My little girl joined St Margarets last August and we cannot be happier! She is in the beanies room and even though she was very shy and reserved, she connected with the carers so quickly.
Nursery management was fantastic when I explained how important it was for us to have some Spanish in my LG day-to-day
and nursery ensured a bilingual carer was part of her care team. The room leader is lovely and quickly became really close with my little girl and just seeing her smile every morning when said staff members or the early years practitioner in training come out to greet her just makes our day.
Also, need to add that nursery staff are constantly planning events for the children, which always have us looking forward to some parent play day or holiday-themed parties. Nursery facilities are top notch and the daily lunch menu’s are a big hit with my kiddo. Overall great place, highly recommend.

We could not recommend this nursery enough. My son went from 14 months right in the middle of Covid and the staff went above and beyond to help him settle. They really helped us with his delayed speech and social skills and genuinely cared about him. The staff turnover is really very low and it’s so
lovely because even now, at 4, there are a lot of the same staff and they have seen him grow up and know and care about him as an individual. We were very sad to take him out to start at school nursery, but we were very lucky that his sister got a place and she is thriving at St Margaret’s and every time her brother comes for pick up staff take time to chat to him and make him feel special. The activities that are planned for the children and the thought that goes into everything that is done is so impressive. Highly recommend!

Our son (2 and 3/4s) attends this nursery and has done so since he was 9 months old and we have been delighted with his time at St Margaret's. The facilities are terrific, with large rooms for play/education and there is significant outside space for the children to enjoy in all seasons. Their menu
is varied and extensive, and they seem to have more success at getting him to eat different things than we do which is a big bonus. However, the real asset and reason we value the nursery so much is the staff - our son has transitioned through three classes with new teachers so far, but each time the staff have been considerate and kind, and have made a positive impression, not only on ourselves but also on our son directly. Would highly recommend.

Our son has been going to St Margarets for over 2 years now and he absolutely loves it. The rooms are beautiful and they have lots of space to play outside. The menu is varied and if my son does not like the food that day, they always provide lots of healthy alternatives. The staff have always been
thoughtful and helpful.

Big hearts shape little minds. Dear St Margaret's staff, the care and affection that you have shown is beyond the words. My Daughter loves to go to nursery and we value the relationships with you all. We are pleased with her development and happiness. Thank you to the Manager who supported us in difficult
time. Your excellent staff are not my daughters mother but their role is just as strong. Thank you for providing a safe, contained place for my daughter to play and smile, and paint, glitter and glue. It’s been probably the single best decision we have ever taken to send our daughter to St Margaret's Nursery.

We looked at several nurseries for our 4-year-old son before picking St Margaret's. It was a real stand out in terms of the learning environments and pleasant atmosphere. I was also impressed that there are qualified primary teachers on staff for pre-schoolers and that, as well as play, there are activities
built into the day to prepare wee ones for Primary 1. Letter and number recognition, and having routines for hanging up jackets and eating together are essential skills to make the transition easier.

I have to say, I have never once doubted my decision to send my son there. The staff are friendly and supportive, as well as firm when necessary. Play is often free form, and the outside space is amazing, but there is also a good balance of structured activities. The pre-schoolers visit as old peoples' home every 2 weeks and this is a wonderful mutually beneficial arrangement. The food is planned by a nutritionist and encourages healthy eating.

I cannot recommend highly enough!

Brilliant nursery. The nursery is very spacious and the rooms are great. Very clean and with underfloor heating which is great for crawling babies and kids playing on the floor. My 28-month-old boy used to hate going to the nursery but after moving to St Margarets he can't wait to go there.

They

have a big garden area to use and an indoor soft-play area which is ideal when the weather is horrible.

Great communication with staff and managers. No problems at all.

Great facilities for the children including soft play and a sensory room which are mainly used when the weather is bad and they can’t get into the garden. There is a small car park making drop off and pick up safer than parking on the road. Children are encouraged to be independent and room sizes are
small enough that children are always involved and not left on the periphery. They use a secure online learning journal which we find great for allowing Grandparents to see how their grandchild is progressing at nursery.

St Margaret’s Nursery is a haven for children with the loveliest, caring staff. Time is taken with the children when it comes to learning and activities. My granddaughter has been there for 2 years and she has come on in leaps and bounds. It will be a sad day when she leaves to start school.

From the minute you enter the bright, modern and spacious reception area, you feel like this is somewhere that encourages learning, and has been designed and purpose-built to support that. No pokey dark corridors or dodgy conversions, all the rooms are well equipped (with all the essentials neatly
packed away out of little ones' reach!) leaving the floorspace free for play. A range of stimulating activities, their own soft play room, plus huge garden area (a real premium in the city centre). The online learning journal means grandparents can login and see our child develop, even from 300+ miles away. They have amazingly varied hot meals so she only ever needs a light tea before bed - perfect for working parents. They are attentive to her every need, notice when she is under the weather, have supported her through many key learning and development stages and keep setting new goals for the staff to work towards with her. I would thoroughly recommend both the building and the staff.

Great and helpful staff. It is nice to know that they pay so much attention to every child even though it is sometimes very difficult. Good feedback is provided daily. Outdoor space is brilliant - my son absolutely loves it. Other facilities are excellent too, eg. soft play inside the nursery building.

I would recommend all parents to send your children to this nursery, staff are nice here. The facilities excellent, not just a huge outside garden with kids play house, slide, swing...they also have an inside softplay room, which is my son's favorite place. Since I have sent my boy there he has learnt
so many things and also met his best friend in there.

St Margarets Nursery is a fantastic private nursery that provides parents with the peace of mind to leave their child in safe surroundings. The friendly and flexible staff offer great support and development to each child and lots of extra activities means that individual needs and interests are catered
for. The reputation and reliability of the most experienced room leader manager gives continuity of care. I cannot recommend this nursery more highly and thank them for taking care of both my daughters. Especially during changes and other challenges in our lives. We appreciate all the help.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.941)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.941) out of 10 for St Margarets Nursery & Preschool Craigmillar Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.952 for St Margarets Nursery & Preschool Craigmillar Park is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.952
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.989 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Margarets Nursery & Preschool Craigmillar Park is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 121 number of registered child places is 24.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 24.2 = 0.289
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
