Hemsley House Nursery School is split between two beautifully converted, large Victorian homes in Maidstone, Kent.

Educators at Hemsley House Nursery School are experienced in providing premium care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old, achieving an Outstanding Ofsted rating (December 2022). They adopt a hybrid approach to education, combining the EYFS framework with their own Storal curriculum. This flexible, tailored approach provides children with opportunities to reach their full potential at their own pace.

The cosy, home-from-home learning environments provide opportunities for wonder and stimulation. Its calm and cosy sensory room is especially beneficial for children with learning difficulties.

At mealtimes, fresh and healthy food is cooked every day by their onsite chef. Educators use mealtimes as an opportunity to help children learn about nutrition, where their food comes from, and older children help with food preparation in the kitchen.

If you would like to find out more about this Ofsted Outstanding nursery school, please contact the nursery to arrange a time for you and your family to visit.

My son started in September and has enjoyed every session that he has been to. He often brings home pictures and things that he has made during the day.

The online app is very easy to use.

The nursery provides excellent care. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I am always kept well informed about what my daughter has been doing during the day. The environment is very clean and tidy. My daughter has learnt a lot and enjoys her time at the nursery.

The staff are always happy and attentive. The food is cooked fresh onsite and is a healthy variety. We often receive daily updates and diary entries so we can see what the children have been up to during the day. They have a lovely large garden and a huge array of different activities to do include
the occasional biscuit baking. My son absolutely loves attending. I couldn’t recommend more highly. An exceptional nursery.

Our daughter has absolutely flourished at Hemsley. She loves going, we've even had tears on holiday because she wanted to go to nursery! The staff are amazing, a child has a key worker but all staff interact with them and they're very personable with parents. This is a huge benefit as a child transitions
through the age groups with how settled and secure they feel. Feedback given on daily activities, sleep, food etc and how your child is progressing is really informative, there's a termly newsletter on what children are learning, and staff are always happy to provide guidance on what more can be done to support learning at home. Management are keen to provide opportunities for improvement suggestions and these are always followed up. The facilities are excellent, with a great outdoor space that is used as much as weather permits. For us, the little touches that make this feel more like a family setting rather than a clinical stark walled nursery were the reason we chose Hemsley.

My daughter was very shy and timid and frankly hated me leaving her at other nurseries but at Hemsley House the staff worked with us and she now absolutely loves going in and seeing her teachers and friends.

The staff are all very approachable, friendly and helpful and I have no hesitation that my

daughter and soon to be daughters are in safe hands.

The food offered is varied, healthy and home cooked which is perfect as it's like home from home.

Cannot recommend this nursery enough.

Fantastic nursery, amazing staff. My two love it here. Thank you for always helping wherever you need to. Potty training, kids behaviour - nothing is too much trouble for the staff here. Highly recommended.

My daughter has been attending Hemsley House for just under 2 years. In that time her development has been nothing short of sensational. The staff are very caring, especially on the odd occasion my daughter is upset and in need of a cuddle to reassure her.

Overall, my wife and I are very happy with

Hemsley House. I would certainly recommend then to anyone in the Maidstone area who are in need of a nursery for their young children and I'm sure they'd be as impressed as we are.

My daughter has attended Hemsley House nursery for nearly three years now and I cannot fault the staff. From my initial enquiry to now, they have been prompt and professional. They always offer a friendly welcome at the door and nothing is ever too much trouble. They have been flexible with me and completed
my paperwork needed for my course without delay. My daughter is due to start school in September and I know she will miss everyone when she leaves. I'll also be sad to not see everyone's smiling face each week. My daughter has developed tenfold since attending the nursery and I know she has made friends for life. Thank you to all the staff at Hemsley.

My son has been at the baby unit from 3 months and the nursery has been wonderful. The staff are so friendly and supportive to me, and loving and fun with my baby. I came to Hemsley as a result of a recommendation from a very good friend and my midwife. I am so happy I have found a nursery where the
staff take such good care of my baby and who I can trust completely.

I love the nursery. My son has been going there since he was 1 and now he is 4. We've never had any issue.
Everyone is very friendly, professional and always trying to help. Couldn't ask for a better place or people to look after my little boy.

I love the communications between the nursery and
us, they always keep us informed.

They truly care about each child.

Almost forgot to mention their amazing chef that make amazing meals for the kids.

Hemsley House is a wonderful 'home from home' for us and truly feels like extended family. After my eldest attended, I had absolutely no desire to look anywhere else for my younger children. All of the staff are kind, caring and fully invested in providing the best care available.
My children have
thrived here, they love the large garden and wonderful food. The staff, in my opinion, are outstanding, they not only attend to the learning needs of a child but are also incredibly nurturing of a child's emotional wellbeing. Communication between parents and staff is excellent. There is also a large number of long-standing staff, so we have built a great relationship with the same people over the last 4 years.
My children adore Hemsley House and we will be sad to move on to school, but I believe they have made that transition easy for us. my son will be leaving a well rounded and confident little boy. I have recommended Hemsley numerous times. it's a wonderful setting with amazing people.

I find this nursery incredibly helpful and very caring towards my little boy. They teach him everything he needs to know and I am very confident that he is ready for primary school and this is down to all the staff in the nursery. I will be sad to see my little boy leave for school as me and my little
boy have a great bond with the staff. Would highly recommend this nursery.

My little boy has been attending the nursery for a few years now although it seems like a few months, he still gets very exited to see all the staff and his friends. Both my son and myself have always been made to feel very welcome and fully updated with Max's progress at the nursery. I love the fact
there are many different activities for my son to take part in and the staff go to great lengths to make sure the children are engaged and are having fun. This was the first and last nursery I looked at for my son, I didn't need to go elsewhere; the homely feel made me fall in love instantly. I couldn't rate the staff there any higher. I'm dreading the end of this year when my little one will be moving on but I've very thankful for how confident my little boy is now. This nursery has set him up for big school in many ways. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.695)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.695) out of 10 for Hemsley House Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.407 for Hemsley House Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.407
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.288 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hemsley House Nursery School is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 82 number of registered child places is 16.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.4 = 0.488
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
