Bright Horizons Barrow Day Nursery and Preschool

One small area for improvement would be introducing very basic phonics to help prepare children for school, but overall we had a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this nursery.

I know our children are - and will thrive there. This is incredibly reassuring.

My child is in the Explorers room in Barrow. The staff are always happy to greet the children, have great communication, and love how they update the app with pictures (it's nice to see while at work). My child is very happy and feels confident with all her caring and professional team.

We absolutely couldn't fault the nursery and all the staff. It's very nerve racking going back to work after a year off on maternity leave and having to leave your baby in a nursery but honestly from the moment my little girl started we've felt she's safe and happy, that's all we could wish for. I feel like her key worker and staff know her so well. She had come on so much since starting. We love the updates what she's been doing whilst she's been at nursery and seeing photos of her. They always update sleeps, food and nappy changes on the day as well. Overall, we couldn't recommend this nursery enough.

I was so nervous about putting my son into nursery. Viewed lots of nurseries in the area and Bright Horizons had the best resources in my view. I love that they update you throughout the day using the app and when you phone it's no problem. The first time I left him I cried as soon as I walked out the door. The staff saw me and were so supportive and friendly. My son had his observations and you could tell that they were talking about him and it wasn't just copied and pasted for each child. My son had a medical emergency at nursery and I was so impressed by how the situation was dealt with, it felt like the staff had everything under control and were very calm in the situation. The nursery kept in touch while my son was ill and I could tell they were genuinely concerned and they weren't just doing it to tick a box. Overall, staff are always happy, lively and smiling. My son has a smile on his face when I mention the names of the staff at nursery, he's happy I'm happy!

If you are considering sending your child here, I would highly recommend it. They thoroughly deserve their awards and successful Ofsted report.

I cannot rate this nursery highly enough. Our son started here in June 2021 and given that he was born in lockdown, and had spent the majority of his life in lockdown with minimal interactions with anybody outside of our “bubble”, we were anxious at how he would settle. Well, we needn’t have worried, the staff have been fantastic, always greeting our son by his name with a smile on their face and in a friendly manner. Nothing ever seems too much trouble for any member of staff. Having previously had a very poor experience at another nursery with our other child, we were apprehensive about using a nursery again but from day one, Bright Horizons has provided the best experience for our son, we couldn’t be happier. They have instilled so much confidence in us and we are forever grateful for providing such a good experience, we look forward to our journey together over the next couple of years. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending.

Friendly, welcoming staff who put the care of the children at the centre of all they do. Always met with a smile when dropping off and ask how my daughter is that day and information passed over clearly on collection. Play and learning at home bags are a lovely touch to take home which we have enjoyed doing together. My daughter settled in from day one with no problems and has always enjoyed going in to nursery, which is reassuring.

A wonderful nursery with genuine, caring staff. My son loves his days there and doesn’t look back as he goes through the door in the morning. I am confident that he is receiving the highest standard of care and does a wide variety of activities both educational and fun. Thank you to all the team.

Our little boy has a EHCP in place which the nursery has been so helpful and supportive from the start with his additional needs and getting the EHCP set up. I honestly cannot praise the nursery enough, I dread the day he has to leave to start school. His needs are met and catered to and the feedback we receive on how his day has been is wonderful. I can actually relax when he's in nursery knowing that first of all not only is he safe but he's actually enjoying his time there.

We have never met a member of staff that doesn't appear to be loving their job and being around the children. They're all wonderful, it says it all in the low staff turnover

Their outside space is great and it's safe, and I love their focus on independence. We get activities to do together at home for my daughter to take back in and talk about in her class, and the staff are always keen to hear about what we've been up to when she isn't at nursery so they can include it in her learning.

My daughter has settled amazingly into the nursery. As a 'lockdown baby' I was really anxious about how she would be at being left at the setting having had very little contact with other people except for immediate family, but all the staff have been so lovely and reassuring and she settles really well. The drop of and collection feels really covid safe, you can see how important everyone's safety is which is also reassuring. My child has a dairy allergy and the food that she has for her meals have been brilliant and varied, she is loving it which makes for a happy mummy and daddy too knowing she is eating well throughout the day. In her bag at the end of the day, there is a lovely little note that tells us everything we need to know, how she has been, what she has been doing, how she has eaten, slept and nappies (which are provided another bonus that I don't have to remember those too!) We are very happy and most importantly so is our daughter.

My daughter is in preschool at this nursery and has attended this nursery since she was 10 months old. She has such a good bond with her key worker and always talks about her at home and what activities she has done with her during the day. I am always at ease leaving her in their care.

Out of 3 nurseries, my oldest daughter has attended, Barrow Bright Horizons is the best. The staff are experienced, and the staff turnover appears to be low, so the children receive consistent care. The fees are expensive, but the level of service is high. They have never lost my daughter's belongings and do lots of activities. They even send activity bags home so there is a crossover with the learning and books they cover at nursery. Both my daughters also like the food, and they get 3 meals a day and are stuffed when they get home. The baby room staff are very caring and form a real bond with the kids in my experience. In the baby room, my daughter is changed regularly and never comes home sores, which sounds obvious, but has not been my experience at other nurseries.

My daughters been going here since she was 5-months-old and absolutely loves it! They really give the kids the chance to explore, learn and develop, and now my little one looks forward to her time at nursery every week. I have nothing but praise for this nursery!

Amazing nursery, could not recommend it more! They provided unconditional support for my SEN child over 3.5 years and for myself as a parent. They organised ECHP and referrals across the years for things such as physio and occupational therapy. They ensured he was included with his peers in everything they did. You feel like you are leaving your child with family!

Both my boys have attended and I cannot fault the staff here. Supportive in all aspects and I'm very sad for them to leave but they have gained the confidence to start their next step on the education ladder. Thank you all.

My second child is finishing at the nursery this summer as he is going to school. He has been at the nursery from 10 months old and my daughter prior to this was also at the nursery for 4 years before going to school. In the 6 years I have dealt with the nursery I have had no issues whatsoever, with nothing but praise for the quality of care my children have received. The classroom environment is lovely and the staff are amazing. A lot of the staff have been there throughout the last 6 years and have developed such lovely relationships with both myself and my children. I could not have asked for a better start for my children - thank you to everyone at the nursery.
