Woven into the fabric of the school, the multi-award-winning Nursery is a truly special place, made up of three classes – the Bees (age 2), Caterpillars (ages 2-3) and Butterflies (pre-school). Cumnor is the only independent school in Sussex that can offer flexible childcare from 7am to 7pm, 50 weeks of the year, for children aged 2-4. The setting also offers both term-time only and full-time places and up to 30 hours of early years funding.

The environment is second to none. The purpose-built Nursery has direct access to dedicated outdoor space and the wider school grounds beyond, with sweeping views across the South Downs. Flooded with natural light, the Nursery provides a truly wonderful, bespoke space for exploration, creation and discovery through play, without limits.

The staff are highly trained, passionate and experienced, committed to providing the highest standards of care and education in a welcoming, homely atmosphere. They understand and celebrate the unique qualities in every child and go above and beyond to ensure Nursery is an enjoyable and positive experience for all of them.

Funding & Fees

£43* from 8am-6pm including snacks, hot meals and resources (*with 30 hrs funding applied).

Daily rates cover all charges such as meals and snacks, play equipment, stationery, nappies, wipes, sun cream and personal accident insurance. They also cover any specialist lessons such as Swimming, Dance & Movement, Sport, Music, Drama and Woodpeckers (our forest school). A minimum of two booked sessions is required per week.

Cumnor is an amazing nursery. We have seen such positive changes since moving our son here. The environment is perfect for them to learn and grow but I think the most exceptional part is the staff. They are the most engaged, caring and passionate staff who genuinely want to change/promote learning at
every opportunity. I can't imagine a better nursery anywhere.

We recently moved to the area, and our 3-year-old son started at the nursery in January. The transition from him being at home full time with a nanny to being full time at nursery has been seamless.
The team is fantastic, and the setting superb, not to mention the amazing facilities and range of activities.
It’s been exceptional in every way so far, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I cannot say enough how brilliant the Cumnor Nursery and staff are. My child is always happy to go. She started at age 2 and I’ve not once had her cry when I left. The days are planned with multiple learning activities, the staff are engaged, knowledgeable and kind. They focus on all aspects of development.
The facilities are excellent. There is an outdoor forest school area where the children explore. The food is excellent and homemade on site. There is not a negative thing I can say. I love it but more importantly so does my child.

We sent enquiries to a few nurseries following our move to the area but we knew as soon as we visited that we were going to send our daughter to Cumnor Nursery. The grounds, the facilities, the atmosphere, it’s just great. The whole team are absolutely fantastic and offer such a warm, nurturing environment,

My daughter has been in this nursery for two years now and I could not be happier. I have just enrolled my son too. The care is outstanding and the children are offered so many activities. The rooms are bright, clean and colourful and there is so much space to dance, play and run. Their meals are well
balanced, they go outside every day and enjoy time in the woods too on some days. My child could not be in better hands and she always comes out beaming with a thousand stories to tell. I can only praise the dedicated staff and facilities.

Our daughter has previously attended two different nurseries rated good and outstanding by Ofsted and we have visited many more in the process. Cumnor Nursery is head and shoulders above the rest.
As part of Cumnor House, Sussex, the children have access to all of the school’s facilities. This means
the breadth and quality of the experiences the nursery are able to give the children is second to none. They are out every day on long walks exploring the grounds; they use the sports hall for gymnastics and other games with the sport’s teacher; they visit the music room with the music teacher and next term our daughter will be swimming in the onsite pool. This is on top of the usual creative and imaginative play you’d expect.
The team are experienced, mature and always happy and friendly. Many have been there a long time. The nursery is flexible and adaptable and makes the life of a busy parent easier.
Finally, and most importantly, I know our daughter is very happy there.

We have been absolutely bowled over by how fantastic the nursery is. The staff are wonderful, they are genuinely attentive, proactive, inspiring, kind and helpful. So in spite of our son only been there a couple of

I leave my child of a morning happy in the knowledge that she is having a very happy, educational and secure preschool experience. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and obviously liked so much that they are talked about at home. The manager is incredibly experienced and can manage some of my daughter's
behaviours which at times can only be described as challenging. The range of activities offered at such a young age is fantastic and I get reports of dancing lessons, swimming, art, music and sometimes baking. She gets lots of outdoor fun and is always happy to go. I have no reservations about recommending this nursery to anyone.

I would highly recommend Cumnor Nursery, my daughter loves her time there. They have such fun-packed, varied days full of activities that focus on practical learning as well as lots of creative and imaginative play. I would wholeheartedly recommend Cumnor Nursery.
I am so pleased with the care and education that my daughter is receiving.
Particularly at the moment with everything closed, it is fabulous that the children are having such a whale of a time at nursery. The role play that they use as a base for learning
is fabulous and gives such opportunity for development as well as really capturing my daughter's imagination. Having the school facilities means that the current restrictions outside of nursery are much less of an issue.
The staff are hugely experienced and so kind and caring with the children and so helpful with advice if required.
I also feel that the school/nursery are good at taking feedback on board - they certainly aren't resting on their laurels.

We are so pleased with how our 2-year-old son has developed socially and in confidence since starting at Cumnor Nursery in September 2020. My wife and I had concerns about his lack of social interaction following the 2020 lockdowns but the team have been so good with him. The daily updates on the Tapestry
portal show just how happy he has been and is really helpful for us as parents to see what he has been doing during the day and discuss it with him when he comes home. The nursery team are faultless and the new extension to the nursery building looks fabulous.
