications in Early Years. It soon became apparent that the Nurseries I worked in did not provide the very best quality childcare and I decided to open my own. After gaining a Diploma in Business Studies in 2002 I opened the doors to The Old School Nursery with three children and six full time staff.

We have now created a ‘home away from home environment.’ where your precious little ones will learn, grow, flourish and be loved and cherished. With 25 amazing, highly experienced and qualified staff we will do all we can to support you and your child during your journey with us.

I am incredibly proud of what we do at The Old School Nursery and the difference we make to the lives of children at such an important stage of their development.

Job Title: Early Years Educator and Music Teacher Joined: 2016

I have been working in Child Care since 2002 when the youngest of my own three children went to school. I ran a Pre School for 7 years in Milton Abbas during which time I completed my Foundation Degree in Early Years.

I have a passion for music; I play many instruments and write my own music too. I strongly believe that music has magical qualities and can be used very effectively to enhance children's learning. Children naturally love music and the benefits to their development in communication language and literacy are huge.

I love the fun that the children bring. Watching them learn and progress is extremely rewarding. Conversations can be funny, frustrating and magical all at once! Children are very special.

Working at The Old School is a pleasure. The children are the most important consideration and their needs always come first.
