Tops Day Nurseries: Portsmouth Nursery

Tops Day Nursery used to be a better place especially a few years ago. Once they had a change in management, it is not so lovely anymore. The staff change very often but they are nice and helpful, especially the receptionist, but unfortunately the staff in the office is not so friendly and not very helpful.

My child has been attending nursery since he was 8 months he is now only 17 months but I couldn’t fault the nursery. At first, my son would cry every time I left him, as he is uncomfortable around people. Now he takes his bag from me ready to start with the lovely staff. The staff, who my child has interacted with since being there, have done a wonderful job! They know the majority of things about my son - what he likes/dislikes, when he is tired, when hungry and so on! They have to remember other kids and they are like my child's third home. They make sure when it's sunny, they are out in the garden and my son loves the outside so that's nice to know. The one thing I would change, if it was possible, I understand the staff work from 06:00-20:00 as it is! But as I work in the hospital when working till 20:00 it is hard to try and leave early to get on time so if they made it 20:10 just so I got that little extra time to be there on time and not get charged £30:00.

Great nursery! My little girl settled in very quickly and loves going! The staff are very friendly and very helpful, the communication is good and I enjoy being sent photos of my daughter and seeing the activities she gets up to.

My daughter has been attending this nursery since she was 10 months old. Now at the age of 3, I am very happy that she is not a very shy little girl anymore. Attending this nursery has helped her develop social skills, communication and confidence. She enjoys the variety of activities provided at the nursery. The one aspect which needs improving is taking children for outings on foot or by vehicle. In the 2 years my daughter has been there, she has never been for any outing. And also learning log entries on the parents' app were very regular on a weekly basis until she was in explorers. After which it has been very limited. Overall, I am happy with the flexibility in booking hours and the support given. Thank you.

Amazing nursery! My daughter has been attending Tops Portsmouth since she was 11 months old. She is now 4! We've had a very pleasant experience over the years and have not had any major concerns. It is such a relief and joy to see your child getting excited to go to nursery and hug their teacher with such excitement. It is also very hard to find such a good quality nursery with so much flexibility in the bookings. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for childcare.

Staff and management team are lovely and helpful all the time. My boy really enjoyed his time in the nursery. I noticed how quickly my boy started learning with teachers - songs, numeracy, dance, language. My boy attended nursery since he was two years old. He loved Forest School. There were great facilities, lovely location and dedicated staff. We are pleased with how the team looked after my boy. He developed a lot through play activities at the nursery.

My daughter started at the nursery in September 2020. As a first time mum, I was very nervous about putting my child into a setting on top of the pandemic. I was almost instantly reassured, and the staff team couldn't help me enough in settling my daughter and comforting not only her but myself during this time. She absolutely loves all the staff in the building, and they are always sending me updates of what she is up to throughout the day. We are always greeted with a lovely smile and cuddles! I love that my daughter can go with the staff without worry. If she is going to be upset, they have her routine spot on and will always listen if anything changes. I couldn't think of a better place to send my daughter; thank you so much!

The staff are accommodating. The staff who showed me around have answered all my questions. Very friendly staff.

I have never met a nursery more accommodating to the needs of children and their families. They will always help out when they can.

Lovely nursery with fantastic staff! Our 4-year-old has left to go to school, but the staff have made a lasting impression on her. We still have a 2-year-old at the nursery and she loves it. Other than on their first days, we never had tears at drop off, although sometimes they haven't wanted to come home!

My daughter started at this nursery when she was 10 months old. She started in 'The Nest' and has moved through all the rooms and is now in Pre-School. Every time she moves up a room I think to myself that the next room can't possibly be as good as the one she is leaving. And yet- it has been. Every single time. Management have a talent for hiring excellent staff and giving them the resources to do an amazing job. My daughter loves going to nursery! She is happy and has so much fun and learns amazing things. She does Forest School once a week and after I've fetched her I hear all about their walk, or trip on the bus, or the stones on the beach, or the forest! She has another year before starting school and we are going to be genuinely sad to say goodbye to everyone at Tops. I am so grateful for the time my daughter has had in such an exceptional nursery!

Unfortunately, since June 2020 management is the worst I have ever seen. There is no communication, not being open for people. The atmosphere is heavy and that makes me feel sorry for all staff who is working with children there as they are amazing and don’t deserve that. As a parent, I’m worried about the management having the child's best interests.

My child had been away from nursery for a while but was made to feel as though she had never been away on her return. All the teachers visibly care for all of the children. I couldn’t ask for a better nursery.

We would definitely recommend to other families. All the staff were friendly, professional and approachable. There were some great activities such as forest school which our son loved. All the staff were really helpful when we were experiencing some technical problems and implemented strategies whilst he was at nursery to help this. The only negative point was the cleanliness of the toilet facilities which we felt could have been cleaner. However, on the few occasions we mentioned this, the manager personally addressed the situation.

I highly recommend Tops Nurseries QA! All staff are very friendly and caring, our daughter has been thriving since she started in September. They are also very good with catering for kids that have food allergies.

We would definitely recommend Tops at Portsmouth. They have looked after our son very well and managed his specialist diet without any problems. They have been attentive to his needs throughout the last year!

The staff are very friendly, caring and helpful. I know that once I drop my son off to his class, he is well looked after and being taught new things every day. He has progressed so well since joining Tops day nursery and I’m so pleased with this. My son is very happy here and I would recommend Tops Portsmouth to anyone who is looking for a nursery. 5-stars from me!

Superb, friendly staff, clean rooms, new toys and bright large rooms full of activities.

Took us ages to find somewhere that ticked all the boxes. Glad we kept looking and found Tops.
