Hemsley House Nursery School is split between two beautifully converted, large Victorian homes in Maidstone, Kent.

Educators at Hemsley House Nursery School are experienced in providing premium care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old, achieving an Outstanding Ofsted rating (December 2022). They adopt a hybrid approach to education, combining the EYFS framework with their own Storal curriculum. The cosy, home-from-home learning environments provide opportunities for wonder and stimulation. Its calm and cosy sensory room is especially beneficial for children with learning difficulties.

We're extremely happy with this nursery. The staff and management are kind, supportive, and attentive, helping with everything from daily needs to potty training support. It feels like a second home for our child, and we've seen great positive growth. Highly recommended.

Pre school team of Alison and Blossom has helped my son settle in very well after he moved from a different nursery. Sophie made this transition really easy for us as a family, always available to answer any questions that we had.

Both my children attend Hemsley House and massively enjoy their time there. The staff are great and friendly, with efficient handover information given when collecting. The activities my kids are involved in are great and the variety of food received is healthy and balanced.

Hemsley House is an absolutely wonderful nursery. The team are incredibly nurturing, caring, and attentive, creating such a warm and supportive environment for the children.
As a parent of a child with additional needs, the support we have received has been outstanding. The staff go above and beyond
to ensure every child feels included, supported, and valued.
A special mention to the SENCO, Sophie, who has been amazing. She is always approachable, takes the time to listen, and is incredibly helpful when discussing any concerns or supporting with forms and guidance. Her dedication and care truly make a difference.
I couldn't recommend Hemsley House highly enough - it's a fantastic nursery with a team that genuinely cares about every child and family.

I found this little nursery when I moved to the area with my son and it was THE best choice. Not only has my son thrived whilst he's been under the care of the Hemsley Team, they have provided me with unwavering support. They work WITH me and not against me (something I found with his previous nurseries).
They listen and respond and ALWAYS have my son's best interests at heart. Hemsley is the best choice and I'm so glad I chose them.

My daughter attend this nursery since October 2025. From beginning of her journey she was welcomed by her new nursery members with love, kindness and care. Although I went through lots of difficult times, Claire the manger was very kind, supportive and understanding with my needs , and she was able
to help with all the invoices, funding options and even writing a letter to support my daughter's benefit entitlement. I am truly grateful for all their support.

Had some issues with this nursery after discovering breast milk had been discarded without any prior communication from staff. We had not been made aware of their policy around breast milk when we signed up and so had been sending daughter into nursery with the milk in a bottle, which was emptied out.Communication
with management was poor and was unable to organise a meeting to discuss this before we decided to look for somewhere else. When we handed notice of cancellation we were initially invoiced 8 weeks worth of fees to cover the notice period but after checking website T&Cs I found the notice period was 6 weeks. When I queried this, I was told it was an "oversight". All in all ended up costing us over £800 for 2 settle sessions and a couple days of care. Expensive mistake but glad we changed as daughter seems much happier and settled at new nursery.

Our daughter started here at Hemsley House Nursery School in June, being a first time mum who was going back to work and moving to a new area I was very anxious about leaving her in childcare and wanted to make sure we chose the right place for our child.
Hemsley house has been a dream, the staff
are so welcoming and friendly and my daughter felt comfortable so quickly. The staff work so hard to create a happy fun environment for the children and our little girl is thriving there.
We get daily updates with photos showing her playing or dancing along, she is learning new words daily and her interaction with everyone is wonderful!

She gets so excited when she sees her key workers and is always so happy during her time here! Working long hours I don't ever have to worry about her care or welfare, they treat our daughter like one of their own!

We are so so pleased we picked Hemsley house for our daughters first years at nursery, thank you for being fabulous!

All the team have been amazing with my 20-month-old daughter starting in the nursery. She is really well settled, she goes in happy, engages in lots of different activities, and has lots of fun in the garden. The baby room teachers especially have been really supportive when I have been unsure or worried
about my daughter settling. Really happy with the nursery so far

Really good nursery with very lovely staff. I always have peace of mind dropping my son off. Only moving due to him starting pre-school. Thorough handovers and daily updates.
The food there is always nutritious, I love seeing all the fresh fruit and food being delivered and their onsite chef who is
always making delicious meals for the kids.
Well run nursery and would definitely recommend.

This is a nursery of 2 halves, literally. The babies unit in one location and the toddlers in another. I cannot fault the baby unit, the care was outstanding and we were always quickly informed of any issues (ie: bumps and bruises, potential illness etc.) Unfortunately this did not continue in the
toddlers unit. The turnover of staff there was huge, we had several different key workers, which made it very difficult to know who to talk to. Also there was a behavioural issue with another child, my daughter was competently verbal at a young age and frequently came home reporting that she, and her friends, had been hit/pushed/kicked and generally assaulted by a particular child. I asked various members of staff to pay closer attention or keep them apart but they said they were busy and nothing changed. Since this experience she is much more timid around other children and I worry about the impact this has had on her. My advice would be either only send your child to the baby unit, or just avoid totally.

I have two grandchildren at Hemsley House, and I'm so delighted at how much they enjoy their time here. (It's always tough to wave goodbye, to begin with, but this is such a happy place!)
My four-year-old loves the opportunities to play and learn: he has been supported to try new things both inside
and outside - the large garden area is one of his favourites and he enjoys the wide range indoors too. It's great that he's able to go back to familiar toys and games as well.
He's become very fond of his key person and other staff members because they are caring and really work hard to get to know their children.
Plenty of time to play alongside other children and he's made lots of friends.
My 11-month-old has settled well too, thanks to the kind and sensitive care from staff and I feel lucky that Hemsley House is her nursery!
Thanks so much to the knowledgeable and committed senior team and room leaders who keep the children so happy. Definitely a nursery to recommend.

I can't explain how pleased we are that we moved my son to Hemsley House after issues with settling at one of the larger chains. The staff are absolutely amazing, they all have taken the time to get to know him, even those who aren't his key worker or with him every day, every message I give on drop-off
is relayed to all staff and they always try their utmost to meet my requests. My son has settled in so well here and I completely trust all his needs are taken care of and I will be contacted if there are any issues. He spends a lot of time outside in the garden, which he loves and is always happy and well-fed when I pick him up. A good level of updates are provided via the app, especially during his settles which provided so much reassurance and we always receive a detailed download in person at the end of the day too. So glad we found the nursery and would definitely recommend it!

My daughter has attended Hemsley House Nursery since the age of seven months, and my experience has always been positive - from the baby room to young toddlers and with the transition to older toddlers. All of the staff got to know our little girl really well, very quickly and we laughed and enjoyed
the milestones together. My daughter comes out of nursery well-fed, happy and with lots of stories about the fun activities she has done, all the friends she has been with and the lovely adults she has spent time with.

My daughter has attended both the baby and toddler unit at Hemsley House, and I cannot fault either. The staff are incredible, attentive and supportive and have contributed massively to my daughter's learning, development and social skills. They are always on hand to help and have provided invaluable
advice and guidance in milestones such as nap dropping and potty training. My daughter enjoys every day at ‘big nursery’ and is always telling me about the amazing activities she does and the delicious food she eats!

Our daughter has attended Hemsley House Nursery and Pre-School for 18 months and absolutely loves it!
All the staff are always helpful and caring.
The facilities are well kept and we love the fact it’s based in two former residential houses, which adds a real homely feel.
Various fun activities
are provided for the children daily. We especially love the outdoor facilities and the fact the children are encouraged to be outdoors as much as possible.
Overall we would highly recommend Hemsley House.

Thank you to all the Young Toddlers staff for all of your guidance, care and learning through play which you have done with our little one this year. The staff at Hemsley House are great facilitators, whose input, has helped to shape our daughter into the lovely girl she is becoming. She really enjoys
nursery and it is a big part of her weekly routine; talking about the nursery staff, at home, as her friends. The time and emotional energy given every day is very much appreciated!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.128)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.128) out of 10 for Hemsley House Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.682 for Hemsley House Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (129 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.682
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.446 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hemsley House Nursery School is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 82 number of registered child places is 16.4. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.4 = 0.671
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
