Ofsted rating for Co-op Childcare's Bristol Nursery is Good (April 2023)

Located next door to Bristol Temple Meads train station, Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Bristol boasts tons of character! They partner up with parents by regularly asking for their feedback through questionnaires and parent meetings as you’re the most important person in your child’s life.

They know that little things can make a big difference, so they make sure to give children lots of hands-on experiences. They have areas for growing food (and eating it), make regular visits to local care homes and focus on doing their bit for the environment.

Your child will learn all about the environment and the community through a global eco-schools programme which will make them become a real environmental champion!

The nursery goes above and beyond for safety which is why ALL staff are paediatric first-aid trained. They have 5 Little Pioneers who help share their core values with the children and encourage them to make their own choices, express their feelings and make a difference in the world.

They have a Parent-Zone app which keeps you informed about what your child has been up to all day including observations, assessments, meals, and even toilet training progress!

I have always had a very positive relationship with staff members, they always make my son feel very welcome and on days when he does not really feel like going, they always take their time settling him.
He has a lovely bond with his room adults and loves talking about them and his day when he comes
home.

A wonderful nursery with fantastic, friendly staff. My son has been at the nursery since October 2022 and he absolutely adores it! I cannot fault it. Thank you to all the staff for all their hard work. I would definitely recommend the nursery.

Excellent childcare setting. Warm, friendly and really knowledgeable staff, very inviting environment with fantastic resources. Great food and amazing communication with both management and the staff in the room. My daughter is so happy here and is excited every day to come to the nursery. The staff
always take the time to make her feel special and have really taken the time to get to know us as a family. They've really supported her confidence and development.

My daughter has been diagnosed with Autism recently and she has been attending this nursery for the past 2 years. Her progress has been carefully monitored and adjusted according to her needs. Staff are very helpful, friendly and always there for the kids! The nursery is well-equipped!

We absolutely love this nursery. All the staff are always really kind and enthusiastic. You can tell they truly take the time to get to know the children and their personalities. They always give fun updates at the end of the day about what our son has been up to. They always come up with fun activities
and send photos of the different sensory trays they create each day.

My daughters have been attending the nursery for 2 years and I can't recommend it highly enough. The girls are so well looked after. All the staff have been fantastic. I was anxious about leaving them but the care they get and the fun they have put me at ease immediately. One of my daughters struggled
a bit more with the separation from me and the help the staff gave her was above & beyond. They were great. The office staff are also brilliant and so helpful.

My son has attended this nursery since March, and really settled in, staff are always lovely, and he really seems to enjoy his days there. He has since moved to the toddler room and all has gone smoothly. The updates on the app are great and really help settle any nerves about how their day is going.

We always feel like our little one is well looked after. They have fun and come back with stories of what they have done that day. We're well informed through the parent app and we receive a good handover at the end of each day. We also find they get a good variety of food - sometimes I'm jealous! Each
room has an outside area connected to the rooms which is a big plus. My little one always comes home with new words, facts or songs so we know they are learning and developing well. My only wish is that they would come home with more arts and crafts to pin on the fridge.

Wonderful nursery and the staff are so warm and welcoming. We were worried about how our one-year-old son would settle into the nursery with new people and the environment - as all parents do. But this worry soon faded when we knew he was in the safe hands of people who really seem to care about the
kids, giving thorough updates on how he gets on each day.
Always get lovely pictures and updates of what they get up to each day, as well, which puts our minds at ease that he is well entertained and learning new things.

Absolutely wonderful nursery. The staff are very attentive and my son settled in very quickly and seems happy and cared for.
They provide regular, daily updates so that I know what his diet is like, development, next steps and pictures so that I can keep up to date whilst at work.
Lovely place and
highly recommend!

We found this nursery through word of mouth and have been recommending it ever since. Our little one has been going for two and a bit years and has loved every minute of it. The care provided is exceptional, as is the communication between the staff and the parents. As with all toddlers, we have had
times where there were behavioural issues that needed correcting, and it has always felt like the staff were happy to work with us to solve the problem. We could not imagine a better place for our child.

My daughter started here in August and has settled in so well. I was so anxious about her starting and leaving her, but she is so well taken care of and now happily waves goodbye to me when I drop her off. She has so much fun and I couldn’t ask for more.

My little girl has been attending the nursery for nine months and though it has been a difficult time with all of the restrictions in relation to Covid, the staff have all been incredible! She has settled really well and I find so much comfort in knowing that she is cared for as well as she would be
if she were home with me!
The staff are always available if I have any questions and I love the updates throughout the day as it makes me feel like I’m not missing out on anything.
Thank you all so much for all your hard work!

Our daughter has attended Little Pioneers - Co-op Childcare Day Nursery since she turned one. She has flourished since she has been there, forming strong bonds with every key worker she has had and other staff members too. It is lovely when I collect her and everyone seems to know her and say hello.
She is always coming home having learnt something new and we are so pleased with the progress she has made, especially with her vocabulary. The children seem to take part in a wide range of activities throughout the day and we love to see the updates provided throughout the day on the app which gives us peace of mind. The nursery engages well with parents and we appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback especially at the parent’s meetings. We would recommend the nursery to anyone.

This nursery is fantastic, the care and detail they provide for my son is outstanding. My son goes in every day with a smile on his face and excited to see the staff and his friends. The meals prepared in the on-sight kitchen are of fantastic quality and great diversity from all areas of the world,
he always has seconds. The planning and observations we receive are always tailored to really progress and support my son's development. They always listen to us as parents and use us as a key way to ensure my son is well looked after and challenged in a proactive way. They are definitely part of the family and dropping him off is easy. The management team always go above and beyond to answer and help with any questions or queries without any issues or hesitance. With Covid they have put so many measures in place to ensure my child and their staff are safe and I feel at ease in the middle of the pandemic with this. I cannot fault this nursery in any way and would 100% recommend this nursery.

My little one started attending this nursery at eleven months old in the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown, with us handing her to the staff at the door. It has been hard for us to trust the nursery without seeing staff interacting with babies, during their normal opening times before lockdown you would
have seen this. Fortunately, our girl has seemed to have settled in okay and staff are always friendly and very helpful, updating the app and answering phones, letting us know how she is doing. Overall, we were really happy with everything until we have found out that in this nursery, unlike any other nursery in Bristol and I have contacted quite a few others to check, was wearing masks within the bubbles when interacting and taking care of babies. From my research the government advice was to form bubbles in order to avoid wearing the masks as it could have a negative impact on children's mental, social and language development. Because of this, sadly we will be looking into moving our baby into a different nursery.
Reply from Shannon Marshall, Deputy Manager at Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, BristolThank you for your feedback. We understand starting during the Covid-19 pandemic is unsettling for parents and we have been updating the app with extra photos of the children and the rooms set up to ensure parents have an insight inside during the day. Current guidance from the DFE advises that in early years, face masks should be worn by adults "in situations where social distancing is not possible". Our staff try to maintain a 2m distance from each other and the decision was made to wear face masks throughout the day to minimize risks. Times when staff do not wear masks are when they are outdoors, and when they are engaged in activities 1-2-1 or stories. We considered impact on development and we have monitored this using observations and assessments but have specifically analysed the assessments with the impact of face masks and staff have not reported any children to be scared, wary or nervous of interaction with staff wearing face masks.

The nursery team are so dedicated and hardworking, particularly during Covid, which has been so challenging. We always receive clear communications when things change and the team are quick to respond to any individual queries. My daughter has attended since she was 10 months old and is a happy soul.
She sings songs at home that she's learned at nursery and always goes in and comes out with a smile on her face.

The Co-op Childcare Bristol (Little Pioneers) nursery is an amazing nursery, and I would highly recommend bringing your little one here.
We moved from abroad and when we knew we were coming to Bristol our number one priority was finding a nursery. I reached out to a number of nurseries, and Little
Pioneers immediately gave us such a great feeling and we felt our son would just love it there. We didn't need to look any further. They were so accommodating around the start dates, as we had some last-minute changes with Covid and the travel quarantine when coming here. There was additional stress on the whole move, but the fact that the nursery was sorted, gave us peace of mind.
Everyone at nursery is absolutely lovely and kind. Our son absolutely loves it there. He runs in eagerly every day. They do so many different activities with them and the dinner plans look delish (and our son eats seconds of almost all, so he would agree it seems).
Overall: it's a lovely and safe place, with lovely people!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.821) out of 10 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Bristol is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Bristol is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 240 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Bristol is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 number of registered child places is 18.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
