Young Sussex Nursery (Hove) offers family-run care and prides itself in providing flexible childcare in a stimulating, loving and friendly environment.

The children benefit from a range of resources and activities including music groups, weekly yoga, nature club and cooking classes, while the nursery also features interconnecting free-flow rooms and several spacious outdoor play areas.

Care is available term-time or full-time. With half day, school day and full day options as well as session swaps and the opportunity to book extra sessions, parents welcome Young Sussex's flexible childcare.

It received the 2018 and 2020 Award: Top 20 Nursery Group Award for ‘Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' in the UK.

Free Early Learning Funding available for three- and four-year-olds (15 hours universal and 30 hours if eligible) as well as eligible two-year-olds (15 hours).

Our daughter has had the most amazing time here. Not only has she mentally developed and hit all her milestones, she has loved coming here. Seeing as our daughter was nine weeks premature, finding the right nursery was vital and the team here; gave her their all - to help her learn and grow. If it wasn't
for our house move, we would still be coming here.

This is our second child who has attended this nursery. Our son has a digestive disorder and multiple allergies, so when we initially called around nurseries, Young Sussex were the only ones who gave us any reassurances. They have dealt with us and our son with such professionalism whilst also being
personal and caring. Each and every member of staff has taken on board our fears and ensured that we don’t need to worry. There are very few people that we feel comfortable leaving our son with and nursery is one of them. Not only are the medical requirements met but he is thoroughly entertained, loved, cared for and challenged. We would recommend this nursery wholeheartedly. Thank you.

My child took a little while to settle into the Young Sussex, however, the whole team were so supportive in working with us to ensure he had the best possible start. The team at Ladybirds are so lovely and caring, always so happy to see him and always so responsive to him. It took a few weeks but now
he stretches his arms out to go to his key worker and other members of staff - so nice to see! He no longer cries at drop-offs or pickups which makes the whole transition so much easier for us.
The Ladybirds team always provide excellent updates about his day. He seems to love the food provided. We love getting updates on the app - there were a few weeks when we didn't get any, but as soon as I raised this to their attention it was quickly rectified and lots of updates followed.
We are so happy with our decision to send our child to Young Sussex, he seems to have such a great time and comes home exhausted and happy.

The staff and facilities at Young Sussex were excellent. My child really enjoyed her time there and we loved it too. There was a real range of activities and play for her which she really enjoyed. We loved all the feedback and updates we got. We've enrolled our younger child there and will be genuinely
sad when it's time for him to leave. Thank you Young Sussex.

My daughter has just left Young Sussex to start school, and my son started at Young Sussex in May. We've been extremely impressed with our experience. They've helped shape my daughter into a confident, friendly child. Everything from potty training, to advice on building her confidence. Both children
picked up so much knowledge and skill from being there, we are constantly surprised by new developments. Both children have had a very happy time at Young Sussex.

My son absolutely loves Young Sussex and as parents, so do we! He has developed so wonderfully and every day he comes home saying or doing something new that we know he has learnt at nursery.
The staff are fantastic. As a parent, I feel constantly supported and can go to work feeling confident that
my son is in the best hands. He loves everyone that works there and their love for him is clearly shown when I pick up and drop him off.
I could not recommend Young Sussex highly enough - my future children will certainly be going here!

My son was so happy at Young Sussex Nursery, he went in every morning happily knowing he was going to have a great day! As does my youngest daughter now. All staff are warm, professional and creative in their approach to play and development. There are always imaginative themes to good old fashioned
playtime. The children played outside every day rain or snow if they wanted. They don’t tend to leave the nursery on trips as others do but they make up for it by having visits from all sorts of people from farmers, firefighters and ambulance teams, nurses, Guinea pigs, tadpoles, hatching chicks... I could go on and on! I cannot fault them at all! The menu always sounded amazing and both of my children would enjoy their hot meals and snacks. Also, the nursery manager and admin staff are genuinely interested in helping as much as they can if you need to swap a session which has made such a difference to us logistically and, in my experience, not something on offer at other nurseries.

My eldest has just finished his time at Young Sussex and has loved it. The staff are so caring, helpful and give amazing feedback. They really supported us with reward cards that we were doing for my eldest. My little one also attends Young Sussex and always has a great time when he goes. Love the fact
that they upload photos of their progress on Tapestry, the online journal. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.

Young Sussex is an excellent nursery which I would highly recommend to anyone.
My son (now aged 8) went there from a baby until he went to school and enjoyed his time there so much that we never considered anywhere else for our daughter (now aged 2).


All of the staff do an amazing job and it is

clear that they really care about the children, their happiness and wellbeing. They are always welcoming, enthusiastic and attentive when the children arrive and great in giving the parents personal feedback at the end of each day.


The key worker system is fantastic and my daughter's key worker always goes above and beyond the job description to make sure she is happy and settled.
There is plenty of space indoors and outdoors and they do a range of activities each day including art and messy play, outdoor play and dressing up.


My daughter is so happy at the nursery and looks forward to going every day.

I have nothing but praise for the nursery, both our children have had an amazing time here. Our eldest child ( now 5) started at the age of 1 in the baby room and left last year more than ready to start school with thanks to the staff at Young Sussex.
Our middle child ( age 3) started at 9 months in
the baby room and is currently having an amazing time in the middle room ( called Bumblebees), I love hearing about all the activities he’s been up to.
The staff really make the nursery and I love how they all know my son well ( not just his key worker) and they also remember my daughter's name when she comes with me to drop him off.
My son's speech is a little delayed and his key worker has been working with him in small groups to help him improve.
We have another baby who will be starting at the end of the year. I have no doubts or worries about returning to work as I know the staff at Young Sussex will make this transition smooth and give my daughter the best care and attention.

The key person system works extremely well and helped our son to settle into nursery quickly. The staff provide an update after each session to let you know what they have done, how they have eaten, slept etc which is very helpful. It is nice to get a real feel for that by getting photos and messages
on the Tapestry system. The staff are well qualified and I am happy that my son will be well looked after as well as having a lot of fun and learning some new things too.

Our older son finished the pre-school group at Young Sussex - the Dragonflies - in September 2018. We thought he was well prepared for school and only realised how well he was prepared when he started in his reception class. The transition was so smooth it was a relief and joy to see.
He knew what
school was about, what structure there’d be, uniforms, that his old nursery friends wouldn’t be there, he’d had a very good idea of phonics, numbers, shapes and even simple maths. He was prepared for the change in teachers and new friends and he was very ready for the change and embraced it 100%.
I don’t think this experience would be this smooth without Young Sussex structured and meticulous approach to school preparation. The standard of care and education is very high and I’d recommend Young Sussex over and over again.

Our children are very happy here and our experiences are generally excellent.


The management are very helpful as we have had many issues (through no fault of the nursery or us) with the 30 hours funding and the manager has always helped sort it out with us.


The staff all seem very nice and our

child never complains about anyone or anything.


The good outside space at the nursery is one of the things that drew us to use it.


I think all nurseries are much of a muchness when it comes to cost, so it's difficult to answer a value for money question.


The only criticism is that sometimes we've had to ask several times to ensure the emergency contacts are used in the correct order. Messages have been left for my wife without even an attempt to call me in the past and I am number 1 on the list to call. However, asking management to rectify this seems to have worked and the issue does not exist now.


There have been minor glitches with invoices but not for a while now and rectified quickly.

Both my sons (age 2&3) started at Young Sussex in Hove a couple of months ago. We knew from the first introduction session that this was the right nursery for them, they both absolutely loved it! The staff are so friendly and made them feel welcome and at ease. My younger son's speech has improved dramatically
since going there, and both are interacting with other children in a really positive way. Each morning the boys jump out of bed with no hesitation and are excited to be going to nursery. When I pick them up, the staff give me a quick overview of their day and what they have been up to which is always nice. They also have an online system you can log into to see pictures of your child and the activities they have been doing which is fantastic. My eldest sons vocabulary is getting broader by the day, he's always coming out with new words and phrases we haven't heard him say before, which means he's definitely learning there! Would highly recommend Young Sussex!!

Our twins attended Young Sussex for three years, from when they were 18 months old until when they started school last week. I cannot rate this nursery highly enough. The quality of care provided is excellent, with staff well trained, caring, nurturing and highly professional. I have been amazed at
the range of activities provided (yoga, music, forest school type activities, growing chicks, butterflies and froglets, as well as outside visits from zoolab and the fire brigade), and at the dedication of the staff in ensuring a rich and stimulating nursery experience. Our children thoroughly enjoyed their time at Young Sussex and have been looking forward to going back to visit! The ability to do session swaps has been very useful, so we have rarely had to pay for extra sessions. The food is healthy, with our children eating things they would refuse at home. The use of Tapestry as an online learning journal enables parents to upload pictures and comments from home.

My baby is always smiling at entering (and leaving) the nursery. I can see how happy he is to meet the team every day. I trust the carers and if there is anything related to my baby they tell us, whether it is a new thing he does, a new interaction but also when he may be unwell. Also the nice interactions
and conversations I have with each carer builds trust everyday.
I have the confidence that my baby is well looked after and I can focus on my job when he is in the nursery.
Regarding the building itself, the outside space is great, the inside space is good too. Lots of activities every day that I can have a look using my "tapestry" account.
The reactivity of the nursery when I need to book/cancel/modify attendance is great which is really useful as both my partner and I work full time. It gives us the flexibility we need.
To summarize, happy family at Aldrington Young Sussex Nursery!
