Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) provides a caring, happy and secure learning environment for children to learn, socialise and develop.

The nursery and its team of staff have over 30 years of experience in delivering high-quality, flexible childcare while offering parents value for money.

During their time at Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham), children can learn and play in a fun, safe and stimulating environment, while having the opportunity to enjoy an all-weather outdoor play area and access to a range of facilities including music groups, yoga and cookery classes. With Buckingham Park at the nursery's doorstep, all age groups also benefit from visits to the park to play and explore.

In 2018 and 2020 Young Sussex received the 'UK Top 20 Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' Award. The nursery was rated 'Outstanding in all areas' in their most recent OFSTED inspection (March 2022).

I cannot recommend Young Sussex, Shoreham highly enough. The manager and her team have been fantastic, supporting our daughter for the last 3 years. The staff go above and beyond making it a fun, yet educational day. It has been a brilliant stepping stone for her starting school. Each day they have
a variation of activities and often have theme weeks, whether it’s linked to a book or topic like space, science etc the attention to detail to decorate the room and link the messy play activities are very well thought out. It’s nurturing and one thing which strikes us is there have been very little staff changes which has meant our daughter settled well throughout the pandemic and transition from the baby room to preschoolers. We cannot thank you enough Young Sussex.

Our 2-year-old has been attending Young Sussex in Shoreham for 3 months and we can’t praise the nursery and the team enough!
Our daughter is extremely fussy with food at home but has become more adventurous with trying new meals at nursery. We love reading about her day on the online journal and seeing
photos of what she’s been up to. She has formed a strong bond with the staff!
Such a lovely team and we feel incredibly lucky that our daughter is so well looked after.
We would highly recommend Young Sussex.

I would highly recommend Young Sussex. Our son started when he was 9 months old and settled very quickly, with the support of staff. We have felt very involved with Young Sussex, despite COVID restrictions and have felt very reassured leaving our baby there. The outside space is fantastic and there
are plenty of stimulating activities on offer. Our son has had no problems settling in and has developed excellent relationships with the carers there. There is lots of flexibility regarding swapping sessions and staff have bent over backwards to accommodate last-minute changes. All the carers are very positive and professional and we would have no hesitation in recommending this nursery.

Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) has been an amazing nursery for my children. My daughter attended first and she really enjoyed going. They were supportive and really helped her. My son attends now and Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) has also been amazing for him too. He has special needs and they have
a wonderful support system to help him with his needs. The staff are so friendly and kind and will always go above and beyond to help with anything they can. Would definitely recommend.

Young Sussex has been amazing with my son. I was unsure about how he would settle and the staff have been fantastic with him couldn’t thank them enough. He loves going into nursery every day. I can not recommend Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) enough. All staff has always been so kind and welcoming to our son and ourselves. Thank you so very much for looking after our son over the last year. We were very happy with the care received and or son has learned a lot. He has enjoyed his days at

We are so sad our time Young Sussex has come to an end. Both of our boys have absolutely thrived since they were 10 months old. We have felt so at ease knowing how caring, knowledgeable and fun the staff are. We have had absolutely no issues and loved every minute. The updates, communication and overall
care has been absolutely incredible. Even during COVID times we felt valued and truly looked after. You will forever be in our hearts. Thanks so much for everything. We miss you already!

My son has attended Young Sussex since he was 15 months old and has just left to start school. At the time we were choosing nurseries we went to view a few of the local ones and found Young Sussex to be the most welcoming and homely feeling. I have never regretted that decision since! He has had the
most wonderful introduction to learning in a very caring and happy environment. He has been so sad to leave and not see his favourite “teachers” anymore but he is now starting school and is more than ready for it thanks to the start Young Sussex has given him. I could not recommend this nursery enough for the wonderful teachers it employs and also for the great management of this nursery and the chain. The way they dealt with the lockdown situation was second to none and we were kept fully updated at all times as to what this would mean to us. This was a great relief in such strange times.

Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham).
We cannot recommend them enough! Both of our girls have had the most wonderful experience.
The staff are all so friendly, warm, welcoming, loving and genuinely caring towards our girls.
They both settled in so quickly and easily. Each staff member took the time
to get to know them and both girls warmed to each one of them.
It’s a small and friendly setting, perfect for little ones just starting out in their learning journey.
They say first impressions count, well from the moment we stepped in the door for that 1st visit we felt like they genuinely cared about our daughter's wellbeing and really made an effort to welcome us. We instantly fell in love with the place and have felt that way ever since.
3 and a half yrs on and our eldest has just ‘graduated’. Sadly the pandemic had put a stop to their traditional celebrations, however, the staff still made it very special and our daughter left so proud and happy.
It’s such a wonderful nursery!

My daughter has loved being at Young Sussex, she will be very sad to leave after nearly 4 years there. I have always been grateful that I can go to work and have complete peace of mind that she will be cared for and have a fun-filled day whilst at nursery. She has built some really strong relationships
with staff and other children during her time at Young Sussex in Shoreham-by-Sea.
I like the fact that Young Sussex has clear guidance and policies that are strictly followed. Have recommended this nursery to several friends and will continue to do so.

I would absolutely recommend Young Sussex Shoreham. I took a long time to choose a nursery and was very anxious about sending my daughter when she was so little (11-months-old), but from the first viewing the staff were so friendly and put me at ease. My daughter has now been at Young Sussex for over
18 months, and she absolutely loves going in to play with her friends. There has not been a single day that she has not bounced out at the end of the day with a huge smile on her face. They have a lovely little routine, and my daughter does lots of different activities, bringing home lots of art work every day. She is extremely well looked after there, and all the staff are so kind and caring. I really think it is a fantastic nursery.

We are so pleased we chose Young Sussex in Shoreham for our daughter. She started at the age of one and has absolutely thrived since joining. There are always updates on the app, which is great to see. I love getting the artwork and creations at the end of each week. All the staff are extremely friendly,
and they give feedback after every session. Nothing is ever too much trouble! Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of our daughter.

Our second son started at Young Sussex, and he absolutely loves it. The staff, especially his key person, are so nurturing and brilliant - we couldn't be happier. I just want to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Young Sussex who have looked after my daughter in Hoots. Before my daughter started at Young Sussex, she wasn’t a fan of getting messy/dirty and she was quite shy and didn’t want to leave my side at times. After her time at Young Sussex she has
come out very sociable, loves making friends and especially loves to get messy during messy play. I am also glad that my daughter is more independent and doesn’t get upset when I take her to nursery. I also want to say a huge thank you to one member of staff for always going that extra mile in helping my daughter in every way possible. Thank you all again, I highly recommend this nursery 1000%.

My daughter is so happy at this nursery. Every session she’s just so excited to go and she has come on in leaps and bounds since starting. The staff are wonderful, the place is kept spotlessly clean and the atmosphere is lovely. We chose this nursery over others that were much nearer to where we live
because we loved the feeling and ethos of the place.

There are no words to describe how amazing Young Sussex Nursery is.


I feel I can't thank them enough for everything they all have done to support us and especially our children at the nursery.


My children were very happy, safe and learnt so many things at the nursery. They felt embraced, and

looked after with care, even being from another country (Brazil), having another culture and initially not being able to communicate in English.
My children were not only kept safe, but they also had a very warm atmosphere which enabled them to make connections and develop emotionally too. They felt loved, cared and respected on their diversity. The staff went beyond my expectations so many times, making us very impressed and more important making us feel safe.
We, as parents, also felt embraced and supported which made a huge difference in our adapting process here in the UK.
All the staff members have a very special place on our hearts that for sure they will keep forever.

My daughter loves coming to nursery, she is always happy going in and happy when we pick her up. I can see that she loves it and the staff are always friendly, helpful and approachable. Any emails I send are always answered quickly. We are very happy with her progress here.

Sarah Burt

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1992

After completing my childcare qualification, I worked as a residential matron at a private school, then briefly at a nursery before working in a high street bank. I joined Young Sussex in May 1992 to help set up and manage the new Shoreham nursery.


I later became an NVQ Assessor, helping many of the staff through their NVQ2 and 3s, before ultimately completing my Level 5 in Leadership and Management in 2016.


I have lived in Southwick and Shoreham all my life and still live locally. I have had a lifelong involvement in the Brownies and Guides, but having retired from an active role, I now spend my time on my many crafts such as crocheting and card making!
