Hopscotch Portswood, situated in a residential area convenient for local families, offers reliable and quality childcare in a spacious, welcoming and well-resourced environment.

The team work hard to ensure children are happy during their time at the nursery, encouraging their confidence, curiosity and self-esteem through consistent support and guidance. With a focus on play-led learning, the team celebrate children as individuals, encouraging them to learn through their own interests, wants and needs.

With a mix of child and adult-led experiences, the team also ensure every child is offered high-quality interactions and strive to be positive role models.

The manager, deputy manager, and whole team at the nursery are passionate about providing support to children, their families and the surrounding community.

My child has been at Portswood Hopscotch for 18 months, and I wouldn't have her anywhere else! They have always been so patient with her, especially during the first few months when she didn't want to leave me. She has grown so much in confidence and has become a real social butterfly. Communication
has always been brilliant, and the updates are heartwarming. Most importantly, she skips into nursery now and can't wait to see all her friends.
The new garden is fantastic - the kids love it.

My son has been attending the baby room at Hopscotch’s Portswood setting for 7 months now. It was initially difficult for me to be away from him, but seeing the love and care he receives makes it easier for me! Whilst I’m at work I regularly refer to the app for updates and sometimes forget that he’s
at daycare. I know that he is being looked after and that they take his development seriously. The babies engage in educational activities and I love seeing their updates. The staff are friendly and engaging. He enjoys eating the food there and I will be using some of their recipes!

Our children are very happy at this nursery. They are clearly stimulated throughout the day and enjoy a broad range of activities and foods. Individual needs in terms of feeding are catered to. The new garden is a fantastic addition. All the staff are lovely and kind, they know the children and the
children trust them. The safe storage for prams outside is really helpful for different parents doing the pickup/drop-off.

My daughter started nursery when she was 14 months old and settled in really quickly! She bonded with her key worker straight away which made drop-off in the mornings much easier as she was excited to go for breakfast. It is great being sent updates and photos throughout the day to see what she is up
to and what she has eaten (the menu is incredible!). I am really excited for the playground to open as my daughter will love this!
When I drop my daughter off in the morning I feel really confident that she's going to have a great day and the best care. I really recommend Hopscotch Nursery.

Like most first-time parents, I was absolutely dreading the day my child started nursery, but the moment I stepped foot into Hopscotch, I was immediately at ease with the way my child just walked in and felt comfortable enough to play straight away (which is very rare) really settled my nerves. I couldn’t
recommend this nursery enough. The staff are all amazing, even if they’re not working directly with your child they all know her by name and always very welcoming. It’s such a lovely family vibe there and I honestly couldn’t ask for more. Since starting in September my child has come on leaps and bounds in every aspect. This nursery really is special! The communication every day is fabulous.

My daughter started Hopscotch Portswood in September after a bad experience with another nursery I was very anxious but the manager was so welcoming and understanding (my daughter is nonverbal and Autistic). The staff are all so friendly and lovely. A particular member of staff is her 121 and always
gives a thorough handover which is amazing, she seems to know my daughter so well already. I’m so happy with how she has settled at preschool, she really seems to enjoy her time there and she’s happy to go to any of the staff which is so reassuring. She is trying new things with the encouragement of the staff which I appreciate so much. I highly recommend Hopscotch to anyone!

I registered my baby at Hopscotch Portswood end of July for him to start at the beginning of August following an unpleasant experience with another local nursery and had no hope that I would find a good nursery for our baby boy. I booked a tour of the nursery with the Manager who came across as very
confident and helpful showing us around and giving all the information needed without even having to ask questions as she already provided us with the answers.


Whilst looking around I even started crying seeing they have a separate room for babies to sleep in with a dark room and white noise on as this is how our baby sleeps at home. Now we are nearly a month in and all I can say is that this is the best nursery we could have chosen for our baby.


Everything but everything is perfect and outstanding. The staff are amazing and really kind and they get to know them and what they like and try to keep your routine from home.

I strongly recommend this nursery to anyone. My son started at this nursery from the middle of last year and he likes it/them. Every morning he can't wait to go there.

When our 6 month old boy started nursery, we had a lot of trepidation, but Hopscotch Day Nursery Portswood has been absolutely incredible, and we can see how enriching our little boy's daily experience has been. All the carers are so lovely, and it is very apparent how tenderly they treat our son. The
nursery posts many details about his day on the app which is immensely reassuring, and every time when we come to pick him up, it is clear that he has had a full day and has been very well-looked after. Overall our experience has been completely fantastic - I would highly recommend Hopscotch to any parents of young children.

We've had such a positive experience with everyone at Hopscotch Day Nursery! Our little one was only 6 months old when he started so I was quite nervous but the staff has been amazing. I got in touch before he even started as I had some concerns (bottle refusal, contact napping) and the branch manager
was so helpful, gave me some great recommendations and really put my mind at ease. In general, everyone I've spoken to is so sweet and reassuring. We get regular updates and pictures of all the fun sensory activities he gets up to throughout the day. Being so young, he doesn't really have any kind of routine in place and the team has been incredibly accommodating. They even let him fall asleep in their arms before every nap as he sometimes struggles to fall asleep on his own. The facilities are great: they've just gone through a big renovation and have lots of fun toys for all ages. It also always smells super clean when I pick him up. Communication has been super efficient thanks to the app.

Our girl attends Hopscotch four mornings a week and has been going for about nine months which is about when this branch opened. She absolutely loves her time and continues to invite teachers and other children to come on holiday with us.
The team are really friendly and practical which we love. We
went away on holiday and for a couple of months and came back to an even more mature Nursery. Updated processes, more children, more activities, etc. We take our hat off to the team for their hard work!

My daughter absolutely loves it at Hopscotch Day Nursery. She is excited to go in every day, and talks about the great time she shares with friends and staff there (she even talks about it at the weekend!) She does a wide range of activities each day and always enjoys telling me about all the new things
she has learned and the experiences she is having. She plays outside in the lovely garden twice a day and always learns new things through the stories and songs she participates in. Every member of staff is so friendly, professional and caring. The nursery has great communication with parents. My daughter loves the food and enjoys a great healthy freshly cooked meal every day! Cannot fault my experience with Hopscotch.

We couldn't be happier with the warm welcome and care provided for our three boys since they started in September. They absolutely love going to nursery. They are learning so much and talk lots about what they've been up to when they come home. Communication is excellent and the whole team are friendly
and genuinely care about each child. Sending our children here is the best decision we have made and I would highly recommend it.

Our daughter settled in very quickly to Hopscotch and has built great bonds with all staff members, especially her key worker. Every member of the team we have interacted with is caring and has great knowledge of our daughter's day and needs. We receive regular updates with the app which we love and
treasure, seeing the fun activities they get up to. We have also been very impressed with the variety on the menu, which our daughter loves. Our daughter loves the outdoors and currently the space they have is great, but a little small. We look forward to when all the renovations are finished and there is a bigger outdoor space for all the children to enjoy as the plans sounds very exciting!

  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2024

Hello, my name is Becky and I am the Manager of Hopscotch Portswood. I joined the Hopscotch team in 2024 and moved to the Portswood setting in January 2025. I quickly settled into the team and became a manager. I have been primarily preschool-based in my experience but have also been a higher-level teaching assistant in a school setting, having a role as SEN support and helping children learn.

At Hopscotch Portswood, we strive to deliver rich, meaningful interactions which allow children to be creative, show care and courage. We want our children to be happy, confident, and have a clear sense of self and belonging within their world, including their local community. We believe in recognising and celebrating children as individuals, and extending their learning through their interests, wants and needs. Our desire is that children experience play-based learning. Learning that should be fun, engaging and suitably challenging. Adults provide high-quality interactions and create meaningful bonds with their children and our families to ensure they are positive role models for learning and provide a home-from-home experience. We have a beautiful outside space which is used throughout all the weather, and we offer free-flow play to allow children to express their own independence and choice. We have a fabulous team of people with a range of experiences and specialities.

I'm Alice and I am the Deputy Manager here at Hopscotch Portswood, I joined Hopscotch in December 2022 as a Room Leader. As a mum, I am passionate about providing the best quality childcare for our families and enjoy watching the children grow in confidence and seeing them develop over their time with us.
