Located close to the Old Street Tube station, Co-op Childcare Islington has bright, spacious rooms for each of their age groups. They bring the outdoors inside as they've created a sensory garden area, a beach and an indoor Gruffalo nature walk.

The nursery goes above and beyond for safety which is why ALL its staff are paediatric first-aid trained. They keep parents informed on what their child has been up to all day including observations, assessments, meals, (and even toilet training progress!) using an app called ParentZone.

The team know that little things can make a big difference, so they make sure to give children lots of hands-on experiences through activities such as growing food (and eating it!), and doing their bit for the environment. They will also make regular visits to a local care home and be involved with a global eco-schools programme, making them aware of their environment and local community.

I can't recommend the Co-op Childcare Islington nursery enough! My child is absolutely thriving here. The nursery has an ideal balance of both indoor and outdoor spaces, giving the children plenty of room to play and explore. My son's transition into the toddler room has been smooth, thanks to the wonderful
staff, especially 3 staff members in particular who have been incredibly supportive in helping him settle in. Since joining, his speech has noticeably improved, which I attribute to the engaging and nurturing environment they provide.
The staff are always welcoming, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere each day. The cooks prepare delicious, fresh meals, which is something I really appreciate. The manager is fantastic - she's always available, and I've seen her go out of her way to assist with any queries or concerns. Overall, it's a wonderful place for children to grow and develop, and I feel so lucky to have found such a caring nursery for my son!

My daughter only just started here and she really does enjoy it, which makes me feel at ease.
I am happy I have chosen this nursery for her and love that I can get updates via the app so I can also see what she has been up to or what she has ate throughout the day. The staff have been amazing and
so helpful and give me feedback on every pick up which is also lovely to hear.
Overall so far it has been an amazing experience and would highly recommend to other parents in the area.

We have been sending our daughter to this nursery since she was 7 months old and now she is three years old. Overall we are very pleased with the nursery, especially when we realise how much she is learning and developing there. One important factor for us is that the type of food the children are eating
there is healthy and has a big variety. Our daughter is a very picky eater at home but at nursery she is eating everything that she is not eating at home. Another important thing for us was that she is not exposed much to technology at nursery and like this she can really focus on being with friends, interacting with people and developing her personality. When there are any issues, we can work together with the nursery staff to ensure these are paid attention to and over time corrected. Overall our experience was great with the nursery, our daughter really likes going there every day and we can highly recommend it.
Reply from Amanda Williams, Manager at Co-op Childcare IslingtonWe are so pleased that you are happy with the care we provide and our healthy food cooked on-site by our wonderful chef. I am so glad that you recognise the values we uphold and how we celebrate children's individuality.

Both of my children assist in the nursery - one is still going. Management and staff are very helpful, and they care about the development of the children. The nursery setting is great, and I love the fact that they have their own garden, so they don't have to take the children outside, like other nurseries.
The food is amazing, and my little one likes all the provided food. It's a very nice thing that they do when the children start preschool and leave the butterfly room. I can also notice how my little one express herself and how much her going to the nursery contributed to that.

My child was transferred from another nursery to the Islington nursery. He has been there for a few months now and I can see a very big difference in him. He's talking and a bit more independent. He's made friends at this nursery whereas the other nursery he didn’t have friends. The staff take time
to get to know your child and give me a lot of feedback at every pick up each day. The staff are organised and ready to teach your child something new each day. The parent app is fantastic and I check in on this a couple of times a day to see what he's been up to. I can’t fault anything they do at the nursery as I know my child is in good hands with the professionally trained staff. Keep up to good work!

Overall a lovely experience and I would highly recommend to other parents! My 12-month-old started nursery a few months ago and from day one we felt that the nursery staff listened closely to our instructions and showed genuine care, which in turn helped our boy settle in that much faster. We also like
the flexibility in terms of allowing the children to nap on their own schedule (rather than being forced to conform to a strict schedule) and softly encouraging their weaning journey rather than rushing it. It's also nice that we can pick our son up straight from his nursery room rather than having him brought outside - it's fun to see the babies in action and chat to staff! The food seems varied and healthy, and there is a good mix of activities (though might be nice to do more music), and a generous outdoor space. The fees are also very reasonable for the neighbourhood. Overall it feels like the nursery provide a caring, stable and professional environment for little ones. Thank you!

Finding a nurturing nursery for our children was crucial as working parents. We discovered a warm and loving environment where our kids have thrived since they were 4/5 months old. The highly qualified staff's dedication to creating a nurturing atmosphere is evident in their genuine passion for working
with children. Our kids feel safe and secure, giving us peace of mind. The nursery's commitment to individualized attention has had a profound impact on our children's development. They were cooperative when we implemented sleep training. Their pragmatic approach to working parents sets them apart, offering flexible drop-off and pick-up times and open communication. The well-rounded curriculum enhances cognitive, physical, and social skills through engaging activities. We highly recommend this exceptional nursery for its care, focus on working parents, and commitment to individualized attention.

Such lovely staff. Our daughter went there for four months until we had to move out of London. The staff really went out of their way to help our daughter settle. The manager was literally always there working extra hours. I would often find my baby in her arms when I would pick her up. We got to know
three staff members in particular who all seemed to work nonstop - and really developed a relationship with our baby. Our baby especially loved one of them in particular. The garden is great! And so rare for that area.

My son joined Little Pioneers when he was 18 months old and still attends now at 3 and a half years old. Overall, we have been very happy with his experience at the nursery. I believe that the staff truly cares for our son and to me, this is the most important aspect when selecting a nursery. We are
also thankful that the staff has never lost any of his personal belongings, which I hear is a significant issue in other places.
I would say our only concern over the past few years at Little Pioneers has been related to staffing difficulties. However, from what I understand this is an issue pretty much anywhere you go. We are very grateful to the team and management for providing such great care for our son.
Reply from Amanda Williams, Manager at Co-op Childcare IslingtonThank you so much for your review. We are so pleased that you are happy with the nursery and we will endeavour to keep our 100% record and not lose any of his belongings.
We accept that since Covid we have had staffing issues which have been shared across the country with all nurseries. However, we have been lucky to recruit some wonderful colleagues and will keep working hard to build on this.

Very good installations. Amazing and dedicated people who really show their care for children. They could have more focus on physical exercise and music, more sharing of pictures and more parent meetings to get to know each other.

My daughter has been at Co-op Childcare Islington Day Nursery since January. She is my first child and when she started she was only 4-months-old so it was a big deal for me. From day one, the staff reassured me and made sure I knew my daughter was taken care of. That really helped and I also noticed
that since she is going there my daughter is more curious and learning things much faster. I am extremely happy with Co-op Childcare Islington.

Thank you very much to all staff in the nursery, especially the early year's teacher, office administrator and the manager. I feel very calm and confident to leave my son in the nursery since they have made me feel that my son is in very good hands. Regarding educational development, my son learns new
things every day.

Our daughter has been at Co-op Childcare Islington for the last couple of years. The experience from the first day has been excellent. The staff are friendly, they listen to our concerns and answer questions promptly. More importantly, our daughter has really enjoyed her time there, the staff have really
looked after her and it's nice to see genuine affection towards her. She has had such a fun time and lots of great experiences; I'm sure she will be sad when she eventually leaves.

This is a wonderful nursery and is relatively cost-effective by central London standards. My little daughter has gone for 2 years, 2-4, and has absolutely thrived even during lockdown. It deserves an outstanding OFSTED, the staff couldn’t be warmer and are genuinely caring of the children.
There is
a lot of continuity of staff too - even though in London things can chop and change a lot. We’re a little sad to say goodbye but I’m sure we will say ‘hello’ sometimes.

I would describe the nursery as having kind and professional staff, and a thorough approach to health and safety and child welfare. The facilities and space are fine also. There is outdoor space which is a bonus too. It is local and has a community feel. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

I am very happy with Co-op Childcare Islington nursery. My son has been attending for the last year and loves going each morning.
His speech, reading, spelling have all improved as well as his interaction with other children. He frequently says his teachers and peers names when talking about nursery
at home. He loves the day's activities, singing, reading, painting, water play etc. I also like that the nursery has a great outdoor area.
The level of communication I have received is great and I feel fully informed about his progress with 1 to 1 key person interviews, daily reports when picking him up and also frequent emails about nursery life in general.
I am happy with how all the staff have dealt with Covid-19, we were only impacted at the very start of the pandemic when they were required to close but I was extremely happy with the support and updated information the nursery gave. I highly recommend this nursery.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.895)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.895) out of 10 for Co-op Childcare Islington is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.895 for Co-op Childcare Islington is calculated as follows: ( (248 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 4.895
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Co-op Childcare Islington is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 number of registered child places is 15.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
