University Nursery at Edwinstowe Close looks to provide a professional childcare service to employees of the University of Cambridge and have a limited number of spaces available for community families who are not working or studying at the University.

Edwinstowe offers full day care and part-time sessional care to children from three months to five years in four different age group based rooms.

An established staff team provides a wide range of activities, following the EYFS framework, which meet the needs of each individual child.

A wide range of age-appropriate resources both indoors and outside allows children plenty of opportunities to develop new skills. Supported by staff, the nursery environment is one where children of all ages can thrive.

Edwinstowe is an outstanding nursery. Our daughter joined at 9 months and has just moved on aged three. The care that she has received throughout from the team has been brilliant. Children have lots of fun and the facilities are lovely. Families can also put their trust in the nursery in more difficult
times. Our daughter had some health issues at points, and the staff at Edwinstowe went above and beyond, both to help her and to support us as a family. She is now a very happy little girl, and that is due in no small part to the staff. Their kindness made such a difference, and we will always be grateful to them.

The experiences with Edwinstowe have made our future childcare and educational arrangement very difficult. We simply couldn’t find any other provider that can make our little ones as happy as they have been. At the same time, we are also so very grateful to the nursery team for preparing our children
for their next chapter of life, despite being sad to leave the nursery, we are proud to see our children have thrived and obtained the needed skills for reception in primary.

We've been very impressed by the care shown to both our children by University Nursery at Edwinstowe Close. They have been very helpful and supportive with any issues related to social, emotional and academic development. The space is great - plenty of outdoor space and play. The food seems varied and
nutritious and the children always seem to eat more and a wider variety of things than they do at home!

We love this nursery! My daughter joined when I returned to work and she was 8 months old. I saw her grow and thrive thanks to all the loving care and skills of the team at Edwinstowe. She has been supported to learn and make friends. She is confident and curious about the world, thanks to this nursery.
Beyond the team, the food and facilities and communication with parents are best in class. We will miss this community.

My son loves the nursery and has formed a lovely connection with the staff. I have to prize him away from toys and friends at the end of the day and he eats better than me!
It is very reassuring to be able to drop him off and not think about him all day so I can switch my work brain on.

Our son has been there for almost three years now. He is very happy there. He has formed very good relationships with the carers there. He is also making lots of friends with other children. It feels like he is given space to be himself whilst being given opportunities to explore different things.
The communication with staff is good. As is the food which caters for a wide range of requirements. The building feels secure. It is a friendly place with lots of colour. I like the charity initiatives. The staff seem to care a lot, for example, when our son's younger brother was born carers from his previous rooms came to congratulate him. Also, one day there was an ad hoc puppet show with children from different rooms. The staff are also very conscientious about child safety without being overbearing. Having recently visited a few other nurseries I notice the friendliness, colour and that is also quite noisy (I see that as a good thing!). We will send our younger child there.

We are very impressed with the care that our daughter is receiving at University Nursery at Edwinstowe Close. We have never felt that our child is just one of many children there and instead feel that her carers really do know and adore her. (This is in contrast to some of the experiences that our friends
have had at other nurseries in Cambridge, particularly regarding very young children.) Our daughter is very close with her key worker and everybody else in her room. She receives well-rounded care that is helping her to grow and develop in the ways that we would hope. Her communication skills and confidence have come on leaps and bounds since being at the nursery. We could not recommend Edwinstowe enough and are so grateful to all of the staff there.

Our daughter is very happy at nursery. Staff support her in her growth, listen to our concerns and help with her everyday needs. We particularly like outdoor activities and the close interactions with staff at dropp-off and pick-up. We also appreciate the strict interdiction against smart phones in
the childrens rooms. There are occasional pictures on the app and most records are taken on paper (e.g food, nappy changes, development reports), which is great.

We could not be more pleased with the nursery and the care and support they provide to our child who is in their third class at Edwinstowe. As frustrating as it can often be, the nursery follows their policies very closely and ensure that the health and well-being of all children are at the forefront
of their daily practice. Both of our children attended the nursery, the eldest recently leaving to start reception class. Edwinstowe assisted in ensuring that they were very prepared for the next step. In short, I would not want to send my child anywhere else.

Our young daughter (9 months old) has been at Edwinstowe Close for the past three months and we could not be happier about the staff at the nursery, their facilities and the general set-up at Edwinstowe. They are incredibly dedicated to each individual child. Our daughter seems very happy herself there,
particularly with her key worker whom she loves spending time with.

All the staff at Edwinstowe are friendly, loving and caring with the children. They
have always been keen to help with any concerns I could have had about my child. Rooms, gardens, activities - all of it is great, but the most important thing to me is the respect and love they all give to the children

We are extremely happy with the nursery and the way our child feels about it. We really like how the nursery designs the education program and always keeps the children busy and discovering new things that expand their knowledge. The wonderful staff at Edwinstowe have just finished looking after my almost 3-year-old, he has been attending the nursery since he was 1. Before him, my eldest boy went there from 8 months to the age of 3. I can't recommend Edwinstowe enough, all the staff there have taken such good care of my children.
They are caring, attentive and always there to have a conversation about all aspects of childcare. Thank you, Edwinstowe.

My little girl's key worker could not have been better. All of the staff are very good. The care given is totally outstanding and the children do new tasks every day. Parents can go in at any time of day and the staff are always working very hard, doing projects with the children and giving them great
care and comfort. My little girl's key worker went way beyond what she needed to do to help my little girl settle in. My girl had been with a childminder so it was quite a long settling period, but my little girl now loves it there. I'm a solo mum and I've also been touched by the mindful way her key worker has dealt with our family situation. The garden is huge, the craft activities are great, and there are lots of new themed activities brought in each week. Also, the children get two cooked meals a day.

The nursery provides an extraordinary environment for children's development. The preschool team is highly competent and caring. They helped our child to gain confidence and develop communication skills. Our child enjoys their time at the nursery. We, as parents, feel the nursery hits the right balance
between learning and playing and fosters creativity and imagination in our child. It is wonderful to see the nursery doing out-of-the-box activities, such as yoga, french lessons and hosting ducklings.

University at Edwinstowe Close is a lovely, friendly and small nursery. My son has varied, full and happy days there. The staff in his room are caring and professional, he's developed great relationships with all of them. The outdoor space is big and well-equipped, they play outdoors regularly during
all weathers and seasons. The food is balanced, healthy and my son likes it! It's made on-site daily. I'd absolutely recommend this nursery.

I find the staff to be very attentive and helpful. My daughter always comes home happy and is always learning. The nursery is very organised and I find the newsletter and the app is always helpful. My daughter has a special bond with the staff members which is a testament to them.

Both of our children attended Edwinstowe and we couldn't be happier with the care for both of our children. The rooms are lovely and bright, and unlike other nurseries we looked at, the numbers of children in each was smaller. The staff are all amazing and really experienced and they all care a lot
for the children.

Fran is Manager of Edwinstowe Day Nursery and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the early year's sector for over 23 years. Fran has a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Childcare and Education. Fran has worked at Childbase Partnership for 18 years.


What’s your favourite feature of your nursery?
I love how every room has its own garden and its quiet location in natural surroundings, which encourages a range of wildlife, despite being close to the city centre.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
How passionate they are in helping the children to reach their full potential, seeing how much fun they have in teaching the children every day, resulting in the children being excited and engaged in their learning.
