All the staff are very friendly and helpful, one staff member, in particular, is really good with him especially as he cries on the mornings when he goes in due to being at home with me all the time not meeting or mixing with anyone else or other children because of Covid-19 but I know he is really settled and the nursery has lots of outdoor space which is perfect for him as he loves the outdoors.
From the day my son started it has been amazing they have kept me up to date with everything. The staff are amazing my son is not very good with communication and they have been able to understand him.
My daughter has been at Rainbows since she was 1 and is now in pre-school. Throughout all the rooms she has attended, all staff have been warm and friendly. They all put you at ease as soon as your child reaches that setting. My daughter has loved her time throughout Rainbows and continues to love pre-school. Her development has been fantastic throughout her time at Rainbows, in all rooms. The staff have been fantastic through the COVID pandemic, keeping us well informed and allowing us to delay our daughter's return until we felt the time was right. The changes they have implemented have allowed us to feel confident in our daughter continuing to attend, even in these troubling times. On the various occasions where we have required emergency childcare cover for our other childcare options, Rainbows have done their absolute best to get our daughter in to help us. It has been greatly appreciated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rainbows!
My little boy absolutely loves it here. All of the staff are lovely, they’ve been so accommodating of his dietary requirements and our preferences with his naps. He settled so quickly and built a strong bond with the ladies in his room, putting his arms out to them when he gets there each morning. He started at 10 months old and I was worried about leaving him but they are always happy for me to ring to check on him and there’s never been an issue.
Every member of staff we have interacted with has been friendly and professional and it’s clear they have a passion for what they do.
The outside space is amazing - the children spend lots of time outside, rain or shine which was something really important to us when looking at childcare options.
The food looks excellent - a really varied menu and she seems to enjoy everything they give her.
The staff make really good use of the technology to ensure parents are kept up to date with not only the basics of their child’s care but also loads of photos and videos of what they get up to, showing their development along the way.
Above all else, our little girl absolutely loves going to nursery. She is safe, well-cared for and kept entertained all day long. She has a huge smile on her face when we drop her off - we couldn’t ask for more.
My little boy has been going to Rainbow since he was six months old and has recently moved into the Pre-School on site. I wouldn't change anything. Like all parents, I was nervous about leaving my little one initially but I had nothing to worry about. All the staff are kind and caring and support both parents and children during all transition stages be that moving up a class or a new development sage such as potty training. My little boy has certainly thrived in the setting and certainly missed it when we were in lockdown and he was unable to attend for two months. Since going back he has moved into the Pre-School and thoroughly enjoys it. We are constantly kept up to date with his developments and what he has been doing during a day which makes a real difference when you try to have the "what have you done today" question - I can pinpoint specific things we know he has done and he then talks openly about his day.
My eldest attended Rainbow from just turning one and has only just left to start school, my daughter is 18 months and has also been at Rainbow since one. They both love Rainbow and so do we as parents. When I drop my children off I can see that they are happy and comfortable, not only with their key workers (who are extremely attentive) but all the staff. Leaving your children for the first time can be very stressful but from the first time I walked into Rainbow I knew they would be fine, and they were. Their premises are perfect for children with loads of space both indoors and outdoors and easy for drop off/pick up. I would also like to add how impressed I have been with Rainbow since the start of the pandemic, they remained open for key worker children and have kept communication and professionalism to the highest standard throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rainbow to friends and family.
I have used Rainbow for the last 8 years just before my eldest turned 1, and his 2 younger brothers have followed in his footsteps. As a parent, Rainbow does the most important thing - they make my boys happy! The outdoor space which is amazing and I’ve never seen another nursery come close to what Rainbow can offer. Throughout our family's experience, we have always felt comfortable with every single practitioner we have met and trust them with our children to help them develop, engage not only educationally but emotionally, helping my eldest's self-esteem. They have a common-sense approach, which is unique and fantastic, really understanding each child as an individual. The communication from the management is also excellent, particularly in these very difficult past few months. Always honest, down to earth, and timely. I’m not sure they could have handled the recent events any better, credit to each and every one of them! I couldn’t imagine my children anywhere else!
Rainbow is an excellent nursery with great outdoor space and resources.
Staff take a lot of time to get to know the children and plan interesting, appropriate activities to encourage their development.
The nursery is very clean and well organised, serves good food, and the staff are approachable.
During Covid, they have sensible precautions in place and have worked really hard to keep the nursery as 'normal' as possible within this.
Their communication and flexibility around this time have been extremely helpful to parents.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rainbow to other parents.
My daughter has been at Rainbows since she was a year old and is now leaving to go to a big school. My son is currently at Rainbows, and he is 2-years-old. We love it there. The kids have the best time, and the care given is amazing. They bend over backwards to accommodate my son's extensive dietary requirements. I have no issue recommending Rainbows to anyone. Going to work feels a lot easier knowing how well they are looked after.
From day one, they have been so friendly, and the communication has been amazing, reassuring on those nervous first few days. They soon get to know your child and will help with anything, from potty training, allergies, welcoming a new sibling to helping them get ready for school.
During the lockdown, the nursery has done everything they can do to help the key workers’ children be safe. Procedures and communication have been excellent.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rainbow and their lovely practitioners.
We have two children who attend Rainbow, the oldest starting in 2015. They have both moved up through the different areas and our oldest continues to go, using the before and after school club and the holiday club. Through the years, we have had contact with many different practitioners and have always felt welcomed and confident that our child(ren) would be safe, nurtured and generally well looked after. I would already have recommended this nursery to anyone at the beginning of this year, but seeing how they have dealt with one of the most stressful and worrying times possible - I am even more impressed. They have continued to put the wellbeing of the children who attend first and gone above and beyond the recommendations to keep everyone safe.
Both my boys have attended Rainbow's since they were one and have loved every second! The key workers are amazing and genuinely care for the children, the facilities are second to none with open space, playground, fields and even a chicken. The children do a wide range of activities every day tailored to their developmental needs. The food is nutritious and wide-ranging so my boys have a great attitude to trying new things. I couldn’t have asked for more from a nursery. Highly recommend.
I have a five-year-old and a two-year-old who have both been attending Rainbow since they were a one-year-old. They love it and have both thrived there. The staff really care and have worked so hard throughout this whole lockdown situation to keep everyone safe. The large grounds are lovely and the kids get to spend lots of time outside. We gets lots of communication through emails and on tapestry to keep us informed.
Our eldest child went to Rainbow and we had absolutely no hesitation sending our second child there as well. We have always found the staff and management to be very diligent and genuinely care about the children, and are always friendly and approachable. The facilities are very good with ample outdoor space, including large playing fields. They have always been flexible if we've needed to book extra time at short notice.
My 20-month-old son started with Rainbows three weeks before the Covid-19 Pandemic. We worried about him settling back in after such little time there and such a big break, but we didn’t need to - within three days he went from shying away to running in happily. The staff are fantastic, very smiley and welcoming. The nursery is in an amazing location with such beautiful surroundings. Communication is strong between parent/staff, I absolutely love the app updates at the end of each day. My son has developed in so many areas in such a short time and is always excited to go see his friends in the Blue room. It makes such a huge difference to parents working day, knowing their child is happy. I couldn’t be happier with the care my son receives.
My two children have been attending Rainbow for a combined total of 11-years. I can say without hesitation that it is and always has been a first-class private nursery school. Every aspect of Rainbow is excellent. The management is exceptionally well organised (and the owners are both lovely!). The staff are incredibly caring. The setting is beautiful - there are so many outside spaces for the children to enjoy. Even the food is impressive - I have often been jealous of what my kids have had for lunch at Rainbow! It obviously isn't the cheapest place around, but then again I wouldn't want to cut corners when it comes to my children's welfare, and with Rainbow, I know that they are in the very best place that they can be, so in my view, it is money well spent. They get a big thumbs up from me.
Whilst the older of the two is very much in school, we have used the flexible day services provided by the nursery. Our youngest is in her final year, having been with the nursery from being a baby.
Our experience of Rainbows is very much a positive one, and the well-rounded but quite different children we have are testimony to the care, support and development the Rainbows staff have provided. Both our children have also benefitted from intimate relationships forged with key workers which we believe has enhanced their experience.
The team at Rainbows are receptive to feedback to ensure the highest standards are maintained and have made a number of changes over the time our children have attended to meet the requirements of regulators and wishes of parents.
As parents, we always wanted a place where we could be confident in the safety and support our children receive whilst we work. Rainbows is that place - a very special place.
We have been sending our Son to Rainbows for over 2-years now, and I could not be happier. The staff made him feel safe and happy, which meant we could feel confident he was getting the care he needed whilst we went off to work. The facilities are amazing, and there is never a dull day! Transitions to different rooms within the setting have been easy as the staff prepare the children really well and know how to create a calm and welcoming environment. The staff are always happy to chat through any concerns, and it's easy to get hold of people in the office to discuss anything. My son thrives at Rainbows and even asks to go there on the weekend! Throughout the Covid pandemic, they have been really communicative and put our minds and ease that they have been doing everything in their power to keep the children and staff safe. I would highly recommend Rainbows nursery.
I cannot praise the staff enough for their thorough communication during the strange year they have found themselves in. This is however always the case. The communication book and use of the app; means I always know what my son has done during a session at Rainbow Nursery, which is really important to me. On top of this, the use of early learning goals means I can see how the activities he does impact on his development, which again I love! Besides all this, the staff are absolutely lovely. So friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to make sure every child is happy and feels safe. We visited Rainbow back in autumn 2019, planning for my son to start when he turned two years old. Within seconds of putting him down, he was happy and secure enough to investigate and engage with the other babies and adults. I was so happy that he was so comfortable that we decided he should start when he turned one instead and haven't regretted it for a second.

Meet the Team (1)
My name is Leanne Batley, and I am the Nursery Manager at Kids Planet Barkston Ash. I have been part of the Kids Planet family since 2009, beginning my career at Kids Planet Austhorpe. Starting in the preschool room, I progressed through the nursery and was appointed Nursery Manager in 2014.
During my time in early years education, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience across all aspects of childcare and child development. I am passionate about creating nurturing, stimulating environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Supporting and developing my team is equally important to me, and I enjoy mentoring practitioners, helping them build their skills and progress in their careers.
I strongly believe in building positive relationships with children and their families, ensuring they feel supported throughout their nursery journey. It is a privilege to play a part in each child's development and to help prepare them for a confident transition to school.
