Meadowside Preschool offers children aged 2 to 8 years a setting where they learn through play and where they can explore and experience the outdoors on a daily basis.

The preschool is situated in the heart of the community on the West Leigh Infant Primary School grounds in Backwell, which gives children direct access to the school playing fields and an undercover classroom attached to the nursery.

Meadowside and its caring, passionate and skilled staff create a stimulating environment for all children where they can learn and grow through a child-led curriculum based around being outdoors. Their approach to outdoor learning enables children to experience the world first-hand, regardless of weather, which lets them to develop their imagination, curiosity and senses whilst staying physically active.

We have a long relationship with Medowside having both our son and daughter there over the last few years. We could not be happier with the team, the building and just how happy our kids have been. The team have responded to the needs of our children brilliantly and have a keen child-centred focus,
feedback is well formulated and regular and outcomes are strong. Our kids see Medowside as a safe and happy place to be and full credit to the team for making it so.

Meadowside Preschool is a brilliant and caring pre school where the staff really go above and beyond. Lots of child-led activities by the staff who really make the effort to understand and work with your child. Added bonus of having specialist run football and forest school each week. Can’t fault it.
My children are very happy there.

We couldn't have chosen a better preschool for our daughter, the staff are caring and kind and they did everything to help our daughter settle in and make sure she was happy. The management is also excellent, with great communication with parents. They have lovely outdoor and indoor facilities and they
always follow the interest of the children to enhance their curiosity and learning whilst making sure they have fun. We would definitely recommend it to any other parents. Thank you for the great work you do!

My daughter loves the staff which is the main thing for me. They do forest school, football, and baking each week which my daughter loves. It's in the grounds where she will go to school next year so it should make the transition smoother with her friends going too.
They spend time outside in the fresh
air and go on walks regularly, really making use of the rural surroundings. They regularly update you on your child's progress and are nurturing if they need additional support. I've been really happy since she joined over a year ago.

Amazing nursery. All ladies are so nice, children love them. Great feedback about child development. Forest school running on some days, our boy absolutely loves it! Great quiet rural surroundings.

Meadowside Preschool was recommended to me by a family friend and I couldn’t be more pleased with the support and guidance that they have provided my son. The incredible team at Meadowside Preschool are so hands on and I love hearing about all of the activities that they undertake. If I ever have any
queries the team are very approachable. My son has been at Meadowside Preschool since he was two and a half and will go to the infant school attached in September. It is amazing to see the development and changes in the last two years. My son has recognised his name from an early age with thanks to one member of staff and her team. It still amazes me how high he can count at such a young age, plus the interpersonal skills taught and about the world around them have been priceless. We will miss you in September!

My grandson attends Meadowside Preschool and before he started he was behind with his speech, which they have helped really well with, like getting help from speech and language. Also they have helped improve his social skills. I think it is an excellent setting to prepare children for school.

Both of my children have been to Meadowside and my youngest currently attends. It has been brilliant for both of them. My 3-year-old has really come out of his shell and adores the staff. The activities are varied with plenty of time outside or in the outside play area. They seem to get healthy and
varied meals which my child always eats! The little local trips are great. I also appreciate how they encourage independence e.g. when putting on shoes.

I am so pleased that my children enjoy coming to breakfast club so much. The staff are brilliant and the children always come home with drawings, often inspired by the staff! Today it was solar systems! It makes me very happy to go to work knowing they are in a safe, caring and stimulating environment!

Meadowside is a fantastic preschool which has the children's interests at the forefront of all they do. The children are nurtured and encouraged to show independence at all times. My son has been attending Meadowside for some time now and ever since he joined there from his nursery he has been very happy! He had some issues at his previous nursery and this disappeared very quickly at Meadowside as the level of care and interaction is excellent. His learning and general life skills
improve every day and they are quick to address and potential learning shortfalls and put things in place to help him. They also communicate very well with the parents and keep us regularly up to date via the app which is much appreciated. The staff are all lovely and I genuinely feel like they care about the children which means a lot.

Both my boys have attended this nursery over the last 4 years and it is excellent. They really follow the interests of the children, having no problem with helping the kids make dens or go outside even in bad weather. They are always thinking up new ways to help the kids learn through activities that
engage them, like turning big letters into roads to drive cars along. It's not full of plastic toys either but big wooden blocks for building, home corners for role play, they have been known to bring in old phones for the children to take apart which they loved! Sometimes they'll get the small world animals out and make a snow scene with shaving foam and let the kids get messy! They encourage the kids to partake in food preparation and the cleanup and really foster independence. It's a great nursery!

Bridie Gadd

Job Title: Manager of Meadowside Preschool Joined: 2025

Bridie is a passionate leader who has worked for YMCA Dulverton Group for nearly 9 years. During this time, she started as a practitioner and has worked her way up to manager.


Bridie took over the leadership and management of Meadowside in January 2025. Since doing so, she has been an inspiration to the staff and a huge support to the families and children. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and this is reflected in the care and dedication of the team.
