They have 5 Little Pioneers who help share their core values with children from encouraging them to express their feelings to making a difference in the world. They have a ParentZone app which keeps parents/carers informed about life at nursery with photos from their day, assessments, meals eaten and even toilet training progress!
They are big on safety and that's why ALL their staff are paediatric first aid trained. They are silver eco schools accredited, a programme that sees children lead the way in making little changes that deliver big environmental differences.
They are also big on happy children so they have areas for growing food (and eating it), regular visits to local care homes and take care of each other and the world.
Located on the outskirts of leafy Selly Park in Birmingham, Little Pioneers St Edwards provides high quality, innovative childcare for children up to the age of five. The nursery is set in a converted Victorian school with its own Forest School nearby.

About this price
How funding is applied, how the monthly figure is calculated.More info
- Working parents of children aged 9 months to 2 years can usually claim up to 30 funded hours a week. The working-parent hours depend on each parent meeting the minimum earnings rules and earning under £100,000 a year. This nursery stretches funded hours across 52 weeks of the year. You've selected 30 funded hours.
- This nursery applies up to 10 funded hours per day, stretched across 52 weeks of the year. With your selected funding, 21.9 hours are covered each week. Hours beyond this, including the early and late parts of the day, are charged at the standard rate.
- We work out the total cost across the year and divide by 12, so the figure shown is a smoothed monthly average. In practice, nurseries bill in different ways. Some bill monthly at this average. Others bill weekly, or charge for what happened that week or month, which can vary across the year. Confirm billing details with the nursery when you enquire.

My daughter really enjoys attending Little Pioneers. She has really developed in terms of her speech and interaction with others at a really challenging time. She enjoys the changing daily activities and especially likes the access to the outdoors with the trikes and the mud kitchen. She enjoys...
The staff were also really helpful as we were expecting a baby and they engaged our daughter with baby dolls in the room.

The activities they do with the little ones are lovely and the pictures they send me are super cute.

Our daughter joined the last couple of week. I cannot thank them enough for how they have helped her settle in and how proactive they are in informing us of her progress on a daily basis. All staff are extremely friendly and approachable. A fantastic nursery!

The Little Pioneers team provide wonderful care. They individualise learning goals, are creative in the activities they design (they are fun but also really extend children developmentally) and are great at communicating with parents. The food is also wonderful, healthy and diverse flavours!

The nursery have been fantastic with our daughter (18 months) who has attended since September 2019 and loves it there. The manager and the whole team have made her feel very welcome. We have noticed a positive difference in her speech and general abilities while being there which we hope continues. Importantly, she seems very happy and positive about being there which is really important to us both working parents. They were particularly supportive during the time of the pandemic which was very appreciated.

Very good emphasis on learning and preparing children for school. The activities are great. The staff are very kind with the children and set a good standard of expected behaviour.

Our little girl was just under 7 months old when she started and we were going through a phase of her being upset with everyone and anyone, including family if she could not see me or her dad. Since attending this nursery, her confidence has grown so much, she’s a happy little baby that now waves at me if she knows I’m going somewhere. Being at the nursery has also given us a much better day time routine and I am very grateful for this. She’s eating a wider variety of food, she gets to play outside and interact with other children, we have noticed she’s been coming home having learned new skills such as waving and dancing. When we drop her off in the morning, she will now put her arms out to the staff in her room and is willing to go to them with a smile. It makes my working day much more bearable knowing she is happy where she is.
The staff are amazing, they have really helped to get our son settled into the nursery. They often hold workshops and sometimes it's on the weekend so that we both can attend. We feel that our son has learnt so much already.

He loves to get stuck into a variety of activities and they are allowed plenty of independent play outdoors. They have lots of educational play activities and learning to play with other children. He has made a good group of friends who he loves to talk about. The staff are very much a safe pair of hands, always friendly and supportive, comforting for our son and reassuring for us as parents to know our children are being supported emotionally as well as looked after.
Excellent nursery with kind, caring and attentive staff. My 21 month old son settled extremely well and the facilities, food and activities are brilliant. I like how they get the parents involved and arrange coffee mornings and activities sessions for parents to attend too.

Nursery could just improve on the communication side of things. Returning phone calls and emails, informing about events in advance, fixing the formatting of the newsletter so it can be read, for example. However, this seems better with the new manager.
Fabulous!! We are very happy with the care our two children receive at this nursery; the staff are caring, attentive and the environment is wonderful. The activities are varied, inventive, creative and stimulating. No hesitation in recommending whatsoever!

Staff within the Little Creators 1 room are friendly and attentive and create a lovely atmosphere within the nursery. It makes drop-offs a pleasant experience and the one time my daughter was a little upset one of the staff members thoughtfully sent me an app update of her happily tucking into breakfast after I had left which was wonderful to see. The use of the app to share information and photos of activities during the day is great and gives a real insight into the messy play and exploring they get up to at nursery. Any questions I have are always answered rapidly and any special requirements are managed with ease.

There is always something fun and educational for the children to do, suiting the age and my daughter loves the staff here! I haven’t used a nursery before with my older children, so I was a bit nervous when starting out but I have complete faith in the staff here now and couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
My son has thrived since starting nursery two days per week. The staff are attentive, friendly and caring and the nursery is stimulating, organised and clean!
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

St Edward's is an amazing nursery. We got a fabulous feeling for it the minute we looked around it and we've never lost it. Our son is so so happy here, the staff are amazing and I really would recommend it to everyone.

Things were very unsettled at the nursery whilst it was being taken over by The Co-op and I considered moving my child. However recently - huge improvements. They have recruited enthusiastic, caring staff who seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Staff retention has improved (after a mass exodus with the take over), agency staff reduced. It is very much a chain nursery - there are policies which I feel don't put the child at the centre, however, this is compensated for by common sense and caring staff. The building and outside space are lovely and used frequently. Staff from all the rooms seem to know the names of all the children so movement between rooms. Recently the chef has been catering extremely well for dietary requirements meaning all the children can safely eat a variation of the same food. The activities are very good, however, I understood that forest school was offered but I don't think it's happening - very disappointing. My child is extremely happy at this nursery.
