Partou Bumpkins Day Nursery & Pre-School holds an Outstanding Ofsted rating (July 2023) and is set in the beautiful rural village of Whaddon, serving families across Royston, Bassingbourn, Meldreth and the surrounding Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire border. The nursery operates across two sites within the village, with babies and two year olds at Bridge Street and pre-school children a short walk away on Meldreth Road, both with parking available.

Two separate sites mean each age group benefits from an environment designed specifically for their stage of development, from calm, nurturing spaces for the youngest children through to a self-contained pre-school focused on building the confidence and independence needed for school.

The standout feature is Nature Rangers, the nursery's forest school, which was shortlisted for Outdoor Learning Environment of the Year at the 2024 National NMT Nursery Awards. Pre-school children have free-flow access throughout the day to a space that includes a cabin classroom, sandpit, firepit area, mud kitchen, bug houses, herb garden, mud mound, obstacle course and bird lookout house. Covering all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, it gives children daily opportunities to explore, take managed risks and develop physically, socially and emotionally.

The nursery chef has been with Partou Bumpkins for ten years, producing healthy, nutritious meals freshly prepared on site from a seasonal rolling menu. Mealtimes are treated as an important social experience and part of the early years day.

I am so happy we decided to send our son to Bumpkins. He was a lockdown baby and has benefitted greatly from the interaction with other children. The staff have managed Covid restrictions so well, under tricky circumstances. I drop him off knowing he is in good hands. The staff are fantastic, especially
in handling the transition into nursery, and then each new room, with sensitivity and care. He loves the staff, the outdoor space and all the messy play and creative activities. I appreciate the daily updates and periodic reviews too - he is learning so much. I can’t recommend it highly enough! Thank you!

The Bumpkins Nursery team are amazing. Both my children have attended and both have loved the time they have spent there from 11 months all the way up to preschool age. My youngest was very timid when she first started going because of lockdown and they have brought her out of her shell so much and
they have taken the pandemic in their stride. Thank you ladies for the awesome job you have done and the time you have spent with both my children.

Our son absolutely loves going to Bumpkins. Having moved areas he had a lot to adjust to leaving his old home/nursery and settling at a new one but the staff have been so great that he settled straight away! Love that they spend so much time outdoors and also how engaged the staff are with parents.

My son blossomed at Bumpkins Nursery. Great facilities and wonderful staff. The staff are caring and interactive. I felt at ease knowing my son was there daily and was well-taken care of. He was happy there and learned a lot.

I cannot even begin to try and put into words just how amazing everyone is at Bumpkins. For my Son to be so excited every time he went and how happy he was when he came home is just beyond expectation. Nature Rangers made all the difference. Sending our son to Bumpkins Nursery and preschool was the best decision we have made for him, especially as during lockdown he was still able to enjoy such a wonderful nursery and outside spaces; both at the nursery and preschool. In particular, he loved nature rangers and spending time outdoors playing
and learning.
I cannot fault any of the staff. They have all been so friendly, keen and interested in making my son’s experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. It has taken him a while to come out of his shell and gain confidence and the staff at the preschool have given him patience, time and opportunity to express himself. He has now just started school full of confidence.
The activities are varied and interesting, the resources and facilities are great and the food is of great quality and variety.


Thank you in particular to the staff in Dragonflies who, over the past year or so, have been fantastic.

Our son absolutely loves every moment spent at Bumpkins and seeing him thrive here has been everything we could have ever wanted. The team have been so encouraging, supportive and are really in sync with his personality and needs. They’ve made a really positive impact on his development and confidence,

Bumpkins have been amazing for my daughter, who was a lockdown baby so had met very few people before needing to start childcare so I could return to work. They managed intro sessions really well and were so flexible with these. She has settled in so quickly and loves her two days a week there. We get
updates through the day and I’m not worrying about anything because I know the staff would be in touch immediately if needed. Thank you Bumpkins for making a nerve-wracking time so easy, and for looking after our daughter so well.

Bumpkins have been absolutely amazing from the time my son joined in October 2020. My son has some different needs and the team were absolutely wonderful in accommodating everything for him and making sure he is safe and happy at all times. I cannot thank them enough, really. As parents, it is always
difficult to choose a place to leave our children for daycare and with Bumpkins the decision was very easy. They immediately made us feel very comfortable and part of the "family" and I could tell straight away that my son was happy going there. The care received is great, in every way. The stimulation with all sorts of toys and also learning stuff in preparation for school; the detailed observations that we receive about our son's behaviour and interests; the careful planning of activities; the wonderful outdoor playing area; everything is excellent really.
I couldn't recommend it enough. Thank you all for your wonderful efforts.

As parents, it can be extremely daunting choosing a suitable nursery to send your one-year-old to; all of a sudden, you are putting your child in the hopefully safe hands of others for a whole day/multiple days a week! However, as soon as we visited Bumpkins this time last year, that choice was made
for us and we knew instantly we wanted our son to join. From the lovely, bright welcoming rooms, the delicious home-cooked food, to the welcoming and friendly staff, it was a no brainer for us.


He has absolutely loved his first year and has developed into such a sociable, happy, confident little boy, and so much of that is down to his time spent with the incredible staff and other children at Bumpkins. The fact that he can watch tractors go by from the window, walk up to feed the chickens in the field, play outside in the sandpit and do lots of sensory play (and that's just the morning activities!) is just lovely.

Both our children have had a fantastic experience at Bumpkins. The facilities and location are great with lots of outdoor play. We have felt confident that our children have been well looked after and enjoyed their day, with lots of fun activities. The frequent updates on the online portal are lovely

I could not be happier with the service provided at Bumpkins. My son started when he had huge separation anxiety and became so painfully shy with lockdown but after a few months, he is like a different child. He is so much more chatty and sociable. He has made some lovely friends. I am also amazed by
how the staff help Hugo with his development and how quickly he picks things up. I would highly recommend Bumpkins and am delighted that they are sharing a role in my son’s upbringing.

My 1-year-old granddaughter started at Bumpkins Day Nursery in the middle of very difficult times because of COVID-19. She had never been away from her mum and was very clingy but familiarisation sessions just weren’t possible. Despite being a little “lost” initially, it really wasn’t long before she
was happy to be left and clearly having a lovely time. This is all credit to the staff at Bumpkins who have made an anxious time for both mum and baby a truly positive experience. Thank you.

My daughter has been at Bumpkins Day Nursery for just over a year and it has been an amazing experience for her, she absolutely loves her time there and it has made her confidence grow so much. When we were first viewing nurseries we were looking for a ''good feel'', a home from home feel and we definitely
got that here. All of the staff make the nursery what it is, they all look so genuinely happy to be there and know my daughter's personality so well. I love that the nursery take special occasions like nursery photos, Halloween and Christmas as an importance and get everyone excited for them. It is so nice to know my child is with people who we trust and care for her.

I have had 2 children go to Bumpkins Day Nursery from 12 months old until leaving to go to primary school. We’ve always been really happy with it. The preschool have a wonderful Nature Rangers field (forest school), which is a great difference to many other childcare settings. The main nursery also
has chickens, tractors etc to see, which our children loved. The food is varied and healthy. Our children ate much better there than at home! The range of activities is large. Although Bumpkins is larger than some other nurseries, it has a lovely, kind feel to it, compared to some of the other places we’ve visited.


I would also like to say that the way the management have handled the COVID situation this year has been very impressive.


We’re very pleased with Bumpkins Day Nursery and our children have been really happy there.

My son has loved his time at Bumpkins Day Nursery so far, the staff are all friendly and welcoming and I’m especially impressed that everybody knows his name and his character, including the nursery manager and deputy manager.


The staff have managed the COVID restrictions well and have a good system

in place to protect children and parents and I imagine staff as well.


My son has developed so many new skills since starting nursery, you can really see the difference it is making to his learning.


There is lots of messy play and the children spend lots of time outdoors which is great. I love seeing his artwork in his bag at the end of the day!

Very professional, the staff genuinely care about the children and their well being, lots of fun activities and focus on development, very reliable and arranging when possible. Trust them entirely with my children. The nursery is within the countryside so the children can go outside often and walk along
the farm tracks, see some chickens.

My eldest daughter went to a nursery that acted as a chain and although happy with the care the staff provided, it always felt impersonal and lacked flexibility. Bumpkins Day Nursery really is different, for a start every member of the team introduces themselves. They all know and care about my son,
even if they are not directly working with him. I found the introduction process during the pandemic to be 'brutal', because it had to be, but the flexible approach taken by Bumpkins meant that I felt supported. The access to an app with pictures and updates was new for me and offered heaps of reassurance. The staff in the office are also brilliant around paperwork queries. The processes are thorough without feeling intrusive. And the most important factor of all, my son loves it, he’s so happy to go. Genuinely, they all care. We’re glad we took the chance and went with a new setting.
