The Butterfly Patch provides excellent childcare to little ones aged 3 months to 5 years over 51 weeks of the year. Their long hours are suited to all families as they are open from 7:30am to 6:30pm, offering full days, AM and PM sessions.

They strive to provide outstanding care and education for your little ones in their precious early years with the support from carefully selected trained and passionate staff.

The Butterfly Patch consists of three rooms;

Glittering Glow Bugs for children aged 3 months to 2 years (with a separate sleep room)

Creative Caterpillars for children 2 to 3.5 years

Bouncing Butterflies for pre-school children

They have a free-flow garden for toddlers and a free-flow garden for preschoolers, as well as taking their little ones on outings at least once a week.

During outings, they explore local amenities such as the florist, library and supermarkets, and also explore the woods and parks nearby.

The Butterfly Patch boasts a sensory room in which all the children can experience a mellow and intriguing atmosphere in small groups of 3 or 4 children.

This is a fantastic learning opportunity for children of all ages to explore using their senses. They also offer extracurricular activities such as a drama and dance class, karate and baby sensory.

Finally, a good grub programme ensures fresh, healthy brain food is offered to children each day. Taking part in the mayor on London's scheme Healthy Early Year London

My two-year old daughter goes here and she's loving it more and more as she develops. She started when she was just over a year old. The manager and her team did a brilliant job settling her in and have continued to do a brilliant job ever since.
I don't worry about leaving her and she comes home
happy every day. Couldn't ask for more!
Thank you everyone for the incredibly hard work that you put in every day. Our children are benefitting from it no end - not enough flowers can be given!

My son loves going to the nursery; the team are so kind and caring. They always have something fun and exciting going on. I would highly recommend The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley. We relocated from the US to the UK and I was in contact with the nursery manager even before we landed in the UK. She was amazing. My child has some special needs and she was always so kind and accommodating. She pointed me to the right
resources that could help my son when he joined the nursery. Once my son joined, the staff at the nursery were so involved and hands-on to make sure he settled in properly. They have plenty of activities planned throughout the day. What makes them stand out is their focus on the overall development of a child. They work on fine motor skills, social skills and life lessons and teach them to be independent and confident individuals. They provide delicious nutritious meals at the nursery. Overall a great place, my son's thriving here.

I love the nursery's communication and efficiency. Greatly improved since my child first began. Staff are friendly and always keep me updated. I would like to see more frequent reviews on child development though but overall I am happy with the nursery.

I stopped by on my way home and was shown around by Seema (who is an absolute delight!). I met some of the staff who came across as very knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care about the children in their care. The facilities are fine and one thing I mentioned to Seema was that I was getting a "cosy,
family vibe" from the nursery and she agreed with me. My child is three years old and has never been to nursery so I had a lot of questions which were answered in good detail, I was also put at ease regarding the settling-in period and how this is managed. This is definitely somewhere I would consider leaving my child and would feel satisfied knowing my child is well looked after. Thanks again!

All staff are warm and friendly, and always welcoming. My son genuinely loves going to the nursery to be with his second fun family. I would highly recommend this nursery! My child found it difficult to part from me before starting and the staff were amazing with helping my child to adjust and settle. He loves going to nursery and always comes out happy and smiling. I have never had any issues and the staff are very accommodating

My child has been attending for two and a half years now. I have seen them develop really well and believe that nursery has had a huge influence on this. I have only ever collected my child in a happy mood and my child is excited on their days of attendance. Communication is great at nursery and as
well as a daily update, parents get to review their child's development with progress reports completed by staff. Strong friendships have been formed with my child and other children as with Staff also and this is reflected in conversations away from nursery when my child will discuss what they have been learning, games they have been taught and links between nursery and home life. I tell many friends and family that nursery is extended family to my child and I am so glad I chose here for their choice of childcare. Childcare options can be overwhelming when trying to find your 'right' fit and from the day I viewed nursery, I knew they were what we were looking for. The balance of learning and nurture!

My daughter has been attending the butterfly patch since 2019 and I can say the last three years have been nothing but wonderful. As a family, we have amazing relationships with her key worker and management alike. Last year we made the transition from the South Norwood Branch to the Croydon branch
(due to moving home) and I cannot fault the management at both branches for their hard work in making my daughter feel settled and putting me at ease. My daughter enjoys every day at nursery, coming home happy and eager to share her learning. All of the staff (one as a favourite) are so kind, friendly and nurturing, at a great home from home setting. I honestly cannot recommend this nursery enough.

Wonderful nursery. My eldest child absolutely loved it at The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley so we decided to send our youngest daughter, who currently still attends. She has progressed massively with her numbers and letters and is even telling me about the phonics she is learning! I feel at ease
knowing she is happy there and she looks forward to going every week. The staff always keep us informed with what she's been up to and are always really accommodating.

My eldest has been attending since July 2019 and my youngest since October 2020. Both of them settled in really well and look forward to going to nursery everyday. All members of staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help. Both the girls get on really well with all staff, including their
key workers. Communication with parents is on point, via the family app and email. The nursery is also very well facilitated for all the kids, always new things being added. Would definitely recommend.

My daughter started going to this nursery when she was fourteen months old and she will be four years old next month. I can only praise them. Excellent, wonderful and caring staff. They have been exceptionally prepared during the pandemic. I receive regular updates and photos of what my little one is
up to throughout the day. My daughter will surely miss the nursery and so will I when she starts school in September.

All of the wonderful staff at The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley are fantastic. They work so hard to facilitate the children’s learning and happiness while they are in their care. Each and every one is friendly, approachable, professional and welcoming. My daughter has attended for the past twelve
months and she absolutely loves nursery! She even wants to go on her days off which is so reassuring as a working parent, to leave her for ten hours each day. The leadership in the nursery is great, they are always visible and the communication and feedback is never an issue. The use of the online portal for parents is so handy, especially given the current times when we are not able to go into the setting. The children have days packed full of fun activities and they are always offered healthy and nutritious meals, which is so important. Support with objectives such as toilet training and hand hygiene and learning other skills, is great. I cannot fault this nursery and would recommend for all ages under five.

We enrolled my daughter at The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley as a baby, when my wife had to return to work and she is currently there as a two year old toddler. The nursery staff are very friendly and one member of staff was very understanding and supportive as we eased our daughter in to nursery.
Leaving your child with other people is such a big deal and we feel very comfortable with the staff at The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley. They have an excellent app that allows us to track her day, to see how much she has slept, what she has been doing and what food she has eaten. It is a great reassurance to see photos of your child playing and learning whilst you are working. The food is very good and I am often quite jealous when I look at what my daughter has eaten for her lunch and snacks. I was also impressed when The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley introduced an external company that come in and teach sports and games for the kids. The photos I got were really lovely. I would happily recommend The Butterfly Patch Croydon - Shirley.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2018

I started my child care career when I finished school in 2009. I studied for two years at college whilst obtaining experience in a day nursery as part of my qualification I completed my experience in offered me a permanent role.


Throughout my time I was given may different role which allowed my growth within the company including becoming the SENCO, Behaviour officer, room leader and third in charge. I worked with a range of children who had extremely complex needs giving me the experience of working closely with parents/carers and outside agencies.
During this time I also completed my Level 5 leadership and management in children and young people's services. I completed this course to help me further my career to management in child care.


In March 2015 I moved to Egypt for 12 months to work in a nursery. During this time I worked with a range of different families of cultures from around the world. I implemented the Early Years Foundation Stage ethos into the setting and was amazed to see how the children excelled and how much our families responded to the approach.


I returned back to the UK in April 2016 I became a manager of a brand new nursery. I was finally able to put all of my experience and knowledge into full practice. In this setting I achieved a "Good" Ofsted grade and continues to support the nursery and to staff to their full potential. I thrived of seeing not only the staff learn new things but the children excelling and being supported by such loving, caring and nurturing staff.


In November 2017 I decided that it was time to spread my wings, I had worked for the same company for my whole child care career in the UK and it was time to move on. This is when I found The Butterfly Patch.


I joined The Butterfly Patch in February 2018 - Our doors weren't even open. I took pride in helping to set up what is now a beautiful, inspiring and nurturing nursery and company.
Children are at the heart of everything we do, children’s welfare and safeguarding is central to all of our decision making. Our staff feel valued and supported from management.

Seema Phillips

Job Title: Nursery Manager

I have been working with children for over 20 years, starting out as an apprentice and working my way through to nursery manager. During this time, I have qualified as a Nursery Nurse (0 to 5 years), and I have completed a BA (Hons) in my Early Years. I have worked both UK and abroad and have a passion for seeing the children strive.


I believe that all children deserve to have a safe, enabling environment to learn and grow in. This is what we strive every day to provide here at the Butterfly Patch.


Outside of work, I love to bake, I am the Youth Department Leader of The Healing Church of God in Christ in Paddington and I've recently started to cycle (when the weather is good).
