Barley Barn Nursery Sawbridgeworth provides quality childcare for children aged three months to eleven years. The Day Nursery and Preschool are based in a beautiful, Grade 2 listed country house in the sleepy market town of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

The setting is centrally placed in the local catchment area of numerous outstanding primary and secondary schools.

Morning, afternoon or all day sessions are offered at times that are as flexible as possible regarding early drop offs and later pick-ups, should they be required.

The pre-schoolers benefit from having their own annex to enable them to thrive and reach their full potential in preparation and readiness for school.

Food is provided by the fully trained and dedicated chef in the on-site kitchen, who prepares healthy, nutritionally balanced meals and snacks using fresh, locally sourced ingredients on a daily basis.

There are two gardens at Sawbridgeworth, enabling a wide range of outdoor activity to take place each day, offering a broad, age specific outdoor curriculum.

Ample parking is available in Bell Street Car Park, adjacent to the nursery which ensures easy access. There is also a designated buggy storage park to enable parents to drop off and collect their children from the nursery as smoothly as possible.

My daughter had her final day today and it was a very emotional one as I have been attending the nursery for 7 years with my 2 children and have been extremely happy throughout their whole time there. I am sad to say goodbye. The nursey has always been extremely flexible where they can and have kept
me well informed with the day-to-day running of things. They are professional and approachable but most importantly they have given both my children an amazing start to life and they have always been very happy to attend. I feel very confident that their next big step in life the introduction to school will go seamlessly thanks to the love, care, and support they have received from the nursey. I would highly recommend it.

Our daughter has flourished since starting at Barley Barn. My husband and I are so impressed with all the team. Our daughter looks forward to going to nursery every day and has made lots of new friends. Narley Barn has supported the potty training which we have generally appreciated. We are in awe of
all the delicious meals that are prepared for our daughter every day and it is wonderful to hear that she is trying new food. We highly recommend Barley Barn.

After a 4 month break due to the most recent lockdown, my little boy has returned to nursery and after the initial tears, he is loving his days at nursery! He asks to go every morning and comes out happy at the end of each day. The staff in the over 2's room have been brilliant and really helped with

My nephew has been attending the nursery for about three months and he absolutely loves it, he is always so happy when he is there, always comes home with a smile on his face and is always so eager to go in. The girls in his room are absolutely amazing and ensure he is properly cared for, his key person
settled him in so well and they have a lovely bond, he talks about her at home regularly. He learns new things constantly and tell us what he’s been learning at home. He is a very happy little boy at nursery and has grown so much confidence since attending. The girls always ensure he is welcome and feels safe, they go above and beyond. He enjoys being there so much and we are very happy, I’m glad he attends the nursery, he has flourished since starting. We always get regular updates about his learning and any nursery changes. The nursery manager, as well as the deputy manager are also lovely, approachable and always so happy to help whenever you may need them.

My daughter is so happy and settled at the nursery the girls go above and beyond and ensure she is happy. She gives me a kiss waves goodbye and off she goes playing which puts my mind at rest that she is happy. Her speech has come on leaps and bounds since being in nursery room.

From my daughter's settling in sessions to seven months down the line, I am so pleased she is at this nursery. She is only there one morning a week but really enjoys her time there. The staff are always happy to have a quick catch up about her morning and what she did or ate. I would definitely recommend.
The scaffolding has been up on the outside ever since she started and doesn't make the nursery look attractive outside, that would be my only comment.

We had a difficult start to childcare for our little girl after her childminder gave us notice in July this year. We decided it might be best for our daughter to attend a nursery and we are so happy we made that decision! From the start the girls worked hard with us to make sure our daughter settled
in, being particularly sensitive she took a while to adjust. The girls were so reassuring to me and my husband that she would settle and sure enough she did! She went from shy and anxious to confident and chatty and now loves going to nursery every day with zero crying! She even sleeps well there something she didn't do well at the beginning. I can't thank the girls enough for how amazing they have been, I regularly call them to check how she's doing and they don't make me feel like a nuisance which I most definitely am! Highly recommend Barley Barn and the team where they are all wonderful.

In his short time at nursery, my son has settled extremely well into nursery. I credit that to the genuine warmth, friendliness and dedication of the whole team here at Barley Barn. He felt at ease straight away and I know he is having fun and learning, being kept safe and making friends.
The management
team are extremely professional, knowledgeable, approachable and are always smiling. You can sense their love for what they do and they know the children so well.
I can't thank the team enough in pre-school for helping and nurturing my son. He leaves me with a hug and a kiss and comes home full of stories about his fun day. I get such thorough communication from the team and know they have been supporting him with his needs and encouraging him with new skills. My son is eating foods that he has been reluctant to try at home and eats a varied and balanced diet.
The garden is always well utilised and it is very exciting to think a refurbishment is planned. Thank you all.

After initially being very shy our daughter now loves going to preschool, she has made a lot of friends and loves her keyworker. She has enjoyed learning and we have noticed how much her recognition of numbers and letters have improved. She has obviously been practising drawing and writing a lot as

We have had two children graduate from the nursery and preschool in 2017 and 2019 respectively. We have always felt the learning style for each child has been well catered for. The range of activities, classes of one to one time has been great. The preschool room leaders are incredible especially their
keyworker who was brilliant with both children, loving her caring yet balanced approach. We will miss our times here but you have helped set both kids up incredibly for school. Thank you.

My granddaughter joined this nursery in the summer of 2018.
Since starting at Sawbridgeworth day nursery, my granddaughter has developed in confidence so much. She took a while to settle but was shown comfort and love by the practitioners, especially in the under two's rooms. She is now happy to go
into nursery and shows clear attachments to her key person and to the other staff in her room.
The nursery, as a whole, is friendly and welcoming and although it is a listed building with some needed TLC, the practitioners do a wonderful job with the children and it is always clean.
We love to visit her and can’t wait to see the nursery continue to grow.

Have been using Barley Barn for over 3 years. In that time there have been three different owners and well over five managers. The latest seemingly leaving at short notice after a few months. The lack of continuity and consistency of management is very concerning. Communications from the nursery are
haphazard or non-existent. I have gone from being a great supporter of the nursery, to very much less so.


They introduced a ridiculous and overblown entry system that leaves you often standing outside for far too long in peak drop off periods. The supposed upgrades have been talked about for years and still no sign of them.


The staff are generally fine. The benefits of being part of a big group have not materialised as promised, except in more rules, policies and repetitive form filling in. There is zero online capability and the nursery seems stuck in a decade ago. The outdoor space is very limited, muddy - but at least used.

My son first started at Barley Barn Nursery when he was 7 months old. He has loved his experience right from day 1. He has developed great relationships with all the nursery staff and is always excited to see them. I am always amazed and so proud of all the skills he has learnt whilst being at nursery.
The staff are very supportive every step of the way with his development. It makes going to work so much easier having the comfort of knowing your child is receiving the best care. Good work and thank you to all at Barley Barn.

I started my career in childcare with Bright Horizons back in 2003 as a Nursery Nurse, and have been fortunate enough with the company to become a Nursery Manager. I transferred over to Sawbridgeworth in December 2020, and have loved watching the children Thrive, and also the staff.
Staff development is one of my passions and I strive to get the best out of each and every staff member to ensure the children can experience the awe and wonder whilst at the nursery.

I have worked for Bright Horizons for 8 years and joined the Sawbridgeworth team a year ago after transferring from another Bright Horizons Nursery. I have a 2.5-year-old daughter who also attends the nursery and is thriving. I am passionate about my job and enjoy seeing the children grow and watching their development from babies through to graduating and being ready for school. The majority of my experience has been with Under 2s and I worked my way up from a Room Supervisor to a Deputy Manager. I look forward to seeing where my Sawbridgeworth journey will take me.
