WHAT WE ARE LEARNING - WEEK COMMENCING 11TH MAY 2026

Clever Cats & Clever Kittens This week in Preschool we have been focusing on numbers – counting, grouping, matching numbers to symbols and working on our number bonds which means adding or taking away one initially. We have also been looking at recognising numbers and writing them.

Please make a point of practising this at home, looking at numbers finding out how many you have of a certain item and adding or taking away one – this can be people, cutlery, plates, toys, cars that are passing you – quite literally anything that could be counted around you!

Next week we will be thinking about starting school and talking about our feelings relating to school, initially we are having our first few teachers visiting us who are supporting transitions.

Ladybirds Next week, the Ladybirds are going to be learning all about uniformed services and the important jobs people do to help us every day. We will explore different uniforms through role play, dressing up and imaginative play, pretending to be firefighters, police officers and doctors. We are also creating themed crafts and listening to stories about people who help us with help from pictures.

Butterflies Next week in the Baby Room we will be celebrating International Day of Families by looking at family photographs and recognising the special people in our lives. The babies will be encouraged to explore and point to familiar faces while staff model simple language and support them in saying single words such as “Mummy,” “Daddy” or siblings names. Through songs, conversations and picture sharing, we will help the children build confidence in their communication skills while recognising and celebrating all families.
