Set within the Welbeck Estate, just outside Worksop, Child First Nursery offers children an unusually spacious environment in which to learn, explore and spend time in nature. With access to the wider 5,500-acre estate, the setting makes the most of its surroundings to provide experiences that extend well beyond the traditional nursery environment.

Facilities include a music cave, sensory room, outdoor art room, allotment, fire pit and covered outdoor sleeping area. The nursery even has its own rare-breed chickens, giving children further opportunities to learn about animals and the natural environment.
Both indoor and outdoor spaces have been designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and active learning. The extensive grounds of the Welbeck Estate provide additional scope for children to experience the outdoors and develop an appreciation of the world around them.
Food is freshly prepared by an on-site chef, with locally sourced produce used wherever possible. Mealtimes form part of the nursery experience, complementing children's opportunities to learn about food, cooking and nutrition.
Child First places particular emphasis on its team of specialist practitioners and chooses to staff the nursery above the minimum legal requirements. During the settling-in period, each child is given the time and support they need to become comfortable and confident in their new surroundings, with their individual happiness and wellbeing remaining the priority.
The nursery is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and offers free parking for families. While its estate location may mean travelling a little further for some parents, Child First aims to make that journey worthwhile through the breadth of space, experiences and opportunities available to children.

My daughter has attended Child First Welbeck since September 2021. She has settled in amazingly with the help of the wonderful staff members, she had never been left with anyone before this time and it was very comforting knowing that she was being left in very capable and caring hands. The setting is beautiful, the garden is amazing and the rooms are homely! The staff are knowledgeable, very helpful and extremely friendly and they make me feel at ease. I know my daughter loves the nursery just as much as I do!

From the minute our son entered the nursery to have a look around, you could see how happy he was and how much he felt at home. All the staff are very welcoming and nothing is ever too much. Since joining the nursery our son has been a little under the weather but the staff have been so helpful and caring towards him, taking the time to make sure he is okay and updating his dad and me. They really do care. The setting at the nursery is very outdoorsy, with lots of planting vegetables, playing in the mud, painting outside and generally exploring which our son really loves. The app that is used for parents is so easy to use and you can see exactly what they have done with their day and at what time. Seeing the pictures when you're at work really does make your day. I cannot recommend this nursery enough and we are only three weeks in.

My 21-month-old literally runs into his room! Proof to me of how much he loves the place and this is often confirmed when his staff comment about how much he loves his time there. I feel on top of the world when he comes home with his special pictures and handmade pieces. I collect him happy and often covered in all the activities he has enjoyed - which I absolutely love to see! I can see how much the staff care for my son but I also feel very welcome. They share information about my son and we work together to support his development! The grounds are a dream and the staff are always so positive - I’m half tempted to apply for a job there myself! Can’t thank them enough for the peace of mind they give me and couldn’t imagine my son going anywhere else. I think he’d still find his way and run through their door.

We couldn't have chosen a better nursery setting for our 19-month-old daughter. She has been going to Child First Welbeck since she was 12-months and she is settled, happy and thriving. The nursery is perfectly set up for the children to play, explore and be themselves. Despite the relaxed nature, which we love, the staff know every detail about our daughter and show genuine care and excitement when she achieves something new. We are kept fully updated on her daily meals, naps and nappy changes via the app. Communication with all staff and management is excellent.

My grandson goes to this nursery three days a week and it is brilliant. The staff are helpful, kind, caring, great at their job and understand how difficult it is to drop off your child when they are clinging to your legs! I know as soon as I am driving off he is happy playing and eating his breakfast. Where else can they get out and collect eggs from the chicken, grow vegetables and get muddy? It’s how we all grew up and it’s great for their development. The manager cannot do enough to make every day a fun day and a place to enjoy. The home-cooked food is something else as well, it’s a pity they don’t do take away!

Our daughter attends this nursery and we are more than satisfied with the level of engagement from both management and staff. From day one we felt the staff understood the importance of each child’s individual development, and this shows with the daily updates of their diary and the feedback we receive in terms of activities and learning milestones. Where special instructions are required such as changes to nap schedules, these are promptly adhered to, with feedback again on how it is going to ensure home and nursery life are closely aligned. The facilities are unique and attractive compared to those we have used previously, and we would recommend the nursery to new parents without hesitation.

I first discovered Child First Welbeck Day Nursery when my son was only a few months old. I took him to a sing and sign class that was held there. It's setting in the Welbeck estate means the children have acres of land to explore. When you pair it with the inside, its rustic charm and homely feel really make this nursery stand out from the rest. There really is nothing else like it in the area.
Child First allows children to have freedom to choose, learn through play and develop at their own pace. The majority of the time the children play outside and are not confined to a classroom setting. My son loves being outside and getting dirty and at Welbeck, he's allowed to do this. We can't believe how much my son's confidence has grown. He gets so excited when we arrive at nursery in the morning and we always pick him up tired out, covered in dirt, well fed and happy! As parents we couldn't ask for better.

My little boy has been attending nursery since January. Unfortunately over the lockdown period, we decided it was best not to send him for a while as we have a vulnerable family and are all key workers. When he returned, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, after a few upset arrivals, he now runs into nursery every time he attends! He has turned into such a confident, chatty and outgoing little boy and chatters none stop in the car when I collect him. He always comes home having had a healthy home-cooked meal for lunch and dirty after a fun day outside! The online journal is helpful as I can work with the nursery to understand what he is working towards in his development and try to help enhance this at home. We didn’t look around any other nurseries as we all felt happy with here after just one visit.
I can’t wait for my little boy to continue his nursery journey here and flourish and grow even more!

My son has been at Child First Welbeck for nearly 2 years. It is the best nursery with the most wonderful staff I've ever come across. It is set in the most idyllic surroundings with amazing outdoor spaces for adventures and exploring. Their ethos for learning is truly wonderful and I love the fact that the children can spend however much time they wish outdoors, indoors or wherever they fancy! My son adores everyone here and I only wish he could stay until he's 18.
I would recommend to anyone to come and take a look, once you have been you won't want to leave. Seeing is believing.

Well, where do I start it’s hard to put into words just how incredible this magical place is. Our journey with Child First started around 3 years ago when my eldest child started here and soon after my youngest child also started. My eldest child had always been used to being outdoors so that was the first thing that attracted me to Child First and wow did it deliver. Within weeks of being there, he had already built a very strong relationship with the staff and still does to this day even though he now attends school. My youngest child still goes to Child First and I don’t even want to think about the day we will have to say our goodbyes he absolutely adores nursery and has a very strong bond with all staff. Throughout the years I have also grown very close to all the staff and fall back on them for help and advise when needed. This nursery is our home from home our friends that became family.

My son has been going here since he was 9 months old and loves every aspect of it. Regular crying when leaving (as home isn't as fun). He's developed in leaps and bounds going to Welbeck Child First. The dedication and love of the staff are beyond belief. You will not be disappointed at all. Quiet beautiful surroundings. We didn't look round any other nurseries we instantly fell in love. Our second child will be attending as well.

My daughter has been attending Child First for over a year now, as soon as I came to look around the nursery it had a home from home feel. The staff team and management were so welcoming and went out of their way to settle in my little girl. Their ethos is fantastic and my daughter has thrived since being there, she spends most of her time outdoors, jumping in muddy puddles, going on adventures around the Welbeck estate, she never wants to come home and is always muddy with a huge smile on her face! She is allowed to be a child and that's the most important thing in my eyes.
Thank you to everyone at Child First for all your kindness and support over the past year, you truly are amazing and we wouldn't go anywhere else!

My daughter has been going to Welbeck nursery for most of her life, she was 10-months-old after her childminder said she couldn't work anymore. I was heartbroken, but there was only one nursery I wanted to see for her transition, and that was Welbeck, I have never stepped foot in another nursery since. I wanted her to have space and be outside, not be behind barred windows and in a concrete playground, and Welbeck has totally exceeded my expectations for her childcare.
But it's not just the environment, the garden's and the onsite chef... its the staff... There's nothing these guys wouldn't do not only for the kids but for us parents too! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my daughter, and I will be heartbroken beyond words when she has to leave to go to school next year!

My son had been attending Child First Welbeck since November 2019, and I cannot begin to explain how much he enjoys it every day. The staff team are incredible and work so hard to ensure the children have natural resources and activities to get involved in every day. My son has grown in confidence, language, friendships and independence. He truly loves that he has the freedom to choose the activities that he enjoys, explores the spaces he wants to and interacts with the staff and children. We could not wish for a better setting for our son.

My daughter attended Child First Welbeck, so there was no question when it came to picking a nursery for my son. The setting and space are idyllic, my son is only 11-months-old but already loves going to nursery. He is already growing in confidence and gets so excited when we arrive in a morning. The love and care he gets from the staff is second to none, and I have absolutely no worries leaving him, knowing how happy he is. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow and fully appreciate the outdoor space and facilities that the nursery has to offer. Seeing my daughter graduate from this nursery and go off to school happy, confident and independent was the best feeling ever, and I can’t wait to see him do the same!

I have over 20 years of experience working with children from newborns to teenagers. I began my career whilst studying at university and worked as a 1:1 with a 4-year-old boy with autism; this sparked an interest in how the mind works, especially in children. I then worked in a mother and baby unit, supporting young mums and their children and teaching them about life skills, how to care for their children, and how to look after themselves. I worked for Nottingham City Council for 10 years as a senior residential social care worker with children ranging from 4 years to 19 years, with learning disabilities, autism, and mental and physical disabilities. I love weekends away with my family, very spicy food, live concerts and long walks with my dog.
