Little Green Rascals, Tadcaster Road is a fully organic day nursery in the North of England. The nursery is able to offer care for over 100 children and has a team of staff who are fully trained to give professional Early Years care.
All of the food served at Little Green Rascals is organic, or ethically sourced, and home cooked on site by trained chefs. The inspiring menus run on a 4 week cycle, updated in the summer and winter months, and provide options for children with allergies or dietary requirements. The main aim with the menus is to introduce children to new and exciting ingredients, including beetroot, quinoa and polenta.
The staff are regularly seeking to update their skills and qualifications, contributing to a highly skilled team of teachers, EYP's and graduates.
The children have access to fantastic resources, including an art teacher and a yoga teacher, as well as extensive outdoor space, where they are involved in the planting, and picking fruit and vegetables from their very own plots to be used in award-winning menus.
The nursery is home to a considerably large garden, to the rear of the building, which includes a mud kitchen and hiding areas. There is a soft rubber area, where the children can play on their bikes and scooters, and grassed gardens, that they can explore. The garden is also home to chickens, guinea pigs and an array of wildlife which staff encourage to thrive with specific plants and shrubs.
The care of each individual child is paramount to the running of the nursery, and Little Green Rascal’s will endeavour to provide care that exceeds all expectations and needs of both the children and parents.

I am so, so happy that we picked this nursery for our son. The variety in the activities each day promotes their development. The food on offer is second to none. The atmosphere in the nursery is so calming, caring and fun and the staff really know our son and his personality. Our son has been here for 4 months so far and I haven't had a single issue. I couldn't recommend it more.

My first impression of the nursery was back in February when my twin granddaughters joined Little Green Rascals. The staff were very friendly and the environment was so child-friendly (not necessarily seen in some nurseries).
As my grandchildren have become used to this environment I have seen such a difference in them both. They now interact more easily with friends and family who they don’t see often. Their relationship with the associated nursery staff is such that they appear to enjoy their days there.
I could not be more pleased with their development in such a relatively short time. This is down to the attention that is afforded them while they are in your care.
I look forward to seeing them grow in character and emotional intelligence.
Thank you Little Green Rascals.

My daughter has been attending the full-time sessions (5 days a week) for more than a year now. I do not have words to say how happy she is in the nursery. At the beginning it was hard, but the staff (every single girl), they are amazing! You can say they work as a team and look after all the babies/toddlers. Every day is planned and the toddlers really enjoy their day. in addition, they can have extra curriculum lessons. Very happy with the nursery so far!

The review has been provided for a member of staff who works in the pre-school room. She clearly has a wealth of experience working with children. She is able to adapt her style and communication techniques to get the best out of the children. She is passionate about their development and this clearly shows. She gets to know each child really well, understanding their likes/dislikes to get the best out of them and encourage them. She has a very warm personable and engaging personality. I can always rely on her to provide me with updates/my child's development etc. I feel assured my child is safe in her care. I cannot praise or recommend her enough and my daughter adores her.

I honestly couldn't wish for a better standard of nursery for my two boys to attend. The staff here are fantastic and care for my children in the best possible way. The facilities are brilliant, extra activities such as Forest School and French classes. It really is fantastic. Would recommend without hesitation!

It's no surprise that this is one of the most sought after nurseries in York. The setting is absolutely fantastic, the staff genuinely care about the children and the focus on enjoyment and development is commendable. As a parent, I find it totally reassuring that my child's key worker is focused on her overall well-being and her development has been astounding over the last few months - evidence of the wonderful range of activities undertaken by the staff. We love Little Green Rascals!

This nursery is excellent and my little boy has blossomed and gained in confidence because of his experience at Little Green Rascals. The staff are kind and caring, the facilities conducive to learning and the food is good quality and nutritious. Even if I were not working I would send my son here for a rounded early-life experience.

I found the transition back to work a lot easier with the help of all the staff ay my son's nursery, he settled well and quickly with the help of his key worker. They are a lovely team who have lots of different activities for the children to play and learn with. They have lots of outdoor areas for the children to play in. The staff made me feel happy with my choice of nursery as nothing is too much. My son is always happy to be left and that's a massive bonus for me.

Little Green Rascals has provided fantastic care to both my 3-year-old son and my 11-month-old daughter. Staff are well qualified, attentive to detail and take a personal interest in each child they are in contact with. We have encountered lots of key workers as our children have moved through the rooms. Each one has been equally caring and competent and always without complaint.

Little Green Rascals is an outstanding nursery. The staff in particular, are warm and friendly and have gone the extra mile to ensure our children are happy and settled at nursery. The opportunities available are also fantastic and we believe our child's development is regarded as a top priority.

My daughter attends nursery once a week and comes home full of chatter and smiles. She seems to come on in leaps and bounds both in development, personality and physically after attending nursery. It defiantly does her some good. She's also exhausted so a better nights sleep for all.

Little Green Rascals is an excellent nursery, both my children love it. The staff are amazing and I trust them completely with my children. I am so pleased that my children have had the chance to attend Little Green Rascals.

During the month of January my daughter's key worker has worked tirelessly on building her self-confidence. Once a timid shy 3-year-old in the nursery setting is no longer. My daughter has been promoted by her key worker to find her voice and she can now be seen talking more openly and freely to staff and other children.

We are extremely happy with Little Green Rascals. My little girl has been there since she was 12 months, she's now 3 years old and in the Busy Bumble Bee's room. The nursery offers her so many opportunities to play and learn getting lots of outdoor time. She is currently enjoying Forest school yoga and Ballet lessons, but there are even more options to choose from such as French, Spanish, Rugby etc. My daughter's key person knows her inside out and she has documented a fantastic record of her development and learning plan. There is always a clear topic for the week 1 month etc with lots of fun activities based around this. For example Chinese New Year, the weather etc. The nursery has always been very focused on treating my daughter as an individual especially when it comes to room transitions and selecting her key person. The food is brilliant, all freshly prepared, organic meals with lots of variety. Overall we thoroughly recommend Little Green Rascals and we are happy to have both our children at the nursery.
My little boy has been at Little Green Rascals for 4 months now and he absolutely loves it! He is in wiggly worms! The baby room is fantastic - a real home from home. The wiggly worms team totally understand what it feels like for you to leave your baby in a new environment and really tailor the settling in period to your baby. My little boy has a rare medical condition and the whole team has undertaken training with a local medical professional to understand this better and look after him. His key person has been especially proactive in learning about this and monitoring his progress. His key person is always keen to find out what he has been up to at home and vice versa, what he has been up to at nursery! He has a broad range of fun learning experiences and has come on leaps and bounds since joining. We are very pleased and highly recommend Little Green Rascals.

I've been very impressed with all aspects of the nursery since our son started 2 months ago. All the staff I've met have been lovely, friendly and really good with the children. He gets a varied range of activities whilst he's at nursery which is great. Any potential issues e.g rashes, reaction have been spotted and brought to our attention with possible solutions offered. The keyworker is lovely and seems to bond well with our son.

Brilliant!!. My daughter has started in the baby room at 10 months. Our minds were put at ease due to how friendly and professional the staff have been. They have been so welcoming, my daughter has settled well and feels secure and happy in her new environment. On the first day I received a "mummy bag" which contained treats to cheer me up on what was a difficult day leaving my daughter for the first time, these extra touches really make a difference.

Exceptional, professional care that takes into account personal parental preferences. Nothing is too much for the team at Little Green Rascals. I always feel confident that my children are well looked after and that their educational and nutritional need are met. Great facilities, great food and a fun stimulating environment.

Little Green Rascals is an excellent nursery; the building and gardens are perfect for little ones, with every age (0-4) catered for. My little one is always delighted to arrive at nursery, and they always provide a variety of activities to entertain and stimulate development. The level of communication we receive from the nursery is outstanding; especially from her key worker. I would definitely recommend LGR to anyone looking for a happy and caring environment for their child!

We love everything about Little Green Rascals. From the friendly and warm care workers, the helpful and involved management to the organic food, the opportunity to do forest school, the focus on creative play, the way they help the little ones develop. I have two children in the nursery and they are both so happy there. We wish Little Green Rascals did Primary and Secondary schools because we'd be sending our kids there too!

My daughter loves being a 'Little Rascal'. The staff have been fabulous and so supportive. My little rascal runs into their arms and happily waves goodbye as I head off to work, it is so good to not have the dreaded parent guilt.
She gets involved in lots of fabulous activities, loves to get messy and has a great enjoyment of the outdoor area. There is so much on offer to the children, it is such a great environment. We definitely recommend it to all.

Excellent standards of care. My little girl loves it here, the food is exceptional and she loves interacting with other children.
There is a wide range of activities arranged for the children. I would highly recommend.

We are very happy with the Nursery. My daughter takes part in many fun activities; she is in the baby room and does things I wouldn't have thought of doing with her at her age e.g. painting.
I'm particularly happy that there is a garden and lots of outside space.
The food is also really good quality; I know she is eating a varied diet there.
The staff in the baby room are very friendly and helpful.

This is a fantastic nursery which I would recommend to anyone considering childcare. My daughter was extremely attached to me and it was very difficult to leave her with anyone (it always involved a lot of tears). The care and attention she has had since she started about 8 months ago has been brilliant. Settling in took a bit of time but the staff were great and really took time to get to know her. The staff are all fantastic and really care for the children. The daily updates are great and I think you know you've chosen the right place when the staff say things like "she just needed a few extra cuddles today" and when your child wants to be handed over to their key person in the morning. My daughter recently moved rooms and as she becomes very attached to individuals they were extremely mindful of the transition period - ensuring it was tailored for her (they did it gradually over a longer period of time letting her get used to new staff). The food is also fantastic (I just wish I could buy meals from there!). I have already recommended LGR to a number of friends looking at childcare options.

My daughter absolutely loves attending Little Green Rascals. I have no problem leaving her in the morning as the team are fantastic and I know she'll be so well looked after. I pick her up with a big smile on her face in the afternoon and she's babbling away - probably trying to tell me all the fun things she's done! I love reading about what she has been doing during the day and having a chat with her key worker when I pick her up. Thanks to all of you for making my return to work so much easier!

Little Green Rascals is an amazing nursery, our little girl absolutely loves it, she has been going to the nursery since she was 10 months and is now fast approaching 2. The team at Little Green Rascals have helped her development significantly, from walking to talking. We have complete peace of mind leaving her at nursery and can't recommend it highly enough.
Review submitted from a Website Submission by K J (Mother of Child) on Friday 23 October 2015. Relates to October 2015.
My husband and I would have no hesitation in recommending LGR as the staff go above and beyond their job of looking after our daughter. She was out of sorts at the beginning of the month but well enough to attend nursery and they gave her extra attention ensuring she had enough to eat and drink, and was not uncomfortable in any way. We do not worry when we leave her at LGR as we know she enjoys every minute and her day which is filled with a variety of pass times. When she comes home she seems to have learnt something new every day.
Since joining LGR she has grown in confidence and has learnt many new skills and certainly tried different foods that she would not have had at home.

Our baby boy joined Wiggly Worms in September and we have been very impressed with everything about Little Green Rascals. We were invited in for a thorough pre meeting where we met staff and asked questions, safeguarding was high on the agenda which reassured us greatly. We were invited in on a Saturday to a special picnic where we could meet other parents and children could play together I was given a song book to sing songs at home that they sing at nursery. There is a weekly email for parents with nursery and community events coming up including Forest School days. We love his Key Worker, he is happy to see her every week. The comments she writes in his progress book help us too - especially when it comes to weaning; we didn't know he loved Oranges! The food always looks fab and the organic promise is taken seriously. Parents are encouraged to carry on the organic ethos at home by using organic veg box suppliers but it's not pushy. Our baby loves playing the black and white corner and snoozing in the sleep room. At first I thought parking might be an issue but it is fine - other parents are polite and I think having the parking attendant out in the car park on a morning is helpful. We have already recommended the nursery to our friends. Compared to other nurseries we look around Little Green Rascals was clean and professional.

My little girl started at the nursery last month and is loving it. She settled in right away. She has a diary which is filled out everyday so that we can read about what she has been up to. Every week there are new activities for her to get involved in. The staff all recognised us when we turned up from the start (which is quite impressive as she only attends two afternoons a week) and are all really caring and professional. The food menu is great and recipes are forwarded to us so we can try them out at home. I was apprehensive at the thought of leaving her at nursery when I went back to work but I have full confidence and couldn't be happier with LGR.

I found it very hard starting back to work to work with other children and leaving someone else to take care of mine, but Little Green Rascals has worked hard to ensure it has been a positive experience and smooth journey. My child has benefited hugely from the key worker system and they have bonded with many of the lovely staff, everyone seems genuinely pleased to see them in the morning. If upset when I leave they always phone me later to let me know how they are doing. The food is excellent and they will cater without any fuss or trouble to your little ones needs. They encourage parents to get involved with the nursery, finding out what your child has been up to and keep a lovely record of their journey! They do so many activities and you can see they learn so much. Being outdoors is really encouraged and they have lots of animals too... Hopefully we're going to be taking hamster home on holiday one weekend!

Our daughter loves coming to this nursery. The staff are extremely approachable and always give feed back at the end of the day to parents. It is a very busy nursery with lots of stimulating activities on offer for the children to interact with. The great emphasis on the outdoors and the wonderful food is a real plus! We would recommend this nursery to other parents and carers.

My little boy has been at Little Green Rascals for about 9 months and he loves it here. He eats far better than I do, the rooms are imaginatively decorated and well equipped, the staff are friendly and caring, and for a nursery in a city, the outdoor space is fabulous. Overall I am very pleased with the standard of care and would happily recommend this nursery to other parents.
Review submitted from a Website Submission by Rhian W (Mother of Child) on Monday 5 October 2015. Relates to September 2015.
I've been absolutely thrilled with the care my daughter has received since starting at Little Green Rascals three months ago. The staff made my daughter, my husband and I feel very welcome, and a well managed and structured transition made the process of settling in smooth. Consistency of carers allowed my daughter to build strong bonds and develop confidence in her new environment, and allowed her development to flourish. Regular feedback, both written and verbal, allowed me and my husband to understand my daughter's day and what she was doing at nursery.
There is a good variety of activities for all ages, and Little Green Rascals takes a fun but structure approach to development. This has allowed my daughter to experience new things and gain confidence in exploring and challenging herself.
The staff have been brilliant, and the food is excellent (I am often jealous of her menu!). We have been thrilled at the start Little Green Rascals has offered our daughter, and when baby 2 arrives next year, they will also be going to Little Green Rascals. My only recommendation would be to get on the waiting list early - it's very oversubscribed!

My son really enjoys the time he spends at Little Green Rascals, and has made some great friends there. My son has a number of food allergies and the staff have been fantastic in ensuring he still has healthy but safe meals. The food is brilliant and we regularly cook some of the recipes from the Little Green Rascal's chef, which are emailed to parents each week.

After looking around in few nurseries we walk into Little Green Rascals, me and my husband fell in love with the place. Very clean and a gorgeous environment for the little ones to have fun as they learn. My little one started in the 'Wiggly Worm' room and she was well loved and cared by the staff in a superb and professional manner. After a year she was ready to move on to the next room. The staff are great and I know my girl is happy and enjoys her days at the Little Green Rascals. We love the outside space the nursery has and the animals so children can get involved. Will recommend it to anyone but I will advise to always go and look around to get the feeling.

Little Green Rascals is a fabulous nursery. Our daughter started nursery when she was 11 months old and is incredibly happy there. The staff are all fantastic and so caring, always taking the time to get to know your child and ensuring that their early learning experiences are fun and rewarding. The outside space is wonderful and enhanced by the commitment to forest schools. There are parent forums on a regular basis where you can offer support or raise any issues. We couldn't be happier with the nursery and the knowledge that our daughter is in a very safe and caring environment.
Job Title: Nursery Owner
I originally started working in Marketing for a number of the UK’s blue chip organisations, with my final employed role as the Head of European Marketing for American Express in London.
After the birth of my second child, after experiencing the benefits of alternative medicine, I decided to train as a Homeopath, I became fully qualified in 2006.
Following a number of failed attempts to find suitable nursery provision for my children I decided to open up my own Nursery in 2009. The Nursery runs with a wholly ethical philosophy, we respect our environment and strive to do everything in our powers to ensure that not only do we operate with as little impact on the environment as possible but our children also understand and act under this mantra. We use essential oils, have a kitchen garden and use only natural cleaning products. We do not compromise – the children are our totally focus.
We now have two nurseries, with over 400 families and look after up to over 200 children each day. Within six years of opening we now employ around 80 staff and source all our products and services within 10 miles of York.
My passion is nursery care and food and I hope to encourage other providers with research and example.
I was lucky enough to win the North of England’s Business Accelerator Award in 2012. The nursery is an Investor in People and we hold one of only three Gold Awards in the UK from the Soil Association for our Catering.
I currently sit on the Soil Association’s Committee and I am the Deputy Chair for the National Day Nurseries Association in York.
Job Title: Nursery Manager
I have always loved working with children, and started helping out as a young leader at brownies when I was 14. I then moved up to help the girl guides for a few years when I did my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. I did three years at York St John University getting my Teaching qualification specialising in Early Years.
I began working as an after school club manager for an infant school and once I got back into school life did some part time teaching assistant work, working 1 to 1 with a little boy with special educational needs, I was then also offered to top up my hours by working as an early years practitioner in the onsite nursery where I became interested in getting my early years practitioner status. Once I gained experience and confidence again and had completed my EYPS I spotted the Deputy Manager job for LGR where I had done some work experience during my EYPS course and went for it!
Job Title: Early Years Teacher
Amanda Began working for Little Green Rascals in December 2014 as the Early Years Teacher. She has the following qualifications:
HND Agricultural Marketing and Business Administration
BA Hons Early Childhood Studies
MA Professional Development (Early Years + Primary)
Diploma in SEN
My first qualification was a HND in agricultural marketing. After agricultural college I had 2 and a half blissful years backpacking around the world! I spent a year living with a family in New South Wales as nanny to their four children living the Aussie life.
When I finally came home, I spent time on a farm in Wales as a shepherdess then went to work as product manager for an agricultural company in Glasgow where I marketed sheep dip and worming products, amongst other things. The call of the backpack was still strong, so I spent six months in Africa before returning to Australia for three more months. Back again to England and the search for a proper job...by this time my dad had given up all hope of me ever being responsible! I then worked in the agricultural sales industry for a couple of years before being made redundant and turning to a job in sales for TNT.
I met my other half, moved to Yorkshire and had my first child. I was lucky enough not to have to go back to work and spent the next five years as a stay at home mum and looked after Ben and Milly.
I started helping out at playgroup and quickly realised I really loved working with children. I worked at a preschool in Kirklees, working my way up to business manager. I completed a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies, gained an early years teaching qualification AND completed a Masters Degree in Early Years whilst looking after the children and working part time, something I could not have done without the support of my other half.
I then spent three years as a children's centre teacher in a deprived part if Leeds, which was challenging and rewarding, before being offered the role at Little Green Rascals. The job came at a time when I was working part time and considering returning to full time employment as the children were getting older and more independent. It was an opportunity not to be missed!
I love my job, having been unhappy in jobs prior to working in the childcare industry I know how important it is to enjoy your work and to work in a happy and positive atmosphere.
Being a mum certainly has made me a more empathetic practitioner; my son clung to me and cried as I left him at playgroup and school, so I can really appreciate what parents go through and the difficult decisions they make as parents.
