My daughter has attended this nursery since just after her first birthday and has absolutely thrived there. She feels secure when I drop her off and instantly runs to one of the staff members or off to play. I barely get a wave goodbye most days! They monitor her progress against EY milestones and send through regular observations and updates with accompanying photos. The Parent Zone app is great for keeping updated with her day and I personally love getting the notifications through even the ones for a soiled nappy! The children are constantly stimulated and encouraged to try new things. They have a lovely outside space with a designated enclosed playground and a large playing field with playhouses, garden toys, wildlife garden and gardening area. The menu is always very well thought out and changed often with plenty of fruit and veg included, but above everything else, the staff are genuinely all absolutely lovely and are clearly very fond of all the children in their care.
Our boys have both been so happy at Tigers Day Nursery. The staff are caring and know them so well. My eldest, age 7, still comes to French club as he still loves Tigers! (The French teacher is superb.) The forest school and wild garden are great. Highly recommended.
Staff are fantastic and she gains so much for her time here.
My son loves his mornings at nursery, he goes in happily and never wants to come home with me! He always does such a big variety of activities and the facilities there are great. He loves the staff in his room and it's lovely to feel confident at work knowing my little boy is ok and having fun.
Fantastic setting with a huge range of media and environments to excite and engage both of my children. I wouldn't have them anywhere else. The staff are fabulous too.
We have been sending our child to Tigers Day Nursery for 2 years and we couldn't have asked for a better place to send our child. Our child has loved every minute of being at Tigers Day Nursery and the level of care they have shown has been second to none. The staff are always approachable and willing to accommodate the needs of our child. If you are on the fence about where to send your child then don't be, send them to Tigers and you won't regret it.
I have been so pleased with so many aspects of the nursery, in particular:
- The activities are well planned and incorporate plenty of learning through play. The outdoor space is fantastic and helps to facilitate this.
- All special dietary requirements are well understood and catered for.
- the nursery is extremely clean and excellent hygiene is practised.
Our overall experience has been amazing.
My son loves his nursery days and is so excited to see the new toys on offer each morning when he goes in.
Tigers give you regular updates on what your child has achieved in the day.
The team at Tigers are welcoming, polite, professional and reassuring. As soon as I met the Manager of Tigers, I knew I wanted my child to attend this nursery. She knew every single child’s name.
The outside space at Tigers is wonderful and they encourage the children outside regularly, in all weathers to make sure they get fresh air and exercise.
Even after a full day of playing outside, I always find that all of my son's belongings are packed away neatly in his bag ready to leave and I get a full rundown of my son's day.
My son's language skills are always vastly improved after a day at nursery too.
I would highly recommend Tigers Day Nursery to anyone looking for daycare in Newbury.
Our son has been at Tigers since he was one. We literally couldn’t ask for a better place for him to be in. It was the only nursery we looked at and after our first visit, we knew that was the place for him. The attention to detail is amazing, not only with the day to day activities for him but also the extra weekly experiences he takes part in there. He loves the wild garden on a Friday learning about outdoor things like bugs and trees. His overall development has come on so much since joining and he’s made plenty of new friends. Overall a wonderful place where all his needs are met and surpassed.
The staff are well-trained staff and the management has planned schedule for the kids with regular updates via app.
We moved our daughter to Tigers 18 months ago and have been thoroughly impressed with the care and attention our daughter has received. She settled quickly, made friends and enjoyed going each day to join in with the exciting activities on offer. Would definitely recommend.
Returning to work after having a baby is never easy. I decided to go back to work 8 months after having my first child and it was an easy decision to make to put him in Tigers. We came and looked around at an open day and were incredibly impressed by the facilities.
Since he joined the nursery in July 2018, my son has thrived. His development has been nourished and nurtured and his personality has been accommodated to shine.
Staff are fantastically passionate about caring for children and giving them great experiences day to day.
The rooms are well equipped and the bubble room is a great escape. There are great outdoor facilities too as well as little day trips.
My son has made some great little friends and comes home beaming from great days at Tigers.
I cannot recommend Tigers highly enough! It’s exceptional.
I cannot fault Tigers Day Nursery. From the very first enquiry, they have been so friendly, accommodating and understanding. I was so nervous leaving my daughter to go back to work, but they put in a fantastic settling in programme and worked with me to ensure she was happy and settled. The staff are fantastic, always caring and provide detailed feedback about the child’s day. They do lots of varied activities with the children that support their development and have great outdoor space for the children to explore. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this nursery.
In this year, we've had amazing support for our child and ourselves. The staff are professional and warm and the turnover remains low, which helps with consistency and well being. The nursery is fun and educational, with great spaces both inside and out.
Excellent nursery. My son is very happy; he is always excited when I tell him he’s going to Tigers. The staff know my child well and any issues are dealt with immediately. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic nursery. My first born and second have attended and currently, my son is there full time. Couldn't be happier with the facilities, know they are safe and entertained and well fed and looked after. Great to see horses outside in the next field, and a variety of outdoor spaces to play in and explore.
My son has been attending Tigers for the last 2.5 years and I could not be happier. He has moved through the rooms and all staff we have come across have been warm and friendly and amazing with all of the children. He has fun educational activities each day, loves being able to play outside as much as possible and comes home happy every day. I can also relax knowing he is safe and looked after and has great homemade food each day.
Excellent nursery! We moved our eldest thereafter we weren't too happy with a different nursery and couldn't have been happier. Number 2 duly followed and our youngest (no. 3) is still there and we continue to be as happy as we were from day 1 with our eldest. The staff are excellent and the nursery offers a good range of additional activities which take place during the day, including dance, French and football. The wild garden is a great place for the children to run around and explore the outdoors, but still in a safe environment and the children generally spend a lot of time outdoors. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an excellent nursery in the area.
When I leave my son with the team at Tigers I never have to worry. From the settling in sessions at 9 months to present at 18 months old my son loves nursery! It’s been such an important aspect of shaping who he is and I look forward to continuing his journey with them and watching him learn and grow. They are kind, flexible and the relief of knowing he’s in good hands when I’m at work is great. I can’t recommend them enough! Thank you Tigers!
Tigers Day Nursery is outstanding! My son has attended this nursery since he was 7 months old (he's now 3.5 years old) and he absolutely loves it. The provision of care is of an excellent standard. The staff are not only friendly and helpful, they are very proactive in ensuring the children's development. The nursery itself is in a lovely location surrounded by horse paddocks which the children love to see. Outdoors, there are several spacious and well-maintained playgrounds and meadows for forest school. Inside each room is beautifully decorated and the range of activities provided for the children is very varied. There's always something interesting and new going on and no end of activities from dancing to arts and crafts, from French lessons to outdoor activities. The management and staff take a collaborative approach to work with parents and the nursery provides excellent provision for children with special educational needs. I can't recommend Tigers highly enough!

Right from the beginning Tigers has delivered outstanding care in a happy, friendly and loving environment, always working in partnership with parents, keeping them informed and involved.
As our business has expanded, our exceptional standards have always remained and we are justifiably proud of our dedicated, knowledgeable and caring staff. All members of our management team share our passion for quality childcare and together we provide the leadership, training, resources and environment for our nursery staff to excel at what they do and to keep Tigers at the forefront of nursery care. Many of our team have been with Tigers for several years, giving continuity and a unique family atmosphere to our nurseries.
Tigers’ ethos is and always has been to provide the best possible experience for each and every child in a safe, stimulating environment supported by loving, friendly staff – something we hold dear to our hearts.
I have a background in Education, specialising in Early Years. I have always been drawn to Early Years, primarily as an Early Years teacher, Leader and Manager of Nurseries, Montessori and mainstream schools. I have a wealth of experience that I draw on constantly, from being a Forest School Leader, Inclusion Officer and a Signalong Tutor.
I am extremely passionate about our youngest children. I enjoy learning new skills, constantly researching new ways to teach and support children, and training and supporting other practitioners to ensure we meet each individual child’s needs to become independent learners.
I am super excited to have joined Tigers, and to be part of this wonderful team here.
Hi, I’m Nicola Barkhouse, Senior Nursery Manager of Tigers Day Nursery. I came to Tigers as a placement as part of my NNEB training in 1997 and joined the company in 1999 when I finished my qualification. Since then I have completed my level 4 and level 5 childcare qualifications.
Over the years I have worked with all age groups as a nursery nurse and room senior before becoming a manager. Stepping away from running my own room was a big decision but in my role now I have the best of both worlds as I am able to spend time with the children but also show new parents around the nursery and support the staff to achieve the high standards of care and teaching we offer at Tigers.
One of my roles is the nursery SENDCO and I really enjoy this role as I strongly believe that every child deserves the absolute best start in life and the opportunity to attend Nursery.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my five nephews and friends and family.
