My son went to Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) after being with a childminder. The shift for him was quite difficult and he was often extremely emotional. Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) ensured that my son was comforted and cared for, not only during this transition period but throughout his time at
nursery. The staff are extremely caring, energetic and practical (and very 'natural' - their interest in the children is not forced). They clearly demonstrate a keen interest to nurture and educate (over and above what's expected of them!). Yes, the nursery is small and looks a bit disorganised - do not let that fool you! This nursery is absolutely geared towards your child's development and my son is a testament to that. His development whilst being at this nursery is evidence of the ethos of this nursery - 'learning through play' and it works! My son now attends the Aldrington branch because of a house move but it only provides further endorsement of how pleased I am with the Young Sussex group.

My daughter has been so happy here. The care and attention from all the staff has been amazing. She is so ready for school now but was kept happy and inspired right to the end of her time. I really did think she would get bored but she loved Young Sussex to the end. The manager and my daughter's key
worker have been so consistently brilliant over the years. I cannot recommend this nursery enough. It has been really important to me that my girl was happy as her father and I work so much. Outstanding nursery.

Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) is a nursery which can be trusted. I know that when I send my little boy, he is happy and content and stimulated in the right ways. He enjoys the activities and play and has made a lovely group of friends, which has only happened due to the love and nurturing that he
receives at this nursery.
His key worker is a credit to this establishment and made sure that my child is catered for in an individual way on the days he is there. I would be happy to recommend this nursery to my friends.

My daughter has loved every minute at this nursery for the last three years. The facilities and range of activities continue to impress and surprise me and stimulate my daughter. The staff go 'above and beyond' every day, take a genuine interest in each child's development and are a real credit to the
nursery. Some how the catering manager gets my daughter to eat meals that she would turn her nose up at home! 10 out of 10!

My daughter started at Young Sussex in December when she was 11 months old. She struggled to adjust at first but the nursery staff have been nothing but helpful in this transition. From encouraging me to call for an update during the day to always taking her for a cuddle when I leave. Even though she
still cries when I leave I know she enjoys her time at nursery, the staff have been lovely, supportive and caring. I think she is getting so much out of it. Her key worker is also great! She loves her.

I am so glad I was recommended Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham). My children couldn't be happier there. They go twice a week and I've watched them develop in confidence, social skills and general ability. I personally feel that this is because the staff remain consistent and continually provide a warm,
caring, nurturing environment. My children have such warm and touching bonds with their key worker but also the rest of the team. The team are also observant when as a parent you may be struggling or need advice or just a kind gesture or smile. I couldn't be happier.

My daughter has been at Young Sussex for 18 months and has enjoyed her time with the staff. She has just made the transition to the older room without any fuss, showing that all the staff are happy, approachable and caring. My experience over the last 4 years (with son previously) has been nothing but
great and would highly recommend it. They have lots of activities they organise and arrange for others to come in from outside the nursery to teach the children. From yoga, music groups or animals being brought in.

We chose Young Sussex because we were very impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff when we first looked round. We find the intimate environment is good for our quieter child. The staff at Young Sussex are all friendly and experienced. Overall, we are happy and feel that our child is in safe

My daughter has just moved from the baby room to the toddler room. The taster sessions were a great step to her moving and made it a lot nicer experience. She seems to have settled in nicely and the staff have been really sensitive to a potentially scary experience.

A fantastic nursery that offers fantastic care and development. Our daughter loves the nursery and the extracurricular things they provide like yoga, forest school and visits from the fire brigade are an absolute bonus.
The leadership is strong and all staff are professional and loving with children
in equal measure.

Both my boys have thrived here. They come home full of stories about what they've been up to. When they walk in, they are greeted by name by every member of staff and we love watching them hang up their coats and wonder in and get stuck in. The staff have always listened and taken it seriously if we
have told them something, for example, that one of them was upset or whatever. I can't praise the place enough.

I found the nursery helped develop interpersonal skills. Every time I come to the nursery I get feedback from my son's day at the nursery. I feel that all the staff are very much involved with my son's development. The location of the nursery is great and my son is always excited to go which is the
best recommendation.

I am so pleased that my daughter has been attending Young Sussex since she was 11 months old. Her key worker has helped my daughter develop into a fun, confident and independent young lady and ready for big school in September. I cannot thank all the staff enough for the love and care they show my
daughter, and the positive encouragement they offer at all times, both to me, my daughter and our family. I will miss them all when my daughter leaves in September.

I have had children attending Young Sussex for 3 years. All the staff are amazing, I walk away after drop off and know they will have an amazing time. Every time I pick my children up I get a fantastic detailed description of their day, what they have done and enjoyed, makes great conversation on the
care journey home to discuss their day.
All the staff are fantastic, I couldn't recommend them highly enough!!

Our child has been at the above nursery for nearly 2 years and he has enjoyed every minute. The staff turnover is very low, which I think is a good sign. The nursery liaises with me as the parent frequently about my son's development etc. The lunches and snacks provided are great - healthy and varied.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.760)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.760) out of 10 for Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.985 for Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) is calculated as follows: ( (130 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.985
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Young Sussex Nursery (Shoreham) is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 number of registered child places is 7, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1992

After completing my childcare qualification, I worked as a residential matron at a private school, then briefly at a nursery before working in a high street bank. I joined Young Sussex in May 1992 to help set up and manage the new Shoreham nursery.

I later became an NVQ Assessor, helping many of the staff through their NVQ2 and 3s, before ultimately completing my Level 5 in Leadership and Management in 2016.

I have lived in Southwick and Shoreham all my life and still live locally. I have had a lifelong involvement in the Brownies and Guides, but having retired from an active role, I now spend my time on my many crafts such as crocheting and card making!
