The staff here are incredible and give so much energy, knowledge and patience, to make sure the children’s learning experience is one that will give them the best start in life.
From a parent’s perspective, they listen to you if you have concerns or questions and the management team have always been
very accommodating if we needed flexibility.
My little boy has been at Kids Planet since he was 7 months old and he is now coming up to his final few months before he leaves for primary school. He’s grown in confidence and ability over the years and I know that this, in part, is down to his time at Kids Planet.
He often comes home (loudly) singing a new song, or will talk non-stop about something new. The recent sessions that covered fitness and the human body have offered a new dimension to their learning - and, from looking at the pictures (a highlight of my day) and hearing all of his wonderfully enthusiastic details - went down a storm!
Thanks Kids Planet.

Such an incredible nursery which truly has the children's best interests at heart! The staff are all so lovely and welcoming. My little one loves going to nursery and as a mummy, there's no better feeling than seeing his face light up when he sees the lovely staff! Thank you all, for being so wonderful,
every single day!

My son has attended this nursery since he was 9 months old, the level of care he has received has always been outstanding!
The practitioners go above and beyond every day for my child and every child that attends.
Since starting they have helped with every aspect of my child's development and I couldn't
thank this nursery enough!
I would highly recommend to anyone to send their child here.

My two daughters have attended from 7 months old. Currently they are ages 4 and 2. They love the nursery - from the food, practitioners and outdoor space. We couldn’t be happier with their setting and recommend it to everyone

It's simple the staff just love the kids. From management all to way to every career in the class.
My children have so many activities to do during the day. Messy play, outdoor walks, outdoor play and creativity/ sensory play.
Staff and management are brilliant. Always organising events for parents
to join in from Mother’s Day events, Easter or coronation events.
Just a lovely nursery with amazing people who run it.

This is a lovely nursery, with great staff and good facilities.
The staff in my child’s room are superb and so friendly/approachable and helped him settle into the room when moving up from baby room.
Not a reflection of the staff or location, the only questionable/dissatisfaction is the increases
in costs which occurred twice in the same tax year and the fact the rates are widely different from site to site.

My child (18 months) has been at Kids Planet for 9 months. The reaction when we arrive at nursery says enough about the experience they have there. They can not wait to go in and see their key workers and other children.
The nursery itself is clean, safe and the rooms are bright and appealing for
young children.
The menus provided (breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas) help to introduce a range of foods to my child’s diet on top of what we do at home and eating with other children of the same age has helped develop my child’s table skills.
The nursery team are excellent at keeping in contact with parents and providing updates on the app.
I am extremely happy with my child’s enthusiasm to go to Kids Planet and as long as that continues I am more than happy with the care provided by the nursery.

Outstanding level of care provided by staff who go the extra mile for each child. There is a fantastic outside space for the children to play and lots of different activities provided by staff to help children have fun and learn. My son attended from age 9 months to 3 years and I would recommend this
nursery to anyone. I can't thank the staff enough for all they have done for my boy.

My two boys have attended here since they were 23 months old and we cannot praise the Rainbow team enough. We visited several nurseries but Rainbow really stood out to us during our initial visit addressing the many questions we had. The team all greeted the boys through every room we visited and the
wonderful setting and the vast amount of toys/activities was impressive. During the induction visits the boys had completely washed away any worries we had, the staff are very knowledgeable and they are also very experienced in dealing with twins. The Rainbow team made sure we were updated throughout the visits and this has continued in the 2+ years the boys have been there via frequent updates on the online journal systems and an update verbally at pick up. The management and the nursery team have been a credit to the nursery during Covid-19. Our 2 boys are now confident, happy little boys looking forward to school and Rainbow has been a big part in getting them ready.

Having had to find a space for our first son aged 11 months very quickly (2 weeks) due to a change of childcare provision, the manager arranged a great tour the next working day. She explained everything thoroughly and was very reassuring about the move. Our first son settled extremely quickly and we
have never questioned the support given. As a first-time mum, his key worker was always so helpful and offered guidance exactly when I needed it, never overstepping the mark and always wanting the best for our son.
When our second son arrived early the nursery were there to step in with my first son. Whilst at the hospital throughout the week I was constantly updated with pictures of my son and assured that a routine was kept. They’ve also been extremely supportive in ensuring that son my son was ready for his baby brother.
I can’t recommend this nursery enough, both friendly and professional - I’m extremely confident knowing both sons will be developing in a fun and nurturing environment.

Our son has very happily attended Rainbow since he was 9 months old and is now in preschool there. Every single staff member that has been involved with his care has been professional, knowledgeable, kind and loving. They know our son inside out and look after him so well when he is there. We are also
very grateful for their tireless support due to our son's recent diagnosis of having additional needs, which Rainbow has immediately taken on board. We would recommend Rainbow to anyone, and cannot wait for our 4-month-old daughter to join her brother there soon.

Due to the pandemic, I was unsure about taking my son who is 15 months old to nursery but having met the early years Nursery Manager I was happy in making the decision for him to attend Rainbow Nursery.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful, one staff member, in particular, is really good with
him especially as he cries on the mornings when he goes in due to being at home with me all the time not meeting or mixing with anyone else or other children because of Covid-19 but I know he is really settled and the nursery has lots of outdoor space which is perfect for him as he loves the outdoors.

My daughter has been at Rainbows since she was 1 and is now in pre-school. Throughout all the rooms she has attended, all staff have been warm and friendly. They all put you at ease as soon as your child reaches that setting. My daughter has loved her time throughout Rainbows and continues to love pre-school.
Her development has been fantastic throughout her time at Rainbows, in all rooms. The staff have been fantastic through the COVID pandemic, keeping us well informed and allowing us to delay our daughter's return until we felt the time was right. The changes they have implemented have allowed us to feel confident in our daughter continuing to attend, even in these troubling times. On the various occasions where we have required emergency childcare cover for our other childcare options, Rainbows have done their absolute best to get our daughter in to help us. It has been greatly appreciated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rainbows!

My little boy absolutely loves it here. All of the staff are lovely, they’ve been so accommodating of his dietary requirements and our preferences with his naps. He settled so quickly and built a strong bond with the ladies in his room, putting his arms out to them when he gets there each morning. He
started at 10 months old and I was worried about leaving him but they are always happy for me to ring to check on him and there’s never been an issue.

Our 14-month-old daughter has been attending Rainbow for just over two months now and we couldn’t be happier.
Every member of staff we have interacted with has been friendly and professional and it’s clear they have a passion for what they do.
The outside space is amazing - the children spend lots
of time outside, rain or shine which was something really important to us when looking at childcare options.
The food looks excellent - a really varied menu and she seems to enjoy everything they give her.
The staff make really good use of the technology to ensure parents are kept up to date with not only the basics of their child’s care but also loads of photos and videos of what they get up to, showing their development along the way.
Above all else, our little girl absolutely loves going to nursery. She is safe, well-cared for and kept entertained all day long. She has a huge smile on her face when we drop her off - we couldn’t ask for more.

My little boy has been going to Rainbow since he was six months old and has recently moved into the Pre-School on site. I wouldn't change anything. Like all parents, I was nervous about leaving my little one initially but I had nothing to worry about. All the staff are kind and caring and support both
parents and children during all transition stages be that moving up a class or a new development sage such as potty training. My little boy has certainly thrived in the setting and certainly missed it when we were in lockdown and he was unable to attend for two months. Since going back he has moved into the Pre-School and thoroughly enjoys it. We are constantly kept up to date with his developments and what he has been doing during a day which makes a real difference when you try to have the "what have you done today" question - I can pinpoint specific things we know he has done and he then talks openly about his day.

My eldest attended Rainbow from just turning one and has only just left to start school, my daughter is 18 months and has also been at Rainbow since one. They both love Rainbow and so do we as parents. When I drop my children off I can see that they are happy and comfortable, not only with their key
workers (who are extremely attentive) but all the staff. Leaving your children for the first time can be very stressful but from the first time I walked into Rainbow I knew they would be fine, and they were. Their premises are perfect for children with loads of space both indoors and outdoors and easy for drop off/pick up. I would also like to add how impressed I have been with Rainbow since the start of the pandemic, they remained open for key worker children and have kept communication and professionalism to the highest standard throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rainbow to friends and family.

I have used Rainbow for the last 8 years just before my eldest turned 1, and his 2 younger brothers have followed in his footsteps. As a parent, Rainbow does the most important thing - they make my boys happy! The outdoor space which is amazing and I’ve never seen another nursery come close to what
Rainbow can offer. Throughout our family's experience, we have always felt comfortable with every single practitioner we have met and trust them with our children to help them develop, engage not only educationally but emotionally, helping my eldest's self-esteem. They have a common-sense approach, which is unique and fantastic, really understanding each child as an individual. The communication from the management is also excellent, particularly in these very difficult past few months. Always honest, down to earth, and timely. I’m not sure they could have handled the recent events any better, credit to each and every one of them! I couldn’t imagine my children anywhere else!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.109)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.109) out of 10 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is calculated as follows: ( (108 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.109 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kids Planet Barkston Ash is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 215 number of registered child places is 43. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 43 = 0.209
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lisa Watson

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2006

My name is Lisa Watson and I am the Nursery Manager here at Rainbow Nursery. My background has always been in Early Years, I went straight into college from leaving school to complete my Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years. After completing this I started my career working in a small day nursery.

I joined the Rainbow team in 2006, working as a nursery practitioner, after a couple of years I decided to go back into studying part time and completed my BA Hons Degree in Young Children’s Learning and Development and my Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). Since then I have been manager of the Baby Nursery, Deputy Manager of the nursery, and then took on the role of Nursery Manager in 2013.

As the manager at Rainbow Nursery my role alongside the managers of the Baby Nursery, Day Nursery, Preschool and Junior Club, is to ensure the smooth running of the nursery, ensuring our policies and procedures are implemented and the children receive the highest standard of care possible.

My vision for Rainbow Nursery is for it to be a home from home environment and an environment in which children can reach their full potential. Children learn best when they are comfortable. We encourage all of our practitioners to build strong bonds with the children, I also feel it is important that our management team do this as well. People often ask me how I remember every child’s name within the nursery….. this is because it is important to me that every child feels important and that they are treated as an individual.

I encourage open communication with parents/carers with both myself, the area managers and the practitioners. We love parents to engage with us in two way communication and use the industry leading Tapestry online learning journal to facilitate this. We don’t hold events such as ‘parents evenings’ at Rainbow as we will always make the time to talk to parents about their children at any time. Parent feedback is important to me, this is how we grow, how we know what we are doing right and how we know what we can improve on.
