Our daughter has attended Kids Planet for 18 months and I would thoroughly recommend the nursery. She has grown to look forward to going and had developed and made friends so well. The staff are helpful and friendly and the meals are an excellent selection

We have 2 children here who have attended since 11 months old and moved up through the rooms. We couldn't be happier with our choice of nursery. Practically they cover the hours we need for work, they have all the options for payment/ free hours etc and they provide food/ nappies so it's as easy as
possible. Being part of kids planet is actually a bonus, lots more investment in staff training and facilities (aircon in all the rooms!). The access to outside space and the amount of time spent here is one of the star highlights of Barkston ash.

But beyond this, despite being a 'big nursery', it has the feel of a family run nursery. The staff know all the children and there is a real bond between the staff and children, they are so happy after a day here. They are kept busy doing amazing activities, trips and learning and have great food. The staff are honestly so caring and nothing is a problem to manage. They go out of their way to make you and your child feel looked after.

My 2 and a half year old son has attended kids planet from the age of 11 months. From the tough transition from mater it leave to working back full time all the staff have made it so much easier with how they cared for my son and kept me updated with what he'd been up to during each day. He absolutely
loves this nursery and has been very fond of each staff member as he's moved through the rooms. They have been so supportive of any changes he goes through and his vocabulary and personality have grown so much with the support of kids planet. I can't recommend them enough.

I enrolled my son into the nursery in September 2025 after a bad experience with another childcare provider. My son struggled with his speech and was very shy, mostly keeping to himself. 3 months later, he is speaking in full sentences, has friends that he plays with and talk about all the time and
tells me how much he loves his teachers. For me, this is the best news as I was so worried about how he would settle in. It's a very professional setting where your child is taught life skills though fun activities. Even though this nursery is slightly more costly than our previous one, it's worth every penny as you can't put a price on your child's safety and happiness.

My little boy has been going to this nursery for the last year, since he turned 1 year old and has been through 2 classes as he's grown and developed. I was so nervous to send my little one to nursery but I'm so glad I chose Kids Planet at Barkston Ash. All of the practitioners are so lovely and I can
tell that they truly care for the children they look after. They provide so much reassurance with the children's well being and development. Being able to access photographs (via an app) of my little boy enjoying all of the age appropriate activities and eating varied meals is also super reassuring. The children spend plenty of time outdoors, exploring, along with the staff supporting reading and activities to help their development and also supporting nap schedules.
Admin staff are also very helpful when required and always try to accommodate all our wants and needs.
I'll forever be grateful for them making this an easy start to our childcare experience.

Absolutely fantastic nursery. The staff are amazing and really care. My child loves going to nursery. They spend a lot of time outside and doing activities with the children. We get regular updates on how my son is doing/what he has been up to during the day. They have varied, healthy meals and when
I recently had to change my son's diet, they accommodated for this immediately. Would highly recommend.

My daughter loves going to nursery she was in babies room, then another room before going into tots. She started nursery in Sep 24 so has been there a year.
She gets really nice home made food, does lots of activities and the staff really do care.
They take the time to know medical history and ask
how y it r child has gone on at appointments.
It was always going to be this nursery for us she will go to pre school here also.

Our child has been attending this nursery since he was 10 months old, and we couldn't be happier with the care he receives. From the very beginning, everyone has been incredibly approachable, kind, and supportive. The staff are always warm and welcoming, which has made it so easy for us to feel confident
leaving our little one in their care.

Our child absolutely loves his time at the nursery - he goes in with a smile and comes home happy, which says it all. We really appreciate the regular updates we receive throughout the day, as it helps us feel connected and reassured. Communication is excellent, and the staff are always happy to answer questions or chat about how he's doing.

Overall, we feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful nursery. It's clear that the team genuinely cares, and we can see how much our child is thriving in their care.

Our baby has a lovely time at nursery. The staff take extra care to get to know each child and cater for their needs.
Our baby clearly has a lovely relationship with the main carers, smiling at them each morning.
The nursery is located in a great village setting with a nice large outdoor area for
the children to play. We feel really comfortable sending our child here.

Our daughter has been at this nursery full time since she was 8 months old, and she is now in preschool. From the very beginning, the nursery has been nothing short of exceptional.

The manager sets the tone for everything-she not only runs the nursery brilliantly but also fosters a true partnership

with parents. It really feels like a joint approach to raising your child, which is so important when they spend so much of their time there.

From accommodating dietary requirements and even collaborating on menus, to offering support and understanding during a very difficult time when her father and I separated, the entire team has shown nothing but genuine care and compassion for our daughter. It is so clear that they know her, value her, and want the best for her.

As we prepare to move out of the area, one of the things I am most sad about is leaving this wonderful nursery. The staff have all said how much they will miss her-and I know they truly mean it, given the strong bonds she has

My child has been at Kids Planet for 3 years and they have nutured like their own child. She has recently left pre school and the work the staff have done with them to prepare them for school is outstanding. Also the graduation ceremony for pre school leavers is such a lovely little touch.
I feel
safe and comfortable leaving my child in the care of the staff here which is one of the most important criteria for a nursery.

My little girl moved to Kids Planet Barkston Ash following a few issues with her previous childcare provider. The difference I’ve seen in her since moving to you is incredible. She’s so happy, confident, showing me new things she’s learning every day! I’ve seen her come on leaps and bounds in every
way, particularly socially!
Every staff member have been really lovely and keep us informed, I love the updates and reports! Moving her to Kids Planet has been the best decision we’ve made.

The care and experiences my child receives are excellent. Having looked around at the local provision, we are so happy with our decision to allow the staff at Kids Planet to be a part of our son’s upbringing. The staff truly get to know the child and the family so they can engage the child in conversation.
Our son’s speech development has come on so quickly as a result. He is always well fed and cared for, loves playing outside and the sports coach is a real winner for him and us. We can’t rate the communication we have with the room staff and management highly enough and this really is key for us. I would definitely recommend the nursery.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.276)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.276) out of 10 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.956 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is calculated as follows: ( (196 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 204 Ratings = 4.956
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.32 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 215 number of registered child places is 43. 17 Positive Reviews ÷ 43 = 0.395
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2006

My name is Lisa Watson and I am the Nursery Manager here at Rainbow Nursery. My background has always been in Early Years, I went straight into college from leaving school to complete my Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years. After completing this I started my career working in a small day nursery.

I joined the Rainbow team in 2006, working as a nursery practitioner, after a couple of years I decided to go back into studying part time and completed my BA Hons Degree in Young Children’s Learning and Development and my Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). Since then I have been manager of the Baby Nursery, Deputy Manager of the nursery, and then took on the role of Nursery Manager in 2013.

As the manager at Rainbow Nursery my role alongside the managers of the Baby Nursery, Day Nursery, Preschool and Junior Club, is to ensure the smooth running of the nursery, ensuring our policies and procedures are implemented and the children receive the highest standard of care possible.

My vision for Rainbow Nursery is for it to be a home from home environment and an environment in which children can reach their full potential. Children learn best when they are comfortable. We encourage all of our practitioners to build strong bonds with the children, I also feel it is important that our management team do this as well. People often ask me how I remember every child’s name within the nursery….. this is because it is important to me that every child feels important and that they are treated as an individual.

I encourage open communication with parents/carers with both myself, the area managers and the practitioners. We love parents to engage with us in two way communication and use the industry leading Tapestry online learning journal to facilitate this. We don’t hold events such as ‘parents evenings’ at Rainbow as we will always make the time to talk to parents about their children at any time. Parent feedback is important to me, this is how we grow, how we know what we are doing right and how we know what we can improve on.
