Partou Sycamore House Day Nursery & Pre-school has a well-earned reputation as the leading provider of childcare in Bishop's Stortford, offering outstanding care to children aged 3 months to 5 years, the nursery is open from 7.30am to 6:30pm Monday - Friday, for 51 weeks of the year (closed during Christmas week).

Our daughter has been at Sycamore for 3 months now, ever since we moved from Iceland to Bishop's Stortford. It was a big change for her, as she is a shy girl who doesn't trust adults easily but the staff at the nursery has from day one emphasised on building trust and getting to know her characteristics;
going the extra mile in our opinion which has led to a big positive change in her.


We particularly like how much the nursery gives priority to being a learning centre with a different theme every week. We also like how the staff encourages the children to get messy and explore different things from nature etc. The creativity is incredible. Furthermore, we really like the active posts on Facebook and would rate the communication from the staff as excellent.


All of the staff is so wonderful and it is apparent that they love what they do. Our daughter looks forward to going to the nursery every day and talks about playing with her friends from the second she wakes up!

My son started this nursery in September. He initially had some difficulties settling but the staff were very supportive, caring and accommodating. My son now thoroughly enjoys going to nursery.


As parents we are always kept up to date with events, activities by email and images on social media of

children's learning throughout the day.

My son attends Sycamore House Day Nursery and I believe it's helped him grow as an individual. He's an outdoors child and he gets this from Sycamore most days, which means he's had a full day once he gets home.
They help him with language and dealing with the (soon) arrival of his sibling.
I believe
he gets great care and personally connects I was looking for.
Also, the new rooms which are in place are great and allow him to explore the things in there as he wants and to use his imagination.
I couldn't recommend the school more.

My daughter has been at Sycamore for nearly 3 years, since she was 6 months old, and her little sister will be joining her next year. We particularly like that they really encourage the children to explore and get messy, even if it means she comes home a bit dirty from baking, painting and puddle jumping!
It means I don't feel bad about not doing much messy play at home as I know she does lots at nursery.

Our daughter is 4 years old and has attended the nursery she was 9 months old. We are pleased with the care she has received and she is very happy and settled at nursery. Sycamore House has some really wonderful staff who our daughter has formed strong bonds with. Her development has come on brilliantly
and we are confident that she will be very ready for school when she goes next September. Management change at the end of last year has been positive and it is clear that management and staff are looking to continuously make improvements.


Communication with parents at handover, through regular email updates, and via the Facebook page is much better, as is the increase in the range of activities and learning opportunities offered to the children. This being a nursery in the centre of town outside space is limited, but they make the best of it. The children go outside every day regardless of weather which is great, my daughter, in particular, loves the mud kitchen!!

Sycamore House has gone through a period of change and is now coming out of the other side for the better. With ongoing changes and improvements, this is becoming a great place for children to start their learning. The staff do care whilst management are continually looking at the ways to develop themselves
and their staff in order to enrich the child’s time at the nursery.
The food is prepared and cooked fresh daily and the meat is sourced locally while the menus offer a balanced, nutritious diet.
The only real negative is the lack of outside space, but with the nursery being an old converted house, it does offer a certain quirkiness to it.
Communication with the parents is good with regular posts on social media and email updates and you do feel like you’re being listened to whether it be a suggestion, question or issue.
All in all, Sycamore House knows where it’s shortcomings are, but is working hard to address these which makes it a welcoming place for children and parents to come.

I first enrolled my son at Sycamore House when he was just nine months old. He is now nearly four and stopped going to Sycamore House as I am getting him ready for school.


I have seen a few managers come and go but in the past year I have seen a huge difference in management and can only say how

impressive the current manager has been with her professionalism towards staff and how the nursery has changed from just a drop off for working parents to a fully functioning learning centre. The children seem so much happier as the activities have become more structured and have a learning theme as well as teaching manners and respect.
The rooms of the nursery have become brighter and children's paintwork and crafts are put up on the walls as well as pictures of activities. The rooms are also clearly labelled.
Sycamore House is coming on leaps and bounds and if this excellence continues I'm sure there will be a waiting list to get in.

Having had my son at this nursery for almost 3 years there has been some big changes and improvements over the years. The management are friendly and approachable but also flexible and open minded. In regards to the staff, in our experience here I would describe them as generally good however there
are a couple of outstanding staff members who go the extra mile. This is one of the main reason why my little boy has enjoyed being at this nursery and why we keep taking him back.
The nursery offers a range of activities including day trips out. These have helped my little boy increase his social skills as well as general development. If you have any concerns with your child's development the staff and management will work with you to help improve and support you and your child.


Overall I would describe the nursery as having a friendly atmosphere and although is already at a good standard they continue to monitor developments and improve.

My daughter has been attending Sycamores part time since she was 18 months old and I have always been very happy with the care she receives. From my first encounter with the nursery right through until now I have been very impressed with how helpful the staff are and the great relationship they have
developed with my daughter. I really like the variety of play the offer and the amount of time my daughter is encouraged to play in the outside space which she absolutely loves. I highly recommend Sycamores.

My daughter attends the nursery 3 times a week and I can honestly say since being at Sycamore she has come on leaps and bounds. It's always a lovely feeling in the nursery and all children and staff are really happy. The manager and her staff have really turned a corner since she took over and I can

Our 18-month-old has been at Sycamore House for 8 months. We cannot be happier with the standard of care he is receiving there. The staff are hugely caring, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We receive daily, weekly and periodic reports about our son's activities and progress. He is invariably reluctant
to leave when we pick him up, which is testament, we feel, to the warm, loving environment at Sycamore House. Our little one has food allergies which are treated seriously and responsibly by the staff. The range of activities, even at the baby level, is excellent. I would have no hesitation recommending Sycamore House to parents.

I have two boys who attend Sycamore House Day Nursery (baby and pre-school room) and they thoroughly enjoy their time there! The staff are very friendly and always greet the boys happily. My 1.5-year-old son has been going to Sycamore for the past 6 months and he always has a lovely day there.
He finds it really hard to leave Mummy in the mornings but the girls in the baby room give him loads of cuddles and time to help him settle, after a few minutes he is having fun and playing well.
The staff keep me well informed of how his day has gone and don't mind if I call up during the day to check on him either.
The longer daytime hours work really well with my work, meaning I don't have to worry about rushing off at the end of the day.

My son is 3.5 years old and has been attending Sycamore House for the past 1.5 years after we moved to the area. We originally chose the nursery for the location, the hours they open (7am-7pm no extra cost) and for the friendliness of the staff.


The manager and assistant manager go to huge lengths

to benchmark their practices against others in the industry, and what's really lovely is they keep the parents in the loop with their findings and how they are going to implements these changes.


As a parent, I feel very informed of what activities my little boy has been up to in the week. The management team send out regular updates about what's been going on in each room and how certain actives benefit the children and their learning.


Overall, I am very impressed with the nursery and the staff. They really do care about the children who attend. My little boy loves going and sometimes when I pick him up, he gets upset with me and asks me to take him back to 'school'.

My daughter has been at the nursery since November 2016. She has come on leaps and bounds being at Sycamore and hearing of all the activities they get up to on a daily basis is so exciting and has been amazing for her development. She is now a very confident little girl and loves going to nursery being
only 18 months old seems mad but she gets excited when we pull into the nursery car park now. I would highly recommend Sycamore to friends and family for the overall care and time staff give to the children.

The staff are so warm and welcoming here. They really did help me to feel at ease when settling my baby in and reassuring me she was doing ok. Definitely would recommend to others. I love getting a feedback report everyday about what my little girl has been doing each day.

My daughter has attended Sycamore house since she was 9 months old and has moved from the baby room, to the toddler room and onto the 2-3 room seamlessly. The Key workers assigned at the different stages have been well suited and worked hard to accommodate her needs and development. She has progressed
very well in this environment, in particular her good manners! The support she receives from the staff means she is happy and confident. As she can be at nursery for an 11 hour day is has been very important to us that she is so happy here.

My name is Kerry Braulik, and I am the Nursery Manager at Sycamore House Day Nursery in Bishop’s Stortford.


With nearly 20 years of experience in childcare, I am deeply passionate about early childhood education. I am committed to providing the best possible support to help young children reach their full potential, grow, and thrive in a nurturing environment.


Throughout my career in Early Years, I have worked in various settings, including teaching and assessing apprentices in early years education. I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years, and a Level 3 Diploma in Child Psychology, and have recently completed my Level 3 Diploma in Mentoring. I continuously update my training and collaborate closely with our Early Years Advisory team.


It is a great honour to lead the dedicated and wonderful team at Sycamore House.
