My son started at Children 1st at Rosemary Lane at 9 months old. I was so anxious that this was a young age but the staff and management within the baby room have just been incredible; a great support to both him and us as parents. All at Children 1st at Rosemary Lane have been extremely accommodating
to my son's dietary needs in the beginning with bottles. He is extremely settled after only a short time of a big change. He loves all of the food choices, is sleeping really well and loving life at Children 1st at Rosemary Lane! Thank you to everyone involved and especially his key worker - you're all fab!

My grandson started at Rosemary Lane as a shy and slightly anxious, non-walking, babbling baby. He is now a confident, articulate boy. He knows himself well, has a kind and caring outlook and isn't frightened of expressing his opinion in a considered manner (most of the time!)
He is not a perfect
package and I am bound to be biased, but as a retired primary teacher, I recognise a child who will thrive in school. Given the difficulties children face as a result of Covid restrictions, the staff at Rosemary Lane have worked tirelessly to foster emotionally resilient youngsters. They encourage children to talk about their emotions through stories.
My grandson loves books, building, role play and making things. The learning environment is wonderful, as are the professional and friendly staff. A lot of thought and hard work goes into planning child and staff-led learning opportunities. I have a grandson really looking forward to school. What more could you ask for? Thank you!
Reply from David Hancock, Chief Executive at Children 1st Rosemary Lane Nursery SchoolDear Catherine, Thank you so much for taking the time to share this heartfelt review. It’s so lovely to hear all the positive things you have to say about our Rosemary Lane setting. I’m so pleased to hear about your grandson's development throughout his Children 1st journey and best of luck to him for September!

My 9 month old started on the 4th of July. I was anxious as he had spent most of his 9 months with me always being there and was quite clingy. But, he absolutely loves it! He's so smiley when he gets there and smiley when I pick him up. I can already see it's helping his development. The staff are incredible,
super friendly and welcoming. The range of meals is fantastic, I'm super keen on my son trying everything when it comes to food so I was so impressed to see the menu and to see his food diary at the end of the day. I love that he has a diary to keep me updated on his day and the app is great for allowing me to update his details and development and to see his observations and photos.

Both of our children attend this nursery and they have been excellent at all times. The kids have made loads of friends and have a wonderful time. There is always a huge variety of activities for the kids to do. The outdoor space is particularly impressive and our kids love it. The staff are generally
very pleasant and welcoming and you can tell that they enjoy what they do. I'd thoroughly recommend this nursery to anyone.

My son began attending Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane Day Nursery in May 2023. Since then he has thrived and his communication has really improved during this time.
Every morning we attend we are greeted by the polite and professional staff. The nursery is always clean and well-presented. The security
at the nursery is also second to none meaning that I can feel assured that my son is safe during his stay.
Communication is excellent between parents and staff with an easy-to-use app on my phone and also with his diary which is filled in during every visit which tells us how he’s eaten, drank, slept and his activities for the day. The staff have always been honest about how my son is settling which I also really appreciate.
Invoicing is super simple and invoices are received in plenty of time for me to pay them which is ideal.
My son’s favourite part of being at Rosemary Lane Nursery are the outside areas where he can play safely in the shade and the lovely, friendly staff.
An excellent nursery.

This is the best nursery by far...my little girl is in her final year soon. She loves going and is always happy. The staff here are extremely excellent, we couldn't be more happy and feel safe, 100%, to leave our little one here. The nursery is also very big and has loads of different things for the
kids to do...10/10.

Our daughter loves going to Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane Nursery. She’s been going just over a year and her development since starting has gone from strength to strength. Within weeks she was crawling and soon followed this with walking. Her speech and language skills are incredible and we wholly believe
the nursery has helped incredibly with this development.

My son has been at Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane since September 2021 after we relocated from another county. We were nervous at how well he would settle into a new nursery but we needn’t have worried, Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane is incredible! The nursery itself is amazing with so much for children
of all ages in each of the dedicated and themed rooms but it is the staff that really make the nursery so special. They are so supportive of the children and really do help them to grow and develop each day. My son absolutely loves going to nursery and sometimes we even struggle to get him to leave! We will be sad to no longer be part of the Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane family when he leaves for school in September! We highly recommend the nursery to anyone local looking for somewhere special to send their little ones!

Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane Day Nursery is absolutely brilliant. We have been using them as a family since August 2018 for two children and they have been fantastic. They are kind, empathic and have always listened when we have needed them too. Both my children fell in love with the staff there. My
youngest child moves up to school in September, so we'll no longer be using them, but the relationships that have been built with the staff will be a sore loss. A highly recommended, incredible nursery.

Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane has continued to be a phenomenal source of support for us. Our son came into the nursery as a small baby and the staff have been amazing throughout his whole journey. He's now in Peter Rabbits and we are just seeing him grow from strength to strength. He loves nursery and
the staff are so caring and supportive for the whole family. Our son is always so excited to go and see the staff. It's an absolute pleasure at pick up and drop off as he's just so happy and now he's downstairs we get an extra treat getting to see him out and about playing in the garden with his friends. The resources are brilliant and the staff care so much. It's a fantastic nursery and I'd recommend it to anyone!

The Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane team have worked so hard to create an exciting and inclusive learning experience for our son. We were anxious when we initially began looking at different nurseries but Rosemary Lane provided a professional and reassuring presence throughout - our son has autism and
the team has worked tirelessly to create a bespoke learning experience for him as without this he would struggle with mainstream curriculum. They have encouraged his eagerness to learn through play and celebrated his victories - he has come on leaps and bounds - we are very grateful for all they have done for our son and I can't recommend this nursery enough to other parents looking for a warm, family-orientated nursery.
Reply from David Hancock, Chief Executive at Children 1st Rosemary Lane Nursery SchoolDear Melissa, thank you for this five-star review, your comments will have a huge impact on our amazing colleagues at the nursery. Although caring for children is our job, it really is lovely to hear how we made a difference and I cannot thank you enough for your very kind words. I am so pleased to know your son has come on leaps and bounds.

When we were nervous to begin nursery for our 10-month-old in August of 2022, the staff at Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane Day Nursery could not have been more caring and welcoming to our son and us as emotional parents! I cannot praise them highly enough for the care they take of our, now 15-month-old,
son. He simply adores going there and we see how happy he is every day when we pick him up. All the staff are friendly, engaging and professional - there is nothing more we could ask for in caring for our son. Thank you to everyone who works at Rosemary Lane for creating an environment we are so pleased to send our child to and see him flourish in.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.732)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.732) out of 10 for Children 1st Rosemary Lane Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.965 for Children 1st Rosemary Lane Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (220 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 228 Ratings = 4.965
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.767 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Children 1st Rosemary Lane Nursery School is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 number of registered child places is 24. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 24 = 0.792
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2014

Hello, I’m Louisa, the Nursery Manager at Rosemary Lane. I’ve worked in Early Years for over 20 years, and my journey began as a newly qualified practitioner after completing my training at Lincoln College. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of developing my career within Children 1st, and for more than a decade now, I’ve proudly led the wonderful team here at Rosemary Lane.

One of the things I love most about our nursery is the sense of community we’ve created and our fantastic outdoor space — a real hidden gem for an inner-city setting. It’s a joy to welcome new families, showing them around and sharing the exciting experiences we offer the children every day.

I’m incredibly proud of my team; they’re passionate, nurturing, and committed to providing a safe, stimulating environment where children can thrive. I’d be delighted to show you around our nursery and talk about how we can support your child on their early years journey.
