Meadowside Preschool offers children aged 2 to 8 years a setting where they learn through play and where they can explore and experience the outdoors on a daily basis.

The preschool is situated in the heart of the community on the West Leigh Infant Primary School grounds in Backwell, which gives children direct access to the school playing fields and an undercover classroom attached to the nursery.

Meadowside and its caring, passionate and skilled staff create a stimulating environment for all children where they can learn and grow through a child-led curriculum based around being outdoors. Their approach to outdoor learning enables children to experience the world first-hand, regardless of weather, which lets them to develop their imagination, curiosity and senses whilst staying physically active.

Funding & Fees

Hourly rate for privately paid fees is £6.50 per hour (excluding 7.30am- 8.00am as this is charged at £6.50 for 30 mins).

We accept Early Years Universal and Extended Funding, as well as Tax-Free Childcare and Childcare vouchers. Please speak to the Manager for more details.

My son has a great time at Meadowside and is always happy to be dropped in the mornings. He has lots of friends and a great relationship with all the staff.

Both my boys have attended this nursery over the last 4 years and it is excellent. They really follow the interests of the children, having no problem with helping the kids make dens or go outside even in bad weather. They are always thinking up new ways to help the kids learn through activities that
engage them, like turning big letters into roads to drive cars along. It's not full of plastic toys either but big wooden blocks for building, home corners for role play, they have been known to bring in old phones for the children to take apart which they loved! Sometimes they'll get the small world animals out and make a snow scene with shaving foam and let the kids get messy! They encourage the kids to partake in food preparation and the cleanup and really foster independence. It's a great nursery!

Bridie Gadd

Job Title: Manager of Meadowside Preschool Joined: 2025

Bridie is a passionate leader who has worked for YMCA Dulverton Group for nearly 9 years. During this time, she started as a practitioner and has worked her way up to manager.


Bridie took over the leadership and management of Meadowside in January 2025. Since doing so, she has been an inspiration to the staff and a huge support to the families and children. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and this is reflected in the care and dedication of the team.
