At Maggie’s the team believe that every child deserves a nurturing and stimulating environment where they can play, grow, learn, and thrive. Children should spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors being nurtured with nature, feeling free to run and explore vibrant, natural spaces. That’s why at Maggie’s they seize every opportunity to be outside, with children frequently enjoying the forest school, alfresco dining and outdoor sleeping.

Over the past 5 years, Maggie’s @ Oakwood has evolved to become one of the UK’s leading nurseries. Formerly part of Children 1st Day Nurseries, and created by Children 1st’s founder Margaret Mason OBE, the nursery now exists to provide children with an unparalleled nursery experience in an award-winning environment.

From thoughtfully designed playrooms to the enriching, award winning outdoor play areas and forest school, every aspect of the nursery is crafted to inspire curiosity and foster a love of learning. They are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and joyful space where children can explore their interests and develop their unique talents, preparing them for a bright and successful future.

Kindness is one of their core values, they strive to foster an atmosphere of empathy, respect, and inclusivity, where every child learns the importance of kindness and compassion towards themselves and others.

The team would love to meet you and your little one so that you can experience the setting.

My children fully enjoy their time here! Always a different activity to take part in, various rooms and areas to explore - the tinkering room, music room, baking room, math room, art area, construction area, huge garden, and of course the amazing forest. Children are involved in animal care and my children
absolutely adore the goats! The staff are great! A 5-star nursery all around!

Henry loves going to nursery. He talks about all his teachers and lots of the wonderful things he gets up to at nursery. He gets to experience a wide range of activities from forest school to baking.

From the moment I walked into this nursery I felt at home and at ease. The staff, the building all felt very secure and gave me that warm homely feeling. No other nursery I had visited gave me that and it’s so important when you are leaving your child all day for the first time. The children were all
happy and singing, playing with the vast amount of toys and activities, having so much fun.
My son has grown and flourished so much since attending Children 1st. His speech, his understanding and his confidence, I couldn’t ask for anything more. He loves all the staff too and often talks about them outside of nursery.
All the facilities are unbelievable they have everything you could ever wish for as a child. That coupled with the fact the staff are so lovely, friendly and supportive you really have got it all.
I am so blessed my son has his place here and I cannot recommend Children 1st enough, love it as much as my boy does, thank you so much every one.

Every single person who works at Children 1st is incredible. They know every single child’s name as they walk in, they ask about their mornings/weekends and ask if they’re okay.
They clearly take pride in the work they do; at pick up they clearly tell me what my child has been up to, what they’ve
eaten, played with, sleep etc. Any queries I have are answered on the spot clearly and succinctly. If there are 5 parents all at pick up at the same time there’s no pushing the child out the door - everyone gets the same amount of time.
My child has been quite late with every major milestone and the support I and he has received from all the staff has been amazing.
I would never not recommend Children 1st. I know my child is a better person for being in such a supportive environment.

My son has been attending Children 1st @ Oakwood for 6 months and in that time I have been blown away by the staff, facilities, the activities they do with the children, the food and more!
My little boy absolutely loves going and has come on leaps and bounds.
It can feel quite daunting when you
first drop them off but the staff are brilliant and my son adores them all. It really is home from home.

I feel so fortunate to send our 3 year old daughter to Children 1st Oakwood. She absolutely adores the staff, the environment and thrives being there.
It's a stunning building and grounds, well thought out, and the children who experience the facilities, such as the forest, are incredibly lucky!
Everything is high quality and children-centred. It's the best learning environment I have seen. The activities are creative, interactive, fun, and thank you for putting on special events for parents to attend. The potty training and behaviour workshops were incredibly helpful. Everyone works so hard and it feels like a community, even amongst the other parents. Thank you to all the staff, who are second to none, and who I trust wholeheartedly with my daughter. I just wish she could stay longer, say until she is 18?

(On a separate note, the car park and busy road makes getting in and out challenging; I've seen a couple of car accidents.)

I cannot recommend Children's 1st Oakwood enough as a childcare setting. Every single staff member has gone above and beyond to support us and our children, since our very first day with them. The setting itself is outstanding, with amazing resources, and the children genuinely love the nursery and
their key workers.

My little boy started here at nursery age in 2019. My experience has been beautiful. It's like watching a caterpillar sprout into a butterfly. It has been an amazing journey watching my son thrive and grow into the creative, clever, happy little boy he is. On all occasions management and nursery staff
have been highly supportive and understanding, staff have always encouraged positive and creative learning outcomes for my child. I would suggest from my experience they should all be highly recognised for promoting different ways of learning to support each individual's needs. They have always provided effective communication between parents, staff and children. I am so very thankful that my child spent these years at this Nursery. Thank your for giving my son educational skills and the practical experience to allow him to positively move into his next chapter at school. Thank you so much. Highly recommended. My son attended from 2019 to 2023.

Our daughter started nursery in January at Children 1st @ Oakwood and she has loved every minute. The facilities and activities available to the children are second to none and she really connects with her key worker. We have been really happy with the ongoing observations and feedback we receive and
that is reflected by the big smile our daughter gives us when we pick her up. We are very happy to have chosen this brilliant nursery.

This is the equivalent of a five-star resort as daycare for my daughter.
She absolutely loves going and is happy when I drop her off and also when I collect her which speaks more than words.
The premises and grounds are beautiful and very well-kept. Everywhere is always spotless and it instils confidence
that my daughter will be safe in the environment.
The staff are the real credit to this nursery. Always enthusiastic and make my daughter feel like the most important child in the nursery! They feel comfortable to share any concerns with confidence and support attached instead of delivering it with a negative and quick to also give me a full brief on positive aspects of the day also. They give me the time of day, even at busy times like drop off and collection which reassures me that the level of care is above and beyond expectation.
Overall, an excellent nursery which I feel proud to have chosen for my daughter

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.958)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.958) out of 10 for Maggie's Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.958 for Maggie's Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (436 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 455 Ratings = 4.958
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Maggie's Nursery is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 160 number of registered child places is 32, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
