Ofsted rating for Co-op Childcare's Bristol Nursery is Good (April 2023)

Located next door to Bristol Temple Meads train station, Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Bristol boasts tons of character! They partner up with parents by regularly asking for their feedback through questionnaires and parent meetings as you’re the most important person in your child’s life.

They know that little things can make a big difference, so they make sure to give children lots of hands-on experiences. They have areas for growing food (and eating it), make regular visits to local care homes and focus on doing their bit for the environment.

Your child will learn all about the environment and the community through a global eco-schools programme which will make them become a real environmental champion!

The nursery goes above and beyond for safety which is why ALL staff are paediatric first-aid trained. They have 5 Little Pioneers who help share their core values with the children and encourage them to make their own choices, express their feelings and make a difference in the world.

They have a Parent-Zone app which keeps you informed about what your child has been up to all day including observations, assessments, meals, and even toilet training progress!

My son has felt at home since joining Little Pioneers. The staff are all so welcoming and kind and truly seem to take a proper interest in our children and their development! I love that the staff even outside of my son's room recognise him and interact when they see him. The nursery manager Becky is
an absolute superstar and remembers the children's names too! It's a challenge to decide on our nursery colleague of the month!

My daughter started at the nursery last month, and we've already seen a tremendous difference in her development. She has settled in so well and clearly feels happy and comfortable in her new environment.

It's been wonderful to see how much she is enjoying her time there. The staff have been incredibly

supportive and nurturing, which has really helped her confidence grow in such a short space of time.

Charlotte has become much more independent since attending the nursery and really enjoys exploring and playing on her own. It has been lovely to see her confidence grow. Like many children starting nursery, she has had a few colds along the way, but this seems very common as children build their immunity
when mixing with others.

Our one year old started at Little Pioneers Bristol in January 2026 and settled so quickly thanks to the wonderful staff. Shania, his key worker, has such a special bond with our boy, but all the wonderful ladies are great with him - Liv, Gabrielle, Naomi and more. We couldn't be more grateful to have
found a safe, caring, fun place for our boy to spend four days a week at. Highly recommend!

Fantastic nursery and preschool. The staff very obviously care and make a great effort in keeping the children engaged and learning. Our son has had a wonderful time over the past 3 years growing across several different rooms and carers. Highly recommend!

Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of my 1 year old daughter. She has settled in really quickly and I know that's because of the excellent staff and the care that they give her. I would definitely recommend little pioneers to anyone looking for a fun and safe space for their little
ones.

Our child has been attending the nursery for a couple of years now, and we've been very happy with his trajectory there. He has a wonderful relationship with his main carers, and the environment seems very fulfilling and enriching.

When first looking at nurseries I was struck that the good ones seemed to either be competent or warm. Coop Bristol exuded competence. In the 1 1/2 years since I joined, any potential doubts about warmth have been drowned out by the stronger impression of kindness & compassion which seems to be the
continuing source of their competence.
Examples
- all dirty/soiled clothes are bagged up and hung on the children's pegs or placed in their bags - rarely are clothes lost which I now recognise as unusual among nurseries
- "poor behaviour" is directly handled, usually with some real efforts to understand things for both parties. My children have been on both sides of this.
- nearly everything is noticed - I've been told about bruises i didn't know my children had
- the comms app is always and promptly filled in with daily updates, and semi regular reports on progress are completed.
The two possible cons are
- central roadside location
- it's very popular/big

Lovely nursery - the team are great, and both of my boys are really settled, making friends and enjoying their time at Little Pioneers. My older boy is in pre school and I'm so pleased with how much he's learning, and how socially confident he is. My younger boy started about six months ago - he's got
such a lovely bond with his key worker and the other staff in the baby room, it's really lovely to see.

Little Pioneers Nursery and Preschool are brilliant! We've got both our children there now and they both love it and are thriving due to the commitment of the staff and facilities they have.
The staff there really do care for each child and its great to see them building trusting relationships with
the children in their care, even the kitchen staff are known to the children! We've been so happy we were able to get our children in here and it has/will set them up for hopefully more success as they move into school

My little one has been at the nursery for a couple of months now, and has settled in so well. The staff have been welcoming and warm, and have made the effort to get to know us. The activities are fun and varied, there is a great amount of indoor and outdoor space for them. The food choices are healthy
and nutritious. They have developed a lot since they started, due to interacting with the other kids, staff and the activities that they can participate in. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nursery!

The nursery has had a huge and entirely positive effect on both our young boys. The wonderful staff are attentive, kind and loving towards the children, and they work so hard to make the kids feel welcome and to make us parents feel secure. Our boys have both found themselves at nursery and have both
developed great relationships with other kids and the staff as well. Couldn't be happier.

My Child has enjoyed their first 2 months at Little Pioneers. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. There's always a detailed handover at the end of the day and a welcoming smile on arrival. All food is cooked fresh on site and all dietary requirements are met. The children are separated by age
groups in separate rooms but mixed at times for activities, breakfast and going out in the garden. My child has thrived so much since attending here. Highly recommend.

We are very pleased with Little Pioneers. Our son has a lovely time and is very well cared for. The staff all know him by name and make him feel welcome. They do a nice range of activities which are fun and help his development. I'm very impressed with the on-site kitchen and our son loves the variety
of food. The outside areas are really nicely done and great for playing outdoors. I definitely recommend this nursery.

Little Pioneers is a wonderful nursery. My daughter has been attending for just under a year now. I was very anxious about leaving her in someone else's care on my return to work. I needn't have worried- the staff were very caring, lots of cuddles, affection and encouragement in this time of important
transition. She's a very poor sleeper but somehow manages to sleep there and happily eats the varied menu. She's come on leaps and bounds since first attending and seems to enjoy a nursery day as much as a home day. Lots of activities and toys to play with. The children go outside to play regularly, which my daughter absolutely loves. I would have preferred a nursery was a large garden but given the central location, they have made the best with what they have. The staff update you on pickup every day, which I find useful.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Bristol is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 240 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Bristol is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 number of registered child places is 18.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
