Woven into the fabric of the school, the multi-award-winning Nursery is a truly special place, made up of three classes – the Bees (age 2), Caterpillars (ages 2-3) and Butterflies (pre-school). Cumnor is the only independent school in Sussex that can offer flexible childcare from 7am to 7pm, 50 weeks of the year, for children aged 2-4. The setting also offers both term-time only and full-time places and up to 30 hours of early years funding.

The environment is second to none. The purpose-built Nursery has direct access to dedicated outdoor space and the wider school grounds beyond, with sweeping views across the South Downs. Flooded with natural light, the Nursery provides a truly wonderful, bespoke space for exploration, creation and discovery through play, without limits.

The staff are highly trained, passionate and experienced, committed to providing the highest standards of care and education in a welcoming, homely atmosphere. They understand and celebrate the unique qualities in every child and go above and beyond to ensure Nursery is an enjoyable and positive experience for all of them.

The team at Cumnor Nursery believes they have created something quite special, so do please visit the setting. The team would love to show you the wonderful premises, and the kind of nursery experience you and your child could enjoy.

Our third and final child is blossoming in the nursery and not only happy but thriving. She is really enjoying her music lessons and the great adventure walks to the Astro turf! Being able to see her brothers in the dining hall at lunchtime makes her feels part of the whole community and you can see
the impact on her development

My son skips in happily on his days at Cumnor and asks to go on on his home days too! The staff are always friendly, attentive and welcoming and I'm really impressed with the support they are providing to get him recognising colours and letters. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Cumnor Nursery is just the most wonderful place for children to spend their early years. Such a clean, bright, happy environment with very experienced and knowledgeable staff. The children have an enviable range of activities to fill their days; swimming, nature walks, yoga, music, arts & crafts, taking
part in the school shows and a lovely outdoor play area. My son comes bouncing out with a huge smile on his face every day!

As a parent, I honestly couldn't be happier with the nursery. The staff have been warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. It's clear they truly love what they do, and that makes such a difference.
Lilly has grown so much in confidence and she talks excitedly about her day, her friends, and all the
different activities she's been doing. It's been lovely to see her develop socially - she's become more independent, better at sharing, and much more confident expressing herself.
The range of activities they provide are fantastic. Lilly especially enjoys story time, arts and crafts, and Yoga and music sessions. We have noticed real progress in her early learning skills, from counting and recognising numbers to drawing and practising her writing. The balance between structured learning and free play feels just right.
Communication from the nursery has also been excellent. We're kept informed about what the children are learning and how Lilly is progressing.

Fantastic nursery. Great facilities, amazing opportunities for the children, dedicated attention to detail with their learning and general day to day welfare. Cannot recommend them more highly. We've been here for 5 years with three children and its been genuinely brilliant. They are so supportive and
the children have all had a lot of fun there.

We've had such a wonderful experience with Cumnor Nursery. The staff are incredibly caring, patient, and genuinely invested in the children's wellbeing and development. My child is always happy and excited to go in each day, which says everything.
The environment is safe, nurturing, and stimulating,
with lots of engaging activities that support learning through play. Communication with parents is excellent, and it's clear the team really takes the time to know each child as an individual.
We feel very lucky to have found Cumnor nursey and would highly recommend it to any parent looking for a supportive, friendly, and high-quality childcare setting.

Very happy with our choice of nursery one year in. Staff are fabulous so caring and engaged and professional. Individualised care plans for each child. Excellent communication with daily photos and regular email contact with team or Keyworker with any queries and even a video meeting available. Utilise
the main school kitchen so wide range food on offer, hot too and dietary requirements easily handled. Great at coping with anxious parents and shy children! Great facilities with beautiful light modern building plenty of room, lots activities and outside movement and exploration encouraged. Integration with main school seemlessly factored in to kids routines.

This is a fantastic nursery. There are so many factors that make this nursery standout; the teachers, the vast amount of activities and attention to detail on each pupil. Everyone always goes above and beyond and they ensure they strive for the best for all the children. I couldn't recommend this nursery
enough. My little one loves it and is so happy there.

Both of my sons attend Cumnor nursery and I have recommended it to friends. It is a truly special, caring and nurturing place. Both boys attended different settings before Cumnor and it is superior to anything else we have experienced, in both facilities and the staff. Most recently they have helped
my youngest son transition and settle into the Cumnor nursery which has been done with such care.

My oldest is in the top year group and I'm always so impressed by what he has learned and the opportunities and experiences he is given.

I trust the staff implicitly and think the nursery is the best there is, we are very fortunate to have it so close to us!

I couldn't be more pleased with both of my boys experience at Cumnor nursery. The staff are incredibly caring and attentive, always there with a huge smile and a big hug. They always ask what they have been up to and involve family life heavily into school life which is lovely.
The facilities are clean,
bright, and welcoming. The outdoor space is also fantastic - lots of room for the children to explore and play. They mix lots with the older children which I feel really helps them to become comfortable at school and get them ready well in advance of big school.
Overall, I would highly recommend Cumnor to any parent. It's truly a wonderful place for kids to learn and grow!

My child has absolutely flourished at Cumnor Nursery. A shy child, he was very reluctant to mix with others and spent the first couple of weeks at the nursery sitting on the knee of his key worker. However, with care and patience, he began to emerge from his shell. He now loves going to nursery and
joins in with the activities, from games and music lessons to playing outside. He is thriving in the structured but play-focused environment and his confidence grows day by day. I am happy knowing he is safe and cared for while I’m at work, and he is happy making friends and learning new things.

Can’t rate or recommend this nursery highly enough. My son settled quickly and bonded with both teachers and children alike. The staff are so attentive and caring and so creative with the children. The setting is fantastic; light and bright and lots of room for the children to explore, and the grounds
are brilliant for them to go on adventures with the team. Food is all made on-site and delicious. Honestly, best nursery!

Our daughter has been attending for 5 months and is excelling in herself. She amazes us with her new talents, words, expressions etc. and is always genuinely very happy when we collect her and happy to talk about her day, on the way there in the mornings she is excited to spend the day with her friends
and teachers.
The staff are exceptional and always willing to help and advise or cover any queries should they occur.
Without a doubt would recommend it to all family and friends.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.869)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.869) out of 10 for Cumnor Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.994 for Cumnor Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (179 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 4.994
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cumnor Nursery is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 number of registered child places is 12, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
