The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Sycamore House Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Sycamore House Day Nursery in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.531 for Sycamore House Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (161 Excellents x 5) + (119 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.531

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sycamore House Day Nursery is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 13.2 positive Reviews (66 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 22 Reviews ÷ 13.2 Target Reached = 1

Our daughter is 3.5yrs old and has been at this nursery since she was 9 months. There have been changes of staff, these are always done smoothly with no disruption to the children. We have regular parents evenings and interaction with staff at drop off/pick up and the care and consideration they show is second to none.

Our daughter loves going and seeing her friends, both staff and peers. There’s a great indoor and outdoor learning.

It’s lovely to see staff as a team. All are so approachable and helpful with any issues. We’re kept up to date with news, activities and new initiatives the nursery have through the newsletters. The Facebook page shows the level of learning and development of the children and staff and the fabulous team building and training for staff that goes on, it’s really heartwarming to see.

All credit to the manager and her team, and special thanks to the pre-school team. Well done on a job outstandingly done.

I found this nursery at the last moment when I was looking for childcare last year. I have been always satisfied, the staff are incredibly hardworking and nice, I love the opening hours. My daughter has improved her language skills so much since she has been there. I find it a good idea that the nursery is on social media so I always see what activities they have been doing. Overall I am very happy with Sycamore, and would totally recommend it to other parents who are looking for childcare.

I can't thank you more for the support and care which two of my kids receive from the staff. They joined the Sycamore Nursery in October. The whole lovely team at the nursery were and are fabulous and very very supportive. Both of my kids don't speak English and that was a huge challenge for the staff and very difficult for me and especially for my daughter who speaks Polish excellent already. The staff of Sycamore Nursery have done such huge work with them, I can't describe it by using words. The number of different activities and thousands of different ideas they offer are just amazing.
Me and my husband would like to say a big thank you to all who work in the nursery and especially we would like to thank the manager who does a great job, we don't know what we would do without her.

My son started this nursery in September. He initially had some difficulties settling but the staff were very supportive, caring and accommodating. My son now thoroughly enjoys going to nursery.

As parents we are always kept up to date with events, activities by email and images on social media of children's learning throughout the day.

Our daughter has been at Sycamore for 3 months now, ever since we moved from Iceland to Bishop's Stortford. It was a big change for her, as she is a shy girl who doesn't trust adults easily but the staff at the nursery has from day one emphasised on building trust and getting to know her characteristics; going the extra mile in our opinion which has led to a big positive change in her.

We particularly like how much the nursery gives priority to being a learning centre with a different theme every week. We also like how the staff encourages the children to get messy and explore different things from nature etc. The creativity is incredible. Furthermore, we really like the active posts on Facebook and would rate the communication from the staff as excellent.

All of the staff is so wonderful and it is apparent that they love what they do. Our daughter looks forward to going to the nursery every day and talks about playing with her friends from the second she wakes up!

We can't fault the nursery for the care and support provided to our 2-year-old by all the staff. He requires a bit more support than other 2-year-olds and this has been more than met by the nursery with regular development meetings and specific activities devised for him to assist with his development.

In particular, the toddler room staff are fantastic and the deputy manager has been excellent. He loves going into the nursery and enjoys all the activities he does there including singing, reading, cooking, painting and most of all, playing outside! He always comes home with dirty or wet clothes which is the sign of a good day! Highlights of the year include a visit by the local firemen in a fire engine and playing in the leaves in the gated front car park!

Hello Katherine,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a lovely review!

My son attends Sycamore House Day Nursery and I believe it's helped him grow as an individual. He's an outdoors child and he gets this from Sycamore most days, which means he's had a full day once he gets home.
They help him with language and dealing with the (soon) arrival of his sibling.
I believe he gets great care and personally connects I was looking for.
Also, the new rooms which are in place are great and allow him to explore the things in there as he wants and to use his imagination.
I couldn't recommend the school more.

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your lovely feedback!

Our daughter is 4 years old and has attended the nursery she was 9 months old. We are pleased with the care she has received and she is very happy and settled at nursery. Sycamore House has some really wonderful staff who our daughter has formed strong bonds with. Her development has come on brilliantly and we are confident that she will be very ready for school when she goes next September. Management change at the end of last year has been positive and it is clear that management and staff are looking to continuously make improvements.

Communication with parents at handover, through regular email updates, and via the Facebook page is much better, as is the increase in the range of activities and learning opportunities offered to the children. This being a nursery in the centre of town outside space is limited, but they make the best of it. The children go outside every day regardless of weather which is great, my daughter, in particular, loves the mud kitchen!!

Hello Helen,

Thank you for writing this wonderful review about us at Sycamore House!

My daughter has been at Sycamore for nearly 3 years, since she was 6 months old, and her little sister will be joining her next year. We particularly like that they really encourage the children to explore and get messy, even if it means she comes home a bit dirty from baking, painting and puddle jumping! It means I don't feel bad about not doing much messy play at home as I know she does lots at nursery.

Hello Katie,

Thank you for your lovely comments about our Nursery!

Sycamore House has gone through a period of change and is now coming out of the other side for the better. With ongoing changes and improvements, this is becoming a great place for children to start their learning. The staff do care whilst management are continually looking at the ways to develop themselves and their staff in order to enrich the child’s time at the nursery.
The food is prepared and cooked fresh daily and the meat is sourced locally while the menus offer a balanced, nutritious diet.
The only real negative is the lack of outside space, but with the nursery being an old converted house, it does offer a certain quirkiness to it.
Communication with the parents is good with regular posts on social media and email updates and you do feel like you’re being listened to whether it be a suggestion, question or issue.
All in all, Sycamore House knows where it’s shortcomings are, but is working hard to address these which makes it a welcoming place for children and parents to come.

Hello Andrew, thank you for taking the time to write a review about us at Sycamore House and giving us some feedback. As you are aware we are on a continuous journey of reflection and improvement striving to improve our practice and the service we offer!

I first enrolled my son at Sycamore House when he was just nine months old. He is now nearly four and stopped going to Sycamore House as I am getting him ready for school.

I have seen a few managers come and go but in the past year I have seen a huge difference in management and can only say how impressive the current manager has been with her professionalism towards staff and how the nursery has changed from just a drop off for working parents to a fully functioning learning centre. The children seem so much happier as the activities have become more structured and have a learning theme as well as teaching manners and respect.
The rooms of the nursery have become brighter and children's paintwork and crafts are put up on the walls as well as pictures of activities. The rooms are also clearly labelled.
Sycamore House is coming on leaps and bounds and if this excellence continues I'm sure there will be a waiting list to get in.

Hello, Alfred,
Thank you for writing a lovely review about us at Sycamore. It has been a pleasure looking after your son.

Having had my son at this nursery for almost 3 years there has been some big changes and improvements over the years. The management are friendly and approachable but also flexible and open minded. In regards to the staff, in our experience here I would describe them as generally good however there are a couple of outstanding staff members who go the extra mile. This is one of the main reason why my little boy has enjoyed being at this nursery and why we keep taking him back.
The nursery offers a range of activities including day trips out. These have helped my little boy increase his social skills as well as general development. If you have any concerns with your child's development the staff and management will work with you to help improve and support you and your child.

Overall I would describe the nursery as having a friendly atmosphere and although is already at a good standard they continue to monitor developments and improve.

From my first encounter with the nursery right through until now I have been very impressed with how helpful the staff are and the great relationship they have developed with my daughter. I really like the variety of play the offer and the amount of time my daughter is encouraged to play in the outside space which she absolutely loves. I highly recommend Sycamores.

Hello Catherine,

Thank you for the fantastic review you have written about us at Sycamore House!

Our 18-month-old has been at Sycamore House for 8 months. We cannot be happier with the standard of care he is receiving there. The staff are hugely caring, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We receive daily, weekly and periodic reports about our son's activities and progress. He is invariably reluctant to leave when we pick him up, which is testament, we feel, to the warm, loving environment at Sycamore House. Our little one has food allergies which are treated seriously and responsibly by the staff. The range of activities, even at the baby level, is excellent. I would have no hesitation recommending Sycamore House to parents.

Hello Lucy,

Thank you for your lovely review of Sycamore House!

My 1.5-year-old son has been going to Sycamore for the past 6 months and he always has a lovely day there.
He finds it really hard to leave Mummy in the mornings but the girls in the baby room give him loads of cuddles and time to help him settle, after a few minutes he is having fun and playing well.
The staff keep me well informed of how his day has gone and don't mind if I call up during the day to check on him either.
The longer daytime hours work really well with my work, meaning I don't have to worry about rushing off at the end of the day.

Hello Laura,

Thank you for writing such a lovely review about us at Sycamore House.

My son is 3.5 years old and has been attending Sycamore House for the past 1.5 years after we moved to the area. We originally chose the nursery for the location, the hours they open (7am-7pm no extra cost) and for the friendliness of the staff.

The manager and assistant manager go to huge lengths to benchmark their practices against others in the industry, and what's really lovely is they keep the parents in the loop with their findings and how they are going to implements these changes.

As a parent, I feel very informed of what activities my little boy has been up to in the week. The management team send out regular updates about what's been going on in each room and how certain actives benefit the children and their learning.

Overall, I am very impressed with the nursery and the staff. They really do care about the children who attend. My little boy loves going and sometimes when I pick him up, he gets upset with me and asks me to take him back to 'school'.

My daughter has been at the nursery since November 2016. She has come on leaps and bounds being at Sycamore and hearing of all the activities they get up to on a daily basis is so exciting and has been amazing for her development. She is now a very confident little girl and loves going to nursery being only 18 months old seems mad but she gets excited when we pull into the nursery car park now. I would highly recommend Sycamore to friends and family for the overall care and time staff give to the children.

Hello Gemma,

Thank you for the lovely review! We are really glad that you would recommend us here at Sycamore House!

My daughter has attended Sycamore house since she was 9 months old and has moved from the baby room, to the toddler room and onto the 2-3 room seamlessly. The Key workers assigned at the different stages have been well suited and worked hard to accommodate her needs and development. She has progressed very well in this environment, in particular her good manners! The support she receives from the staff means she is happy and confident. As she can be at nursery for an 11 hour day is has been very important to us that she is so happy here.

Thank you for your review :)

The staff are so warm and welcoming here. They really did help me to feel at ease when settling my baby in and reassuring me she was doing ok. Definitely would recommend to others. I love getting a feedback report everyday about what my little girl has been doing each day.
