My two children (who are now 13 and 8) were full-time attendees from 6 and 9months old, and I really valued the care they received. My daughter had hip dysplasia at birth and through medical complications had to have surgery at 1-year-old and then spent 13 weeks in a chest-to-toe plaster cast. The practitioners
in the baby room went out of their way to ensure she was equipped with everything she needed to play, eat and rest in comfort. Both of my children learnt valuable social skills from a very early age and developed lovely friendships with children and practitioners alike. Rainbow has always been flexible when circumstances required, and I've even attended first aid training that the facility has arranged for parents. The rooms are clean, well-equipped and decorated and the outdoor spaces are fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rainbow to any new parent.

We moved our eldest child to Rainbow from another nursery 3-years ago, and the difference was unbelievable. Our youngest has now been through all the different age groups here and is moving onto school soon, but both will continue to use the holiday club here.
The staff are so professional, the setting
is clean and clearly invested in, there are amazing multiple outdoor play areas, and I love getting the daily updates via the app. But for us, one of the things that struck us most is how content the children are. At the previous nursery, we used there would always be children crying at drop off and pick up, but I think it is testament to how proactive the staff at Rainbow and how settled the children feel, that we rarely see children upset.
Rainbow nursery is a big setting and was overwhelming as a parent at first. But don't let this put you off - the daily contact is focussed on the room and staff where your child is.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rainbow to anyone.

Rainbow is a wonderful family environment where our children have thrived. The staff are great - always friendly, helpful and so caring. I’m constantly amazed by how quickly my children have developed - learning all the time and making wonderful friends. The outdoor space was one of the main attractions
of this nursery, and it is well used every day - the children really thrive on daily adventures! Can’t thank you enough for all you do for us.

Rainbows have been instrumental in my daughter's learning/development over the last 2-years.
The practitioners are incredible and create a fun and happy environment for the children.
The overall communication from Rainbows and seeing my daughter's learning journey through the app is fantastic and
gives me a great snapshot into her world on a daily basis.
I would highly recommend Rainbows.

My daughter has attended the nursery since she was 9-months-old right through to starting primary school where she now attends the before and after school club and the holiday clubs. She absolutely loves it. The staff are amazing, and I cannot fault the nursery setting. There is a huge outdoor space,
and there are always lots of activities. I would highly recommend it.

I have been very happy with this nursery for both my children who have been attending this now for almost a year without a break (even during lockdown for Covid-19!). I have experience of almost all rooms now from baby room to preschool, and I don't have a single complaint to make. All I can say is
that the staff are brilliant in taking care of the children with appropriate and varied activities for each development stage. The environment both inside and outside is very pleasant and stimulating, and one main reason why I chose this setting was the extensive outside spaces. Both my children love going to this nursery full-time every day, and I am pleased to always find them with a smiley face when I pick them up; I think this is the best proof that the nursery is actually doing an excellent job.

Both my children have attended Rainbow since being one-years-old, and they have thrived in the environment provided by the nursery. I have always had complete confidence that my children were safe and well looked after by caring staff while I had to go to work. The outside space at Rainbow is fantastic,
and the children love going out for walks and playtime; this allows a lot of interaction with nature and gives them a great opportunity for physical exercise. I would absolutely recommend this nursery to any prospective parents.

Rainbows nursery is outstanding. The level of care, the interaction, the genuine joy of teaching is second to none. Add to this green open spaces including an outdoor classroom, playgrounds and sports fields, plenty of space to run, puddle jump and hunt witches and Gruffalo's and a 'no weather is bad
weather, you just have to be dressed right' approach means that my children have grown up loving the outdoors and nature.
The educational element is based on play-based activities and art so that children learn maths and phonics as they enjoy lessons. I would wholeheartedly recommend Rainbows, your child will not only be in safe hands, but they will also thrive and be well set up for school. A special mention to two lovely ladies who are so enthusiastic every single day, and to the manager who manages Rainbows to such a high standard, always with a smile and time to stop and talk. Rainbows care educates and sparks joy in children and parents.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.109)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.109) out of 10 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is calculated as follows: ( (108 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.109 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 215 number of registered child places is 43. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 43 = 0.209
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2006

My name is Lisa Watson and I am the Nursery Manager here at Rainbow Nursery. My background has always been in Early Years, I went straight into college from leaving school to complete my Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years. After completing this I started my career working in a small day nursery.

I joined the Rainbow team in 2006, working as a nursery practitioner, after a couple of years I decided to go back into studying part time and completed my BA Hons Degree in Young Children’s Learning and Development and my Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). Since then I have been manager of the Baby Nursery, Deputy Manager of the nursery, and then took on the role of Nursery Manager in 2013.

As the manager at Rainbow Nursery my role alongside the managers of the Baby Nursery, Day Nursery, Preschool and Junior Club, is to ensure the smooth running of the nursery, ensuring our policies and procedures are implemented and the children receive the highest standard of care possible.

My vision for Rainbow Nursery is for it to be a home from home environment and an environment in which children can reach their full potential. Children learn best when they are comfortable. We encourage all of our practitioners to build strong bonds with the children, I also feel it is important that our management team do this as well. People often ask me how I remember every child’s name within the nursery….. this is because it is important to me that every child feels important and that they are treated as an individual.

I encourage open communication with parents/carers with both myself, the area managers and the practitioners. We love parents to engage with us in two way communication and use the industry leading Tapestry online learning journal to facilitate this. We don’t hold events such as ‘parents evenings’ at Rainbow as we will always make the time to talk to parents about their children at any time. Parent feedback is important to me, this is how we grow, how we know what we are doing right and how we know what we can improve on.
